I don't know how much you read comments but I just wanted to say that you are one of the best content creators on this platform. I greatly admire and respect your dedication to providing people with as much information as possible. As someone who doesn't have much experience with firearms I find your style of presentation refreshing and invaluable, as you provide facts, evidence, and anecdotes while also tactfully allowing me to come to my own conclusions about what is best for me. Also while some people might make fun of your "Shatner-esque" pauses, to me your manner of speaking and your extensive vocabulary feel as though you're making an effort to always be impeccable in your word choices so as not to be misconstrued. Which also reinforces my belief that you're not being overly facetious just to win an argument or make a point. It's doubly impressive as I assume most of your presentations are unscripted. TL;DR Thank you sincerely for your service. Both for our country, and for our minds.

Thanks for the video. While I appreciate the velocity exercise I think the Silver Tips did exactly what I wanted to see. The distance I would expect to use a .22lr for personal defense to be useful is about 15 yards and probably closer--more like 3 to 10. As many have said more up close and personal. Also, I have seen a gel block comparison of .22lr defense ammo by "Buffalo's Outdoors" channel. In that comparison the wound track caused by the Silver Tip was very impressive, as it was also on the "Pat RMG" channel. Furthermore, one of the cardinal rules of defending yourself is know where else the round may end up beyond the intended target. What I took away from both your and the other reviewers exercises was the SilverTip velocity did take it somewhat less in distance/penetration but it segmented and did desirable damage in the "aggressor". So, I think its "intended use case" as I have described makes it at the top of my list for probably use. I might also point out that you confirmed its segmenting damage potential in your hand. It was good to see that all those brands in your exercise were also potentials. Again, I am sure we all very much appreciate your variety of educational and informational videos.

As a handloader, I know that one can reduce muzzle flash and blast by loading a type (generally "flash-suppressed") and quantity of powder which will be more completely consumed in a short barrel, and ensure expansion of the projectile by choosing one fragile or soft enough to upset at low velocities. Generally that is what manufacturers mean by "optimized for short barrels/handguns". As to velocity, the fastest round from a long barrel will be the fastest from a short one...

From the time I was a teenager in the 80,s I've always used Stingers for hunting any small game. Squirrels, rabbits.frogs, turtles, even quail and head shots on turkeys. Very accurate in my old Remington bolt action at the time. For plinking we just always bought the cheap boxes of thunderbolt at Wal-Mart for .50 cents a box. But there is a huge difference in the two. Love shooting 22lr. Now all my grandkids have 22lr,s and we still have a blast. I should have bought them single shots instead of Ruger 10/22 with 25 rnd mags. They can go through a bucket of bullets in a day.

If it goes bang, cycles a semi auto, and hits the intended target it is better than an empty magazine. While the numbers and results weren’t impressive, a loaded gun versus an empty gun during “shortages” can be enough difference to make a difference. 😁 I did try some of these awhile back. Unfortunately I can’t remember my results. I’m sure it wasn’t spectacular, but I don’t recall if there were any malfunctions. I suppose that’s enough excuse for another range trip. @Craig Robertson I’ve only seen a couple and that was over at Buffalo Outdoors IIRC. I believe Silver Tips and Yellow Jackets he tested were the only ones that had expansion in short barrels but Stingers otherwise did best. For me it’s Stingers all the way for hunting, but usually shoot them out of rifles or 6”+ pistol barrels. I did used to like the YJs also as they did better out of the 4” Ruger Mark II we had years ago. Bigger cavity in YJ seemed to open up when nothing else did on rabbits out of that short barrel. I also like anything with the truncated cone shape in .22 autos as they feed better than round nose in everything I have. Both loads are good in that regard in my experience.

In theory, lower air density would increase velocities especially at range but some even at the muzzle. Only problem is higher altitude usually also means lower temps and low ammo temps reduces velocity. Of course the differences are small enough that you can ignore them unless your a sniper trying to pull off a two mile shot.

Amazingly, it all went bang and made holes in the paper right where we were aiming. What I think is, there is a recipe for 22lr that is very hard to deviate from, because there are so many platforms to shoot from the manufacturers are very limited as to what will work as far as projectile weight, amount of power and it's burn rate to effectively cycle in auto loaders and also work in manual loaders. So basically we have relatively small variations in total energy across the board. What do you think?
