Wing Chun Kung Fu vs MMA - Ding Hao vs Xu Xiaodong & Yu Changhua vs Xiong Cheng Cheng

Спорт

Xu Xiaodong, the MMA fighter who destroyed that Tai Chi wind-bender wannabe Wei Lei, finally got another set of officially sanctioned fights together, this time against two self-proclaimed Wing Chun "masters." The fights are epic and telling. One is by Xiaodong against one of the "four great Wing Chun masters in China" Ding Hao 丁浩. The other fight (3:57) is Xiong Cheng Cheng 熊呈呈 (not Yi Long, though they kind of look alike) against Ip Man lineage Wing Chun Master Yu Changhua (余昌华). Changhua is also Ding Hao's coach or Shifu. Also, there was supposed to be no kicks, but there were kicks thrown. So if we looked at what happened, they basically followed Sanshou rules. These fights show what works and what doesn't work, as well as the need for weight classes. Hope you enjoy our commentary and research on the fighters. Please keep your comments coming, and please send us more clips.

    You keep saying "why are you trying to grapple him? stop trying to grapple him" The wing chun guy is being pulled down by a shirt grab and repeatedly punched and/or kneed. Thats not "grappling" what the hell are you talking about. He has had his posture broken and is being kept unbalanced. He is not trying to grapple.

    Yes I noticed that very clearly I also noticed how their clinch at times turned into hockey style fighting with grabbing each other's clothes however the mma guy still used boxing styled pivots in his punching and that's why the punches had power. Wing Chun guy isn't whack in my humble opinion he just isn't striking that hard as he should he has the character of a warrior never giving up and adapts very quickly. Give him proper Muay Thai training and do a rematch and he can really win

    Facts, if that wing Chun guy stood in the real wing Chun stance, he would have been beaten up more brutally, but he's smart, he didn't follow the real wing Chun, the real wing Chun says " Keep your feet on a squared up position " , which in a fight, is a ridiculously stupid thing to do

  • @JustDoIt12131

    @JustDoIt12131

    Жыл бұрын

    I'd bet that that position is based on the idea that you will never get grappled. I think it's clear that it's based on blocking your opponent's arms and counter-attack before he recovers his position. That's why they have the arms and hands in that standard position. And I don't think a master would tell you that you should keep your "squared position" if you get caught. In any case, that guy really didn't seem very experienced. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the problem was not what "martial art style" he was using.

Over the years we had a lot of guys at a lot of different gyms come in with black belts in win chun, karate and other more traditional martial arts and none of them ever stood a chance with a pro fighter let alone a legit amateur. Obviously there is always an exception to things in the world pretty much unanimously those guys got pieced up on the feet and completely destroyed when taken down. There were a few guys with taekwondo backgrounds that lit people up with some nice high kicks and turning sidekicks but in every case those guys were extremely athletic, like prime physical specimens that could move in ways that most people just cant, which makes more of a statement for raw athletic talent than it does for traditional martial arts like wing chun.

  • @yummychips_

    @yummychips_

    5 жыл бұрын

    not exactly. Chinese martial arts for the Chinese is like escalation of warfare. When ever Chinese martial arts was prominent it was because either people didn't fight or know how to fight. With Martial Arts being the weapon of choice when unarmed. MMA wasn't designed for fights. It was the natural evolution of fighting. What was most effective to win a confrontation when rules go out the window. Martial Arts held that crown, but we explored other possibilities when thinking about effectiveness in winning at all costs with no restrictions. I mean BJJ and Wrestling was pretty much borderline MMA already, but with rules. The problem with the Chinese and their respect for martial arts is that they refuse to see beyond that. They assume that MMA is a savage beast like art. MMA may not have any spirit, but it wasn't meant to be. It is a technique mindset. It transcends the ideology of spiritual connection, by putting the mind to the body. Not mind to the spirit. Old Chinese soldiers fought with MMA -ish style, they were hated for being soldiers obviously. But that is also why they don't see MMA as a art, but a weapon. When really Martial Arts itself was a weapon until somebody said it is spiritual. The peace loving martial arts wasn't even something ancient either. maybe 1k years, compared to the 5k years of history they have. In those 5k years back, soldiers practiced military martial arts, like the Romans and the Spartans, it included MMA-ish like fighting when unarmed. There is some evidence proving Martial Arts originated from Military Martial Practices.

    I pity Ding Hao in that I can relate with him. I spent years training in sport karate until recently when I joined an Mixed Martial Arts gym, because of the lockdowns had forced the local traditional martial arts schools to close, and forced them out of business. I have been training for about year learning how to grapple. Thinking that I was ready I attended my first true MMA class that involves both striking and grappling, and we all know what Mike Tyson said plans right? "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." I was almost knocked out. I mistakenly thought that my karate and the few times I trained in kick boxing, boxing, and taekwondo would be enough. My coach then forbidden from sparring for the rest of the class. In the grappling portion it was just as bad as I was submitted, knocked around, taken down and thrown about like a rag doll. It was very humbling. And what Jerry said is very true, Traditional Martial Artists need to innovate and change with the times, and you cannot learn from watching KZread videos all day. You can only learn from training consistently, eat right, get a good night's sleep, stay healthy and hygienic and hitting the mats.

    I have trained in Wing Tsun a few years back. I remember going to a class to try it out after having watched the Ip man movie. Lol. Having had a background in thaiboxing I was questioning wether or not Wing Tsun would really work for self defence, which is what it is made for. I think I stayed an hour after class just talking to one of the instructors. I actually did deem it to be functional and worth my time so I started training there. And to be fair the instructors did surprise me with the speed and strength of their punches. However, there are alot of techniques that would be extremely hard to pull off in reality. And I wonder how much of the striking techniques would be replaced with just regular brawling in an actual fight. Because it does feel very unnatural to punch like they do. I was still under the impression that Wing Tsun would be a good choice for self defense if you had a lot of time to practice... years. But after having watched this I don't know anymore. This is just embarrassing.

    I have a black belt in Shotokan and I always felt like it was never going to really work in a real street fight. Fortunately, I was also brought up on the streets so I know how to streetfight as well. The problem with all martial arts is it assumes that your opponent will behave with rules and specific behaviors but street fights don't have rules and your opponent is usually crazy.

    I think it was more that people probably got offended that it seemed a little bit like he used the video just to bash on Wing Chun in it's entirety... Such as calling Wing Chun "wack". Yes I agree that Wing Chun is not the most effective martial art form and I was somewhat disappointed myself as I've seen better Wing Chun from from my roommate... 😅😅😅 ... That being said though, what is currently considered the most effective martial art today is Krav Maga (forgive the spelling if I messed it up) which is a martial art designed for the Israeli defense force, in which it's goal is to inflict as much pain and damage to your opponent as quickly and efficiently as possible, then get away... Wing Chun was designed by a woman to defend herself from an abuser (that the origin story I know of anyways)... So that being said there are just certain situations that certain styles lack in... But do I believe something being designed for a different purpose then that of a different style warrants discrediting?... No, I don't believe so...

    @@AlexA-kb6mc actually it's listed at the very least in the top five of every list I've looked at... so I guess every resource I've looked at is clueless as well... Though it's doubtful... And another thought is that if the fighting styles are ineffective then why are those militaries using them, why aren't all militaries just training troops in MMA?... Certainly an individual is allowed to practice a unique fighting style of their choice, but it still stands that actual active militaries are being trained in these styles... The USA using a style known as MCMAP which is a combination of boxing, Judo and Ju Jitsu... It was adopted as a more versatile style over the specially made martial art called LINE, which was "only good for killing people" as one person put it... It was designed to meet these requirements- (a.) all techniques must not be vision dominant; techniques may be executed effectively in low-light conditions, or other impaired visibility conditions (i.e., smoke or gas) (b.) extreme mental and physical fatigue (c.) usable by the Marine / soldier while wearing full combat gear (d.) proper execution of the techniques must cause death to the opponent (e.) gender neutrality; must be usable by-and against-either gender It was found to be lacking versatility for situations where you didn't want to kill someone, so it was replaced or adapted into MCMAP... I'm no martial arts expert by any means and my statement on Krav maga being the most effective style was made based on the research material and ratings lists that I could find in various different sources... Which leads me to my previous statement about different martial arts and their origin purposes... Simply because a style is outdated doesn't mean it isn't effective for it's purposed situation...

  • @AlexA-kb6mc

    @@cavlactdiss7863 the usa does not use mcmap. mcmap is the M.arine C.orps M.artial A.rts P.rogram, its used by Marines only. Its main use to fight utilizing any weapon you have on you and neutralize any weapon your enemy might have. A lot of it is bjj and judo techniques. krav maga is very similar. "why dont they teach mma to the military" because in a war zone you're not going to drop your gun and headkick someone ... you're saying a lot of clueless shit tbh. Because of its nature it does not make it the most effective type of martial art as most people are not walking around with an m16 or a Kbar on them. It is effective in it's area of use. Also to shit all over your point if krav maga was the most effective martial art how come no fighter in professional MMA has ever used krav maga? If you take any of those marines or IDF soldiers and take away their weapons and tell them to fight any professional mixed martial artist they would get whooped bad.
