Winston Blackmore & polygamy: The Bishop of Bountiful B.C. - The Fifth Estate

From 2003 Fifth Estate host Hana Gartner with a rare glimpse inside the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and an exclusive interview with one of its most prominent citizens Winston Blackmore.
Over the years there have been occasional news reports about a mysterious and secretive religious community in Bountiful, B.C. The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - no relation to the mainstream Mormons believe that not only does God condone polygamy, but the Canadian Charter of Rights does, too.

This is just another form of avoidance and gaslighting that is not only employed by the FLDS, but also by the leadership of the mainstream Mormon Church. Willie Neely Girls from Bountiful were, and probably still are, being taken to Utah to marry men there in order to provide a larger gene pool. The question might also be put: what is an 'adult'? Nowhere is that defined except by age. And what is 'consent'? These women are brainwashed and oppressed. To my mind, they are not exercising free will and could be considered to be suffering from a mental defect because they lack the capacity to think for themselves.

@@ProgressiveConservative There are so, so many answers to the question "what is heaven". You may get as many answers as there are people. If you want a tangible, earthly place to start in answering such a question, I recommend you start tp research NDEs. They have been quite well documented for a long time and are only gaining in popularity. What conclusions you come to, if any, are your own, but it is indeed a fascinating diving board off into the deep. To answer your question the best I can is, yes, heaven is living forever in pure happiness, but these people don't know what brings that pure happiness. It is not material things or self-aggrandizement. It is not taking the place of God.

It wasn't touched on in this documentary but anal sex under the age of 16 is still illegal. 16 year olds don't have an age cap for sex and that is kind of messed up. So a 16 year old can have sex with a 40 or 50 year old and it's not statutory rape.

Its not like there is no old women, its that there is no older women available for marriage. This is just a vicious lie these men are telling themselves to justify marrying a young wife: "It not like I want to have a young wife, its just that only young wives are available, but why is it that? Can it be because we don't give any girl the time to grow up and decided who to marry and when? Can it be because these girl don't really have any power in whether they can turn down a marriage? Can it be because as soon as a girl is 14 we are already looking at her like a cow in heat and want to get her "serviced" as soon as possible so there's no way any girl can make it pass 16, 17, 18 without already being married off? Who knows. All I know is, there are only young girls left there wasn't already married off, so its not me being a sick pedophile. "

You are lost and confused Kaitlin Gillespie. Younger women needs to be homeschooled and when they are/get mature, moral and modest enough then they are ready to get married. Younger women needs to learn from older Believing and Christian women about submission, obedience, love, kindness and humbleness. What about taking away rights and freedoms from Christian and Believing men? It is right to remove and take away freedom of religion just because people hate a certain practice inside that religion or ''religion''? Why being so hateful? You know most, or every, country have laws to be kept, so why do you think countries have laws? To limit people's choices? To make sure that if they break the law that they will get punished for their crime? It completely takes away freedom of religion if you make a law against Christian Polygyny. You should not have a problem with 12-15 years old women to get married with a Christian and a Believing man. Women needs to submit, obey and humble themselves. Feminism is causing much damage in this world. Patriarchy needs to be practiced in this world, i.e. men in leadership inside their family and in the government. Women in government makes it messy. Women should not have authority over men. Younger women needs to be taught and told that they are created for working inside of their on household, i.e. to be keepers at home.

You require somewhere around 10,000 unrelated breeding adults (minimum) to have a viable reproductive group (to repopulate the Earth, for example).

At 49 seconds in the narrator states the FLDS church is "no relation to the LDS church." This is patently untrue. The FLDS and other polygamous Latter Day Saints groups were born when the LDS church bowed to political pressure from Washington and banned polygamy. A serious case can be made for the claim that these groups are the true followers of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Their churches bear far more resemblance to the early LDS church than the modern LDS does.

As a "mormon" myself, I can verify that polygamy was indeed part of our doctrine in the second part of the 1800's. However, these people have twisted that belief into a deep dark unrecognizable cult. They pick out bits and pieces of our mainstream teaching and inject sick ideas that pollute and justify abuse of women and children. My Great Grandfather had two wives and they were both well educated and functioned well as a family. I do not say I would like to live it today, but what the mormons taught and these people indoctrinate are NOT the same thing. Theirs is a counterfeit image, a false version. They are sick in the head. God deliver those women and children and open the eyes of those men to the tears of their families.

Fifth Estate dropped the ball, too and chose to focus on the polygamy and ignoring the sexual abuse of children. Child molestation is the problem not polygamy. And the Old Testament of the Bible did NOT condone polygamy. Jesus explained that it was not what Moses taught the Israelites; and that God meant for a man to have one wife.

Those girls were me and my sister's and one of Winstons other young wives. The youngest sister there was not even married. Plus, some were married to Winston, and some were married to his brother. I'm married to his brother. Ya unfortunately we never graduated high school because our parents didn't make us. We could have if we had wanted to. I was just lazy and hated school, plus I felt uncomfortable because I didn't feel well liked or smart enough. I eventually made myself get my GED about 20 years later. Edjucation is important. Becoming independent is important.

The fact that the authorities and neighbors turn the other way as girls are assaulted and controlled just goes to show how little society as a whole values women.

Here from tiktok As a Christian, it’s sad to see how a person can manipulate and change the truth just to get away with what he wants to do. In the Bible it says the only way to know we know God and Jesus, is that we love people like Jesus loved us, and this man is clearly filled with hate...

Sara Rodriquez - as a Christian do extend that Christ-like love to the LGBTQ community? To those whose skin color differs from yours? To those not in your socioeconomic class? Just wondering because I read the national news in the US daily, and the Christians there are not representin’ very well🤷‍♀️

29:49 I have extreme concerns that this guy is equating race, and sexual orientation, with sexual misconduct, rape, oppression, and cultism - or at the very least equating race, and sexual orientation, with questions about the behavior of a secretive religion that is breaking laws. I don't have issues with consenting adults in relationships, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one to agree that marrying children, and enforcing a situation where women have no freedoms, is an issue.

“How to become a god.” I am not the most pious of people, but I know blasphemy when I hear it. They can go ahead and be blasphemous in our free society, but we shouldn’t allow them to marry 14- and 15-year old girls off to the cronies of these damned “prophets.”
