I lived in Japan when I was younger, it was such a spectacular country. One time while living in Japan we took a holiday to the Philippines. Nicest people on planet earth. I strongly recommend you take that trip to the Philippines and enjoy that country too.

The Philippines? That sounds like it would be an awesome trip! Hope you and Anna have fun there this October! Back on the poker front, I really wish other states would adopt the Texas or California cardroom model. Cardrooms would've been legalized a long time ago in NY had the state went with either model instead of going through the currently ongoing and overly long downstate casino expansion process--one which should've progressed further than it currently has. Also them Quads.

That pot where you made Quad 8"s I think the play was to lead out and bet like 25%-33% of the pot,he may have called or even got cute and raised but betting $500 in my mind was too much and forces him to fold!

Ben, thanks as always for great vlog. Regarding your comment at outro about game improvement, a humble suggestion to see if you are three and four bet bluffing enough preflop to keep proper balance. I know vlogs are small sample size, but as long time viewer of you vlog, it feels like you tend towards raising with value preflop and call w/middle to bottom of range. I don’t remember you as the type of player to push an AQoff, A5 suited or 65 suited. Very good players like the pros you mention will spot and exploit that preflop by putting in last bet. Post flop they exploit in range analysis by narrowing your range. I just don’t recall a lot of squeezing and bluffing with blockers in your analysis preflop. I’m sure it’s there but perhaps reviewing past hand history may help to give insight to see if you are unbalanced preflop. I bet these pros you described are beasts preflop with aggression. Thus, the suggestion to focus on preflop bluff play to counter their aggression.

This falls along the lines of what I was thinking. A lot of players don’t 3 bet enough in position pre flop. For instance, I was waiting for a 3 bet on the button with 87 suited. Whether Ben connects with the flop or not, a cbet will often times take it down. 3 bet raise sizes matter too. Basically, min 3 bet KK could have been a disaster when the other guy came along with 89 suited, and then the original raiser is priced in with any two cards. But Ben is a solid player and seems to have good results. So there’s a lot to be said about that.

There's always room for improvement though, work harder than your opponents and you will always come out on top. You should come down to Thunder valley for the series too! Great 5/10/20 games and 2/5 during the series.

Unrelated to poker, but being based out of Dayton OH, should be a great game between the Dayton Flyers & Nevada Wolfpack on Thursday afternoon! I am a Florida Gators fan so I have no idea who they will play until after the last First 4 game on Wednesday Night and I am likely the only person in Dayton rooting against UD & have enough confidence in the Wolfpack that in my bracket, I have them beating the Flyers.

This may not be a popular opinion but once you have reached a decent level of competence at poker a lot of the learning you do will have smaller and smaller returns on investment. The biggest edges are often getting in the best games and avoiding bad games if you can. I have sat in games with really good winning players who lack the awareness to realize they don't have huge edges vs other decent players. Once you include the rake that edge all but disappears. I know Bart Hanson has said this and its 100% true. Poker is a great part time gig and a not so great full time one. Having the ability to only play when the games are good is a huge edge.

Hi Ben. Always enjoy your vlog. Just had a comment and wanted to know your take. I live in the Bay Area and I go to Reno/Peppermill about 6 times a year. On my recent visit about 2 weeks ago, I played in the poker room on 2 consecutive days for about 10 plus hours. I observed and or had direct interaction with the new poker manager on more than a dozen occasions. I am a professional manager with over 40 employees at my job. I was shock at the manner and attitude of the manger toward the dealers and players. I thought he was not only unprofessional but his manner and language was uncivilized. If the previous manger was a 10 then the new manager is a 1. I couldn’t believe he was in a management role. My question, since you play there all the time. Was the manger having a bad couple of days or is he that bad?? Even some of the dealers had some snide comments after the interactions.

12:00 paying $20 every 1h 40 min instead of every 2h makes those 1/2 and 1/3 games unbeatable for 90% of the players. Even at every 2h it’s hard to beat the collection in those games. And with bomb pots taking so long to play out it makes it even worst.

It’s player dependent most of the time. In the hand when I had KK because of the player who raised before me and his unwillingness to give action.
