One summer several of us fished the Willow Flowage in upper Wisconsin. Rain had been behind that spring. So lakes had dwindled down to interconnected rivers. We could literally wade our way in the water for miles catching everything that would eat a number 2 Mepps inline spinner. Otters would swim by not real happy about us being there. Eagles and hawks had nests in the trees. It was truly paradise.

From the Sault. I miss the great outdoors in the UP. So many hidden gem lakes and streams to fish. I got a lot of fishing stories from the eastern UP. The St. Marys alone holds up around 80 species of aquatic life. I caught some trophy steelhead, rainbows, walleye and smallmouth bass along its shores. The trout streams are magical. But there is nothing like hiking through the woods to a remote lake. God, I miss that.

There are too many fisherman NOW up here. I'm a local and bring my fishing kayak to tons of lakes around Alger and Schoolcraft counties early in the mornings only to see like 3-5 bass boats from out of town EVERYWHERE making it almost impossible to fish. They all circle the lakes, apart from each other, leaving you nowhere to go. Same with hunting now.
Nice, the UP is special- I was born there and hopefully will be buying some land up there soon so I can return for good. I dumped my bass boat years ago and traded up for a couple of pedal kayaks. Not a single regret and even a few friends were so impressed they bought em too. I fish like you do- not trying to impress anyone with my stuff, just enjoying nature and those peaceful spots that are still available out there.

I can feel the mosquitoes, horse flies, deer flies, etc. but it looks pretty peaceful where you're at and I don't hear the buzzing, must be the time of year. I only cought and released one fish in the U P that was on a lure at the inlet of a lake created by a giant beaver dam. The line was broken off and wrapped around a branch. I could tell something was on it and pulled in a 28 to 30 inch pike that was really tired, I gather he was only alive from eating what came down the creek feeding the lake. I was backpacking Pictured rocks and had headed up a small creek when I ran across this lake in the middle of nowhere, good times.
Great Video!!

Some of the best fishing I've ever done was in the U.P. while stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB, south of Marquette. Especially for a Texas boy who only caught bass, catfish, and crappie. Throw a lure out or live bait, you didn't know what you were gonna catch.

Even though I am from Kingsford and an NMU grad (1997), I am not a big fish eater. Walleye is, however, the steak of freshwater fish. Filleted, battered in Cajun seasonings, and deep fried. I really only like to eat cod for saltwater fish. I like fish that does taste fishy. 🐟🐠🐡
