I've just been doing cardio and dumbbell lifting every day at home for the last 14 months or so, since I got my heart broken last summer. I'm a recovering opioid addict, and I just had five years clean, and I think that exercising has helped me stay clean. Seeing my own physical improvement is just a side effect, but it's pretty cool. I've been thinking about joining a gym.

The talk about aimlessness around the 39:00 mark really hit home. If I take a step back and look at my life, I easily fit that. I've started dieting and exercising in the last year and I've lost 87 lbs as of writing this. I have also noticed that I've gotten slightly weaker as I've been losing so much weight. I find myself watching Sam everyday and taking inspiration to still lose weight, but do it in a healthier way as to not lose too much muscle along the way. Thanks for the quality content and advice, Sam. I speak for many when I say that.

Similar here, in the past 12 months (almost to the day - 10 days shy, now) I've gone from 255 lbs mostly of fat, to 214 pounds this morning (208 like 2 weeks ago, started bulking about 2 weeks ago, lot of water weight and shit in the short term when switching to that), with a lot more muscle, and it was kind of tough to realize I didn't want/need to just lose weight but also gain/preserve muscle to get where I wanted to be. I started lifting in May and thinking about eating to actually gain weight in bulk/cut cycles now, way stronger than I was last December or in May, but also probably could've lost a ton more weight if I just stuck with that as my main focus for the whole 12 months. Definitely a system of tradeoffs and balance depending on what your goal is. Sometimes feels like 2 steps forward, 1 step back, but you'll get there in the long run.

  • @Stuff_CS

@@misterlich2826 Last January I was 312, and this morning I was 225. I want to hit the “100 lbs lost” mark as a personal goal before I start a regimen. Right now I’m just doing home exercise. (Just stuff you can do with your body weight and some dumbbells) and that combined with a high protein diet has helped me reclaim some of that muscle, while still staying in a calorie deficit. I think I will eventually try to cut to 180-185, then start the bulk. Good luck with yours.

It makes the diet super important when you dont workout as hard. But i feel like he knows some of us dont go as hard as he does. So he explains it in a way that helps everyone. He more or less says "if you're going to eat ice cream, donuts, and drink chocolate milk. Make sure you put the work in.
