"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is a song written by songwriter Fred Rose. Originally performed by Roy Acuff, the song has been covered by many artists, including Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Russell, and Charley Pride. Most notably, the song was recorded by Willie Nelson as part of his 1975 album Red Headed Stranger. Both the song and album became iconic in country music history, and revived Nelson's success as a singer and recording artist.

Red Headed Stranger is the eighteenth studio album by American outlaw country singer Willie Nelson and released in 1975. After the wide success of his recordings with Atlantic Records, coupled with the negotiating skills of his manager, Neil Reshen, Nelson signed a contract with Columbia Records, a label that gave him total creative control over his works. The concept for the album was inspired by the "Tale of the Red Headed Stranger", a song that Nelson used to play as a disc jockey on his program in Fort Worth, Texas. After signing with Columbia, he decided to record the song, and arranged the details during his return to Austin, Texas from a trip to Colorado. It was recorded at low cost at Autumn Sound Studios in Garland, Texas. The songs featured sparse arrangements, largely limited to Nelson's guitar, piano and drums. Nelson presented the finished material to Columbia executives, who were dubious about releasing an album that they at first thought was a demo. However, Nelson had creative control, so no further production was added.
Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 29, 1933) is an American musician, actor, and activist. The critical success of the album Shotgun Willie (1973), combined with the critical and commercial success of Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978), made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music. He was one of the main figures of outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that developed in the late 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound. Nelson has acted in over 30 films, co-authored several books,

Even sadder is when you can remember WATCHING the midnight special. Having to stay awake until twelve, sneak in the living room, make sure the sound was down before you turned the (black and white) TV on so you could listen to "that hippy music". HA! Probably couldn't even do a show like that in today's "woke" America! More like a waking nightmare to this old fart.

And to think nobody wanted him. They missed out!! Look up his history. Nobody wanted his voice. I did! Others did. He helped raise my kids. I can't thank him though. Willie will never die.

I was stunned the first time his son Lukas sang this. He has the same tone and vibrato. They took turns singing on stage, almost impossible to tell them apart when you closed your eyes!!

@@jdenino6022 That I didn't know. Thanks for that tidbit of trivia that I can use in future conversation with others. I've admired Willie's music since I was a very young child. My favorite as a kid was the one with Ray Charles called Seven Spanish Angles. We lost Ray, and I'm afraid Willie won't be far off now. That's going to hit me rather hard unfortunately. I was saddened by some of the others we've lost but Willie is going to be the hardest. Of all the old timers, Willie's music reminds me most of my late father. We used to sit and listen to music when I was growing up
