Winter Adventure in an Off Grid Treehouse
This week we head out onto the wilds of Dartmoor. It feels like walking into a ghost story. We explore spooky churches, forests and waterfalls from our base for the weekend m, an off grid tree house. We even decide to try and get back into cold water swimming with a dip in a very chilly quarry.
I hope you enjoy joining us for a weekend away to the west of Devon.

Good day, Iz and Tom Great to see your weekend trekking adventures --- always good to take time and see your local or near-regional attractions as well. Very mild winter here in Minnesota USA --- but last year was a heavy snow year. Not so this year ---- every 3 years you get to average things out !!!!😀👍

Not for me im afraid, i enjoy sea swimming but dont think tocker would stand the shock 😂 Keep loving life the pair of you ❤
What a fab trip. That swim looked awesome and reminds me of our trips to the gorgeous little island of Easdale in Argyll, Scotland where we go swimming in the old slate quarry pools. Easdale is really easy to get to (a 5 mins ferry ride) and is very much recommended.

Foggin Tor is the training ground of the Royal Marines, I’ve spent loads of time as a young recruit practicing water crossing there in winter aswell as scaling/absailing the cliffs lovely place but always puts fear into the hearts of recruits!
Hi. Thanks.
👍merci 😊
I understand that there are plans to promote the expansion of Wistmans Wood and well done for not harming the delicate moss and lichen. It’s a very special and ancient site.
When I saw a girl in a costume with back to the camera, I just presumed it’s Clickbait and didn’t watch it just realised it was you two so I’ve just watched it a bit late that water must’ve been cold. Well done. Keep them coming❤
Re. Your plan to live off grid on some land. We recently sold a 2 acre plot in Somerset to a couple who live on it off grid. It came with a really large wooden cabin. There is a process to getting planning. So they got a 2 acre plot with a cabin that cost £15k to build (12 years ago) with planning (just for them) for £60k. If you ever want to chat and find out more then let me know.
When in Wales, visit Rhandirmwyn and do a walk up the Doethie Valley or circuit taking in Llyn Brianne dam. Junction pool and river Towey at back of RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas nature reserve well worth a swim. Easily accesses from dead end road over bridge. Great area to visit and live.

A special place. Plymouth has a feel to it also, the town and coast. I would suggest you continue west and discover more. Ghosts exist, do not be afraid, they can't hurt you, they can only try to play with your mind, be above that and they will move on and never trouble you again. You're in Devon ?!?! As two proud Cornish how did you agree to that??!!! 😂 The treehouse looked lovely and cosy AND off grid! I hope when you do get a bit of land you end up with a set-up like that! That ancient woodland was so beautiful! We saw loads of lichen (but a different type) on trees in Scotland last week (I highly recommend you visit the Ardnamurchan peninsula & Kilchoan area, to the southwest of Glenfinnan)

I know outrageous right? Haha. Although I am blaming my cold on a Devon allergy. Yeah gotta admit Devon was pretty cool, LOVED the woods, such amazing lichen. Will have to get upto Ardnamurchan, want to spend quite a bit of time in Scotland over autumn to try and max out on mushrooms!
We got married in that church!

It's up there on my list of stunning hikes to complete, But if you want a more cost effective trip combined with La bamba then head back to Norway As there's some stunning thru hikes to have there, I Hardangervidda national park, and Rondane, and a few other national parks within south west and north west of Bergen, and do many more day hikes for you to explore as you know🏕️🗻 And without having to waste traveling any much further North than Alesund, or back back to Lofoten I could spend the duration of the 3 months, just in this area by van and taking thru hikes!
Tom, you have mentioned Forestry as your university studies / major. Are you hoping to work in the field or related / natural resources after a bit ?.... or right now, life and travels enjoyable with the energy of youth !!!

@@LostInTransit Best thing you can do then is find a derelict site as it is easier to replace a derelict or demolished structure because you can argue you are not changing the use of the land. I would suggest looking for an agricultural site such as an old farm or other similar site that has had or still has structures already on it that are in poor condition or recently demolished / collapsed. A tiny home doesn't have to be mobile, something like a container home (you can build a shell around the outside to "disguise" it) would be suitable as you won't need foundations like a normal building & they can be prefabricated off site for a fast install.

At your age, Ireland would be a good choice. You could work towards citizenship and eventually get an EU passport. Or a bit of land in Europe and do the Schenghan shuffle for a few years, you could always return to UK every three months or so and pick up seasonal work if you need to top up your living expenses. Without savings it is going to be tough, whatever way you do it. You channel is getting a good following, but it will only pay as long as you are creating content, you need other streams of income I am sure you know that.

Its such a shame that a young couple like yourselves is so priced out of the housing market. We wonder why our country's economy is doing so badly, yet weve given our youngsters a horrid start to adult life with huge student debt, low wages, low wage growth and stupidly high housing prices.
