    Update on this match: Ma Baoguo took about 3 minutes to wake up from the KO. He was taken to the hospital. While getting an IV during the hospital stay, Ma explained he thought this match was supposed to be more like "point fighting" because that's how Traditional Chinese Martial Arts matches fought. Interesting assertion. When interviewed a year later about the match, Ma came up with this excuse: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKR5r8mDn9eWnso.html Ma also still insists he beat Peter Irving: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKOt27J8icSfgrw.html Also, to see Xu Xiaodong 2017 almost scuffle with Ma Baoguo, please go here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJWb2dSicaSeg7A.html Big thanks to Rob for helping commentate. I'm not a fan of their inferior arts AT ALL, but I have to think, that some thing was lost over multiple generations, because it had to be impossible to be this fake in ancient times. I'm talking about since the advent of guns. Surely, in common ancient dojos, when regular citizens were not allowed to have any type of weapons, there were masters who had to prove their abilities, even if those abilities (art) were inferior to other 'bare handed fight skills' in other places like Thailand.

  • @mrspeigle1

    @mrspeigle1

    @dan b i think its a case of degradation over time. The original master of the art knew what he was doing but his students slowly placed form over function eroding the syllabus. Also factor that likely opponents back then would be either uneducated untrained peasants with little fighting experience beyond a brawl or another martial arts stylist who is just as poorly pressure tested. Simply put we've advanced beyond those times.

    This really isn't funny. These guys should not be fighting if he can't handle himself in the ring on the street etc. This is my beef with a lot of these guys who claim to be masters of Tai Chi Chuan. If you can't use your skills in combat then you need to practice just for health and say so. Tai Chi Chuan is an excellent system but these guys really make the art look bad.

I never encountered any wrestlers that had that... some were just too fast.. or some didn't let you get position and some others just muscled you out.. but his root kept me from honestly getting under him or else I would have had no compunction about throwing the little fucker!... we are friends. .. but that's wasn't the first time we were together doing that... first time we met we had a closed door private session that left doors broken and walls with holes in them.. it wasn't pretty. He would have made an outstanding freestyle or greco wrestler." Plus also said "I don't always throw out all the wrestling accolades.. for one I hate having to make people believe what I earned 17 years ago.. and 2 no one ever believes what they can't see on video so why bother... I live in Fort lauderdale... yes. I would respond that people don't think that much... it wasn't a match. . Just a demo... a demo where just 4 throws were demonstrated... those shows needed force to be applicable. The force was quite real as well as the throws... I attempted them on CZQ and he did them on me. I was unable to use them bc of his low center and grounding and he was able to execute them... People talk too much... no one else is sacrificing themselves to show techniques like that.. or their results. Why would I want to shoot it it's a throwing demo.. that defeats the purpose. If it was a match that would be different. But most people want to break down someone's attempt to show something so they can put their two cents in on topics they no little about... the effort was real.. my semi concussion due to a couple of those throws were real.. and his ability was real... but the very nature of a demo has an element of prediscussed planning... or else its not a demo. What I can tell you is CZQ offered everyone there that day whatever they wanted... if the wanted to throw fists they could.. they could go full tilt if they wanted to.. and no one there did after seeing that. I have also been personally attacked by critics, which is a joke because I offer anyone that wants to challenge me to a no rules throw down the chance... just sign a waiver and comer to FL.. do date. .. NOBODY has taken me up on it. Out of 10,000 critics on the net, maybe 5 are worthy of talking and criticism... the ones that are usually don't do much criticism. They spend their time training and teaching. David Ross Nysanda is one of the wonderful exceptions to the rule... he has decades of experience in competition teaching and scholarship. People like he are few and far between. I'm just a practicioner that uses what I know for work... "

    i think this is where BJJ comes in, but you don't get to demonstrate how useless their striking is that way. It would be very easy to do a relatively gentle takedown like o goshi at half speed, followed by kuzure kesa gatame, go to side control, and get an americana, without doing any lasting damage to the guy. But in China, striking is considered much more valuable, and kickboxing is very popular there. So I think this would not have had the impact on the audience because no one wants to do BJJ.

    It's a great fighting art...If you actually know what it's meant for, which is clinch fighting and sweeps. The problem is that most people make it into something it isn't. They either think it's a crazy Kung Fu movie style of fighting or some sort of Yoga. It isn't. It's essentially Shuaijiao (Chinese standing wrestling/Chinese Judo) with clinch striking. But sadly, most people in China don't know this either.

    It's actually for everybody and can really help you with warm up and help recover from the harder training for fighting. It does have technique for fighting like grappling and striking but today's taichi on its own it wont be effective against mma. IMO An mma fighter could learn a lot from taichi, it would only make them better.

  • @smokeclouds8

    @smokeclouds8

    Taichi really improves your balance which is crucial for combat, it teaches you how to roll with punches and other strikes and it also has effective grappling. Yes, a lot of old people do it but they don't touch the strengthening or combat aspect of it and most practitioners in the public eye are shit. When you watch a younger kungfu master who competed in Sanda or something to that effect who actually uses taichi techniques properly with speed and power you'll be shocked how different it seems. Of course it won't stand up to MMA because mma is designed to take the best parts out of every martial art. Most traditional martial arts were developed isolated from the others and wont stand up to mma. In Kungfu you're encourage to cross train with other martial arts to learn as much as you can similar to mma, that's why you see so many kungfu styles.
