I like them too. Winter can be a little slow as far as activities, but winter is also slow when it comes to projects too. I don't do any building projects in the winter and of course the firewood is done. So we keep warm, move snow and do a few fun things in-between. Thanks as always for the support.

Really appreciate your videos. As a southern Appalachian resident who is watching the region get more and more built up (thanks Covid) , I am seriously considering relocating to the U.P. Not because I think it’ll be easy, but because I think it’ll be worth it. I absolutely love the snow and the cold and I’ve grown tired of deer hunting the rut and having it be 20° when I’m working and 55 and sunny when I’m planning to hunt lol. Thanks for all the effort in your videos and I think the narration is a great touch

I hope y’all had a great Christmas and New Year’s season. I do the same thing here in Colorado with my animal carcasses after I butcher them I leave them in my back corral area and the magpies, bald eagles, raccoons, fox, and sometimes coyotes eat off of them. Sometimes in the deep snow, that may be the only meal they get for a while. And I wouldn’t worry too much about some comments. There are some areas here in Colorado where you can drive down the road for 20 miles and see 10 or 15 deer or elk that have been hit laying on the roadside, feeding, badgers, and every other carnivore. I haven’t seen any of them die from eating it yet lol, besides that I like the videos with all your game camera stuff. I’m gonna put some up on my place up there in the spring when I go up there to work on it. Keep up the good work Dave.

@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors you’re very welcome. A couple of years ago I was elk hunting just north of Craig Colorado and I walked over this little hill and saw a half eaten elk carcass in a little wash, surrounded by some sage, brush and snow. So I walked up to check it out and out of this hole in the ground beside the elk carcass came this big old badger when I got about 15 feet away from it. I didn’t know it was there. He had been eating on that elk carcass for a while, and just decided to dig himself a hole there and den up until the elf is gone. He actually challenged me and I did not except. I just started talking to it and backed away to about 30 feet then he was comfortable. I wish I would’ve been doing KZread videos then lol it was a cool experience.

@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors also here in Colorado, and some of the other western states not only do a lot of guys field dress their animals in the woods, but they also field strip it. They’ll cut the hind quarters front, quarters and back strap and neck off. Some will even take the rib meat of animals but it’s not required. The carcass stays in the woods. I’m like you I like seeing the animals use it up.

I hunted the UP in the late 60s and early 70s with my hounds for bear. I am hearing that lot's of guys are selling out because the DNR put wolfs in to remove the deer and now don't deer for the hunters. What is your spin on this problem?

If you have a pack of wolves near where you are hunting it can absolutely ruin your hunting. It's hard to buy property, maybe a camp too, pay upkeep and taxes and take 2 weeks of your vacation only to see wolf tracks and no deer. We haven't had those problems, but I have friends who have.

A native southern Californian here. Your video is pretty incomprehensible to me. Looked at it because we’re thinking of moving to Michigan to be near my daughter and granddaughter. Is the snowmobile just a toy or is it used for transportation? Can’t see how you would carry the groceries on one of those. The wood stove looks nice but even if wood is just lying around free to gather, the amount of work to get it and chop it seems not worth it compared to a furnace. It must require huge amounts of wood to keep the house warm.

Snowmobiles are just for fun. Riding and ice fishing. But a 4-wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle can be needed at times. The firewood is a lot of work. You have to enjoy the process to some extent. But there is no substitute for a wood burning sauna.

The carcasses can cause human and animal health issues, environmental contamination and a food resource for unwanted scavenging animals. Hunters are also reminded that improper dumping of deer remains is illegal and persons involved in the activity can be cited criminally with littering.

Doug, you're not wrong but I will add to that. First, 1000s upon 1000s of deer die in the woods or along roads and are left for nature to take it's course. Scavengers and decay. Second, Michigan DNR seems more concerned with illegal dumping, not so much about removing dead deer from the woods and road sides so scavengers don't eat them. I read an article from down state Michigan this spring about roadkill deer missing there heads. The DNR said it was their biologists removing the heads for testing. So you have DNR biologists going to the trouble of removing heads from roadkill, but not bothering to remove the rest of the deer. Third, the deer carcass in this video is on my property. I did e-mail Michigan DNR Law enforcement and ask about this very practice. This was my question "If you have a deer carcass legally taken from a hunt or legally taken with a roadkill permit, can you legally place that carcass on your own property for attracting scavengers for viewing?" The answer was "Yes, you can leave a legally obtained deer carcass out anywhere on your own property as long as there is no local ordinance against it." I appreciate your concern and your comment. It's just important to me that the readers of these comments understand that this practice is totally legal as I did it in this video. Thanks for watching.
