Update video of the Harbor freight Badland 2500 winch install. I go over how I went about wiring it up for power with the wireless remote.

Very nice install, I have always wondered about mounting directly to the backrack. This is the first vid I see it done in. I say this is a very effective way of doing it with out messing with fabricating all sorts of brackets and hardware. All of the pulling force is transferred to the backrack structure which in turn sits on the bed rails. These backracks are made of some serious steel and are bolted in to the stake hole pockets. As long as you are not trying to pull another truck or something crazy, this is absolutely perfect for getting small equipment up in to the bed. I would keep the truck ruining if possible when operating the winch to reduce prolonged load on the battery. If you ever do work on the truck you can change out your alternator to a high output alternator. It can handle the additional load put on it from things like winches and auxiliary lighting, etc. if you ever plan to install such equipment. This small winch is probably no big deal at all and the stock alternator and battery can handle running it no problem. I have seen people not only kill batteries but alternators trying to run too much equipment.
Getting ready to set up/install. Your video and your insights are very helpful. Thanx!
I like that setup 👍🏼
As long as you put rtv on it I agree it should last a long time. Nice neat shop 👍
Looking to due the same. I have a 500 pound hot water pressure washer I will be loading and unloading. Great vid straight to the point.i will be completely copying your setup
I installed a diamond plate tool box put both the winch and battery into it Purchased 2 mounting plates and one in the box the other under bed sandwich thru stainless through bolts into the bed Completely self contained I’d send ya pics but don’t know how lol
Ahhsome jab!
**Make sure you install the reciever box in an area the remote has direct line of site to it! The remote will not transmit to the box if it is behind any metal, so you cannot put the box under the hood of the engine or up under the body of the frame. I was originally going to install the box in the engine bay to keep it out of the elements, that wont work. It either has to be on the outside of the truck someplace like where I installed mine, or if you want to go thru the extra trouble, you can mount the reciever inside the cab behind the window, if you want to keep the box out of the elements. That is why I elected to mount it on the outside of the truck and apply silicone on the box for extra protections, so I did not have to enter my cab. Thanks to Redneckcomputergeek for that information to avoid having to rewire everything, the remote has a 20 to 25 foot range to the box. I forgot to mention this in the video, but it is very important to the function of this winch**
I thought you could use the car battery... that's awesome!!!!

Yes, that saved me a lot of unnecessary trouble. Thank you.
Get yourself a rubber winch stopper. They are less than $10 and will keep the hook from binding up

Good tip. Thanks.
It looks neat. My question is how to install one without removing the toolbox?

Reinforce the box inside with a sheet of steel that bends on each side so the box has strength from the front and both sides and than bolt the winch to the front of the box with the mounting hardware going thru the steel inside the box.
Any updates? Did anything bend yet? I have a headache rack, I was thinking to bolt angle iron the width of the bed to it to further strengthen it.

Yeah there was an update video. No I didn't have any issues and I pulled in a Craftsman gt5000 garden tractor and I watched it while I was pulling it in and it didn't budge. And that thing was a ran almost 600 pounds. I pulled in probably 15 machines so far oh, nothing has bowed or bent at all. It's holding strong. 👍
prety good brother i was looking for an idea like this to get my small boat up to the bed of the truck and not to blow my back, or look like charlie Chaplin try to get my boat up and walk to the back of the boat and realize that the front of the boat came down again , not fun , cool idea
OK got a question. How did you mount the unit itself on the back of the bed and body? Did you use reinforcement because that metal is not going to hold up will it

Yes. It held up fine. The back rack is reinforced. That’s why I put the back rack on the truck and mounted the winch to the back rack.
What size bolts did you use?
So I have a question .. if I have to mount this upside down … is it possible to still run the rope from the bottom of the drum !? Will this winch adjust for that via the clutch on the side ? Appreciate it

It will work, but you will need to mount a U bolt as a cable guide in front of it so the cable does not come off the spool and jam on either side of it, I've had it do that and it can be a real nightmare trying to get that cable back out of there.
Is the circuit breaker a 20 amp

I just checked, it doesn't mention what amperage it is. I made an update video on this winch, if your considering it, I wouldn't recommend this one. I had two already that were faulty. I would go for the higher up model or a name brand one if I could do it over. They need to be reliable, as I'm sure you know.

That bed linner is gonna wear right through that wire casing... Please put some durable casing at that point please...

How? The cable doesn't make contact with the bed liner.
