Wine Barrel hand Drill Restoration Pat.1800s | Rusted and Vintage

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Restoration of a rusted vintage Bung Hole drill/ boring tool. Se me restore and repair this tool that has been rusty and unused for a long time!
ABOUT THE TOOL
Bung borer is a tool that bores a tapered hole in a wooden barrel then you insert a cork, bung or tap like the one in this restoration video. The taper makes for a great seal. Once the hole is bored through the barrel the tap can be used to drain the liquid. The patent I seen was 1889. It made for an AWESOME RESTORATION!
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I first disassembled the tool which was only one the only three components-the main bore bit, handle, and one screw. After taking the tool apart I then washed it in soapy water. After that, I let the part dry before putting it into the blast cabinet.
I sandblasted the metal removing paint and rust.
To polish the bore we used a drill and sand paper to really cut down the metal for a shiny and finish.
I sharpened up the bit with a hand file.
For the handle I used a paint remover to remove old finish. After that I sanded the handle and applied linseed oil to it. It turned out great.
I powder coated the top part of the bore tool red after seeing most of these tool (that I found) were red. I also coated the bit and then sanded the edge for a nice two tone finish. Happy how it turned out.
I replace the old screw. It was worn out and time to be replaced.
For the tap, we removed old broke down finish with a paint remover and then sanded it down. We finished it with linseed oil and it turned out great.
At the end of the video we test the tool and demonstrate how the tap works.
Overall the restoration turned out great.
Please like and comment on the video and let me know what you think. That would be awesome and it would help me out!

Marvelous. I love restorations of old tools and machinery. In addition, each person gives her personal touch, and leaves her mark. All the best.

Good restoration.... but... ... may I suggest not using such loud sound effects that make the viewer turn the volume down.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I do try to lower the sounds of louder tools. Apologies! Have a great day!
