    The decrease in pillion distance you mentioned is significant. I was aware of the smaller pillion seat in the 1300 but no one has mentioned the issue of peg distance. Great information!

    My favorite of all the bikes I have owned was the Honda CBR 954 rr. It had the dimensions and weight of a 600cc sport bike. Amazing thing. And it was comfortable for a sport bike, but that peg to seat was murder. Long gone now, but peg to seat height has been the most important factor in my buying or considering a new bike. I'm 65 now, so it's either feet forward cruisers or adv bikes for me.

    Yes, common story as we age isn't it? I enjoyed rides on my brothers Honda 750 Shadow out in California which had some nice forward controls. The engine was a bit of a damp squid but I didn't mind. That CBR954RR is tiny and its amazing how these things suited us at the time. Cheers 👍

    It is tighter for the pillion as my 5'4' wife (not fat) says to tight on 1300gs even on the 1250 TB TE I have passenger lowering pegs, need to keep the knee below the hip. Anyway I have FTE syndrome FAR TO EXPENSIVE, LOL...Great vlog as usual, Robert & Carolyn.

    I sat on the R1300GS and 1250GS back-to-back at Daytona Bike week this year and the 1300 is definitely more cramped with the standard seats of both bikes set in the low position front and rear. I asked another person who was there to sit on both before I told him my opinion and afterwards he said the same thing. Bummer.

    Can't see any yet but I believe they will be releasing adjustable pegs for it. If you can get another 20mm out of them that would be good. Without them I don't think I would last long on the bike.

    Good informative video, having-likewise- a hip that is seating position sensitive I have to pay attention to the various distances and angles though for me it is more the width across the pegs that dictates my comfort as wide pegs force my legs out in a more splayed angle and right into the worn point in the hip resulting in discomfort far sooner. Pre GS I tried the Triumph Tiger 1200 ( was on a 1st gen Explorer) but the wide final drive and peg width thereof just killed my hip in no time similar to what was happening on the Explorer. Given people are commenting on the new GS seat feeling narrower I'll be interested to see how it feels. Happy though with my 1250 so not in a great rush to see the new bike.

    That is interesting Stewart, I didn't think of that dimension, thanks for highlighting it. The new 2023 Tiger 1200 has got narrower on the front and the GS1300 is definitely narrower so may well suit. As a 2023GS owner I'd be hard pressed to justify a change just yet too 👀.

    59 with lightweight aftermarket Titanium knees, so seat to peg is hugely important. I had already been thinking along the lines that you highlighted. Use the adaptive ride height option to maximise the seat height available to me. I tried the Tramuntana with the 850 seat height and the Trophy with 870. I'm 5'9" with a thirty one inch leg. With boots on i was just about flatfooting the 850 seat height but it was obvious that the extra 20mm on the 870 was more comfortable from seat to peg. So I've already come to the conclusion that if I'm to take the plunge, then a triple black with the high seat and the adaptive height that would drop the riding height of 870 to a resting height of 840 would tick every box. Ive also just become aware that the pegs that come with the "enduro kit" has two height settings. Standard and low that would extend the leg spacing even further.

    Very nice, precise and extensive review of lengths and measurements. But you’re missing one key element of the equation I’m afraid. I am a tall rider and I was about to choose the high seat option with the adaptive suspension for obvious legroom reason, but when I tried the bike in its standard seat height, the windscreen in up position is just about sufficient to give you a good protection from the wind. When I sat in a very upright position, probably gaining 2CM of height, I could feel a huge difference in turbulence on my head and I was not sufficiently protected from the wind anymore. It means that the high seat will expose you in the same way to the elements. Any thoughts (and measurements 😉) on that matter ?

  • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff

    @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff

    Well spotted Jean! 😄 I'll take that extra leg room with the higher seat and get rid of the wind turbulence with one of the small screen extensions. They can be had for less that €20 on Ali Express and do a fantastic job of directing the air a little higher and over taller riders. They are so cheap to buy it is worth trying at least. The totally changed my last Triumph Tiger 1200 and my buddies XTZ1200 and his GSA. Just about to fit one on my PUIG Touring screen on my 1250GS too to test out. The PUIG screen is good (8/10) but will be better at speed with one of these fitted. The trick is to fit virtually parallel to the existing screen, it doesn't have to extend above much at all.

    Yer the GS is ok if you like riding a trampoline. Bruv. Do you reckon you can do a similar video. About which bike will be better for throwing the leg over and exercising the option. Also some comments on which one will be better if your solo and wanting to knock the top of it.

    Excellent commentary! If I may, some comments from a 6ft6in GSA1250 person (me!): This bike won't fit my wallet.. High seat pushes tall rider into turbulence Completely pathetic that BMW have zero adjustability in footpegs. They used to in 60s. The seats should curve up at the front to blend in with the tank alleviate nut fatigue. My pillion is lovely Kind regards Nick

    The 1300 is aimed at a younger audience - smaller, sportier, compact bike.... BMW have effectively given a v sign to older riders who need to stretch out a little more. Its one of the reasons I will keep the 1250 as its the perfect adv tourer for me. Plus the new bike is ugly and cheap looking, no matter how well it goes and how much "better" than the outgoing bikes..... I think the improvements are superfluous in real road riding but there you go..... 🙂. The general public will largely keep buying new bikes if the 'its better than ever' message is broadcast to them enough, but is it really and does it justify the huge cost which these are now ?

  • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff

    @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff

    Yes, the new bike is "always better" ;-) I like the physical presence of the 1250 which I also have and will keep that for now. I do like the 1300 for bar reach and ground reach with the auto lowering features but at my age the seat to peg dimensions cannot be any shorter than I currently have for all day riding. I'm not sure my pillion would be happy though, those rear pegs are very high compared to the 1250. Maybe they need those younger riders but will they get them at that price?

    😮@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff thanks, yes much the same here, I just hope the new Adv variant wont follow the same route as 1300 when it eventually lands. Having said that, I find the 1250 Adv absolutely brilliant so its unlikely I will be tempted anyway and the full on big rugged bike looks are part of the appeal for me. The next Adv will have to be spectacular for me to move and I dont think that kind of upwards leap is even possible anymore (?) If I had a single gripe it would be the sometimes clunky transmission but the rest of the machine overshadows that by a good margin
