    I absolutely love the UP and come up 3-4+ times per winter to snowmobile. Just got back from Ontanogan, actually. It’s a 8-12hr drive from where I live in Ohio depending on where we go, but every mile is worth it. Life changes once you cross that bridge, and I look forward to it every time I visit.

    Great video, really made me miss the U.P. all the more. From the Ishpeming, Negaunee area. Went smelt fish and yeah bite the darn head off. Ice fishing on Lake Superior, deer hunting did that as well. Snow days meant you were completely snowed in. And knew your job didn't have an option for you to stay home. So you dug out hoping the snowplows were clearing the roads. But if not you just put on a smile and strap on your cross country ski and start off. Worked at the Negaunee Animal Shelter for years. Thanks again for sharing your video.

    Create video. We are getting a little concerned down here in the southern lower of Michigan. Not enough ice to fish... First winter I have witnessed this in my 58 years. We grew up with a father that was a dark house spear man, and US Farm people fished in the winter to offset slow times. The weather patterns have changed an awful lot... Not sure what the future is going to be down here and it may require us to travel further north to do the things that we traditionally have been doing for over a hundred fifty years in this state. Anyway great video! Yep I'm subscribed :-)

    Man I miss that place! We used to drive up with sleds in tow and spend 10 days just riding. It’s so incredible up there. I love how in the winter there are bars/restaurants that can only be reached by snowmobile.

    Moved up here 4 years ago for school, convinced my fiancé to move up and this will be his 2nd full winter. Now we’re staying, graduating next year to be an industrial forester ideally in L’anse or with the DNR. Once that’s done maybe we can afford some land and a home, seems all the richer people want second homes up here though- prices are getting expensive.

Been to the U.P. many times riding the sleds but have not fished or been there when the temp is above 25. Live in Northern Wisconsin about 35-40 mins from Iron River. I dont think anybody would ever hear from me again if i was allowed to spend time there when its warm ish. Love what youre doing. Gonna subscribe and catch up on the channel. Taker easy dare eh.

    Well, I've been at it for over 4 years now and I feel like I could write a book on the subject ( I'm not saying it would be a good book!). I use Sony Movie Maker editing software. New channels can be slow at first, but if your content is good, viewers will find it eventually. Put the time in to film it right, edit it right and put the time and thought into your thumbnail. I break these rules myself, but these things are important. I've always tried to make videos I would want to watch and stay away from giving the viewers excuses of why you haven't uploaded, or how your camera was off or your lighting was bad. When your new, nobody cares. Good content, good thumbnail and keep at it, KPO.

    I was fortunate to retire early. My wife and I bought an old miner's house near Bessemer in the western U.P. and spent five great winters skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and making friends. We were from southern Wisconsin but no one held that against us. Yoopers even welcome Chicagoans! We recently moved to the mountains of North Carolina to be near kids and grandkids but sorely miss the U.P. It is America's best kept secret.

    Marquette/Alger county areas. When I was a kid my dad and I would rent these cabins from the old Timbers bar (burnt down now I heard) and fish Huron bay in the fall for lakers and salmon. I drank a lot of Cokes and ate a lot of Slim Jims in that bar. I did catch a 17 lb chinook one year. KPO

    Hello, what is the size of the cabin and how many cords of wood did you burn?

  • @KnettersPracticalOutdoors

    @KnettersPracticalOutdoors

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's very odd sized. Newest addition is 16 X 20 (living room area), older part is 9 X 20 (kitchen and bunks). As far as wood use, we only spend 15 to 20 days per year when we need a wood stove. We also burn wood in the sauna, which is every time we spend the night, even in warm weather. We don't really keep track of wood use. When the wood shed looks a little low we cut more, but I would say less than 2 face cords per year. Thanks for watching, KPO.
