Based in the Republic of Ireland and post videos for fun on various motorcycling topics. The content is ad hoc and only when I think I have something to say or pick up on some interesting detail. Some can very very bike specific and niche but if they are I'll warn you at the start and you can move on :-)

Terry Great video Sir! Heated grips are a must have on any bike. I think with all the addon's you are putting on the Daytona you are getting pretty close to converting it into a Tiger Sport 660! LOL! Ride SAFE and BE safe Sir! 👍👍
That thought had occurred to me ! 😂. Take it easy my friend.
I wonder if a heated seat would complete the package
Or a combo heated comfort seat 🤪.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff I'm going to customise my seat and I saw a selfie stick mounted to the pillion foot pegs on another channel that impressed me. Will probably customise the fairing too
A bit of the old Hawk tuah treatment 😂
Yup, agreed definitely Triumph Shift Assist Kit 😊
Loving the Daytona content, I bought mine a week ago in black. My guess would be that on the official Triumph site it's called either Shift Assist, or Quickshifter (without dash, and no space).
@@Szabinger Thanks. Yes, Triumph call it a shift assist on their configurator. 👍
The XR is the perfect bike to carve the mountain roads of the Picos, Pyrenees or Alps for a weeklong tour at 50 degree lean angles. The best competition comes from Ducati with the Multistrada family. If you don't have some hooligan in you, stick with the GS, which makes you more comfortably numb. The XR probably makes little sense in a crowded, dark, cold, foggy, wet and dismal place like Britain. Rent the XR when going to the continent. I come from the US and my band of lunatics does a moto tour in Europe ever year or two. We are about evenly split between BMW and Ducati for our rental preference. We've learned to pay particular attention to the newness of the tires before accepting a rental given that the XR's (default) tires are softer and sportier and the bike is ridden such. We've done both guided tours (Edelweiss) and our own (Hertz) with success. The 2024 XR appears to have some notable improvement, especially with the more traditional seat shape that allows you to hang off a bit when the spirit moves you. The +5 HP is always welcome even if minimal. The vibration never bothered me before, so improvements there probably won't be noticed. Relative to the GS, I prefer the XR's paniers and top box due to their lighter weight and sleeker design. I got grooves in my hands carrying the GS versions into the hotel when the XR wasn't available.
@@bernhtp Thanks for the detailed summary of your experiences with the XR, that makes perfect sense and good info for prospective buyers. Cheers fella 👍
Hi again. Ive just measured the rear sag. Im 88kg so apparently in line with bmw calcs. It makes a difference in either the High or Low setting, so ive measured both. And both sag measurements on the rear are oddly judged by BMW. Here's the numbers. In High setting - static sag is literally 0, it measures 170mm on the stand and 170 mm when off the stand. A bad start! With rider on, the High setting sag becomes 30mm, or 18%. That's very firm. Maybe it will read better in Low mode? In Low, static sag is 25mm or 15% so reasonable BUT with rider on the bike this becomes a wopping 85mm of sag. This is 50% rider sag, which incidentally is what the front sag is, too. So, woefully firm in High, which means very harsh: or woefully soft in Low. No amount of damping will improve these. I am surprised, nee disappointed. I am sure they wont help me fix this but i will be asking. Btw, front sag is unaltered by Low/High/Auto, and is circa 50% with rider, so not good unless there's some extra element for the telelever? Ps- it's the same readings in either Road or Dynamic mode. Basically, in setting options it's either far too firm/harsh or far too soft/spongy. So IMHO, this is all to do with incorrect adjustment Sag settings by BMW. Just used Auto - it seems that sag finished at about 35% on rear so that's actually ok. Maybe it's the predetermined low/high that's badly judged? I will be testing some more in dynamic, later. Front is still 50% of course.
Totally agree. I've just measured Front static sag on my similar bike. Fully extended it is indeed 158mm on front. Off stand, static sag measures 85-90mm, which means it has a static sag of 158 minus 85mm, so static is a huge 73mm. That's very nearly 50% of the entire travel of front suspension. That's clearly an error by BMW for this low chassis. If the standard height GS (210mm travel) had 73mm sag, it would be about 35%, so slightly soft but not too bad. However, I simply cannot understand why BMW thinks it should put the same weight spring on our Low chassis bikes when the static sag is so far wrong at 50%. I welcome a reply as somehow this needs attending to. Thanks
My CTX700 has screw type adjusters. It's the easiest of all. I'll never buy another shim under bucket design.
I am 85 i still ride i havr a 2007 street glide. Due to balance and weaknes in my legs (hold up bike when stopped. In traffic) i had a sidecar attached. This year 2024. I had to face the fact that my left leg and foot no longer had the strength strength or flexibility to be able to shift gears with my leg and foot so i had a" jockey shift" mounted. Its difficult for me to make the transition ftom foot shft hand clutch ive used since 1956. However, it is the only way i can continue.
Just going to say, I am going to block this channel, just because your using AI art.
No, I drew that and then painted it with water colours 😅
Terry I have become so used to the Triumph quick shifters on my Tiger's and my Speed Triple RR. The down side is when I ride my Thruxton R I continually forget to use the clutch for the first couple of shifts! It doesn't work well to put it bluntly! Great Video Sir! 👍👍 Ride SAFE and BE safe!
Certainly flies along that bike. Never had a quickshift on any bike but I can see the advantages. Thanks for your comments and oppinions. Cheers.
I amazed just how much oomph this 660 engine has in this configuration, never runs out of puff. Cheers!
I would order it
Yes 😁, gotta be done!
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff loving your channel, very informative and realistic approach
@@SGTMARSHALL1 thanking you ! 😁
Yes, but the fitting kit is on back order in the UK and across Europe and has been for months. My dealer has 4 on order and you cannot buy it online
My dealer couldn’t get it either and it was removed from the Triumph online configuration tool but it is now back. My dealer got this about 3 weeks back now.
ETA for fitting kit from my dealer here in the States is end of July. Ordered it this morning.
@@GripEngineering that’s a long lead time 😩. I must of been lucky? Hope it works out for you 🙏.
I still prefer the broad shouldered look of the RE 650 engine and don’t consider adjusting screw type valves to be any big deal.
What's dat in inches?
Just went from a KTM super duke to a 2024 S1000XR, my first granddad-bike. I thought… This bike, i mean OMG! I’m amazed at it’s capabilities, it’s sure-footedness, it’s power, it’s «flickability»… And it’s comfort! I can still be abit of a hooligan and be comfortable. Bravo BMW!
It is not the fly wheel. The fact that a bike like the GS has quick shifter is actually engineering miracle at its best. Here is why: the way the power transmits from the engine to the rear wheel, you see, quick shifting just stops the fuel injection for a split second and there are so many parts still in motion you can't get that smoothed out.
Spot on, I have owned the moto2 Daytona and I now own a 660, love it , have been on the 675 forum and seen all the wannabe racers slagging this version off, bit sad really.
Good videos, I have most of the available accessories, but am hacked off that the quickshifter fitting kit is still on factory back order with no due date, need it for my dodgy clutch wrist, accident injury from years ago. The quickshifter itself is available but is no use without the fitting kit….
I had a V-Strom 1000 and the time came when it was no longer fun. It was replaced with a Burgman 400 and a CB500F. Four years later and my knees were letting me know that chain oiling and adjustments were no longer OK. Now I have a Moto Guzzi V7. It's even easier to ride and less tiring than the awesome 500F, more comfortable and easier to get on and off. The super smooth throttle response, compact size , low CG and shaft drive make it perfect for this old guy.
My standard height 2022 R1250GS suspension is the same as you describe. In Enduro Pro, the lack of rebound damping is actually dangerous.
Mine is terrifying at anything faster than 40 mph.
Thank you for all these vids. Also great so I dont have to fumble my way through making videos too. Cheers!
You complain about the suspension!?? How dare you? Every GS rider rides to Starbucks and back without ANY ISSUES!!!! Something is wrong with you, clearly 😂
I've toured with my wife on my XR and she loves it
Make a video on how to install the bluetooth Module I'm kinda stuck on that one
It’s a dealer fit only apparently. I have it and have the Navigation, Music and GoPro controller working now. That’s on the list. 😃
I'd buy one for about $6K new because it really is mediocre for what it is. I'll just spend the same and get a couple CB900C form the early 80s and make one good one from it with a spare set of synced carbs. The first thing I'd have to do if I bought this one is finish making it retro by changing the turn signals. As it stands, I think the RE 650 will do nicely if I can get it in black with a black cruiser-style seat and red accents. But we all know how unlikely that is.
I have these fitted, just to say the washers go behind the crankshaft protector as per the Triumph instructions. At least that’s how I interpreted them
That’s sounds right, cheers 👍
My low chassis bike uses, as your would, stands for another model, they fit but aren’t bespoke designed for the low chassis. I know because part number for centre stand was from the other R model.
You are so right. I have the same bike , exactly, and it’s beginning to annoy me - 4000 miles from new and it’s settled into a bouncy castle or a bone shaker. It basically fails, as you say. If I set the preload to high it’s slightly better but of course you have to be stationary to do that and a shorter rider, High is too high for comfortable foot down.
On dry days try auto preload and Enduro mode on rougher and more undulating roads. It’s still bouncy but the bike allows more compression travel but the rebound seems more controlled. Careful on wet days as traction control is reduced. I must admit I did expect much better.
Doing this ATM, thanks. It's still not a good set up tho. I've also commented on the front sag in a different message
So i think it is obvious you are unhappy with your GS. I am curious over why you still purchased the GS instead of an XR in the 1st place? Ive never bought a bike ive disliked and i would always test ride the competition before i made my decision to buy. I realise there is no such "perfect" bike and there will always be a compromise somewhere, but to dislike a bike as much as you seem to after purchasing, does not make sense to me. I don't and have never owned a GS, so not a "fanboy" but i am considering one, amongst others, hence watching your video for other opinions.
I am curious, did you test ride this version before you bought it? I am wondering is this issue exclusive to your bike, why did'nt the one you test ride, put you off from buying. You must of liked it at the time in order to purchase it? I am only making this comment as i'm considering this version, ive only test ridden the standard version which was fine, but for my height the low version might be more suitable, but not if they all have this issue.
This is a great video and the sensible comments a a bonus for me also. 👍👍
Cheers, yes the comments add some nice depth.
I am 67 years old now, 6'2'' tall and actively searching for another bike again. I am only now discovering your channel. These two videos aimed at old men are spot on. I have watched your CB 11OO videos too. This channel is so helpful and a good laugh. Thanks a lot.
Japanese all the time
Terry It's beyond comprehension why Triumph would do such a thing like that. I agree that it would be nice to have symmetry. I'll bet someone will come up with a work around with the wiring. Ride SAFE and BE safe Sir! 👍👍
I bet they don’t, the CANBUS will flip its lid if the lighting is messed with ttrguy! Take it handy. 😃
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff Yeah, the CANBUS on modern motorcycles makes it so you can't do anything without triggering the wrath of the motorcycle gods! The system is always sniffing for something like a nosey woman going through your drawers, pockets, wallet and phone. Any violation could lead to an expensive trip to the dealer or your lawyer! 😆
Night ride with those headlights? To see how they work 👀
That’s a plan.
They look quite functional and still look good. Seems the more protection I have the more aggressive I ride, so might leave these off! :)
I was thinking it should read F/R as well. When I get new tires fitted, I will get the TPMS and ask if they can choose F/R. I am betting they can. Never had a bike with a TPMS system, but it would be great to see how much work I'm putting into the tires based on the pressure rise. I will sometimes stop and bleed off a couple psi from the rear on a particularly sporting ride to bring the tire back to better grip/compliance.
I bet they can’t change it! It is handy to have, I’ve had a good few punctures over the last few years.
Good stuff! Didn't even know these were available as they don't place them on the US configurator. But I shall indeed have them as they do appear to make the bike even more visible. The stock items are much better than the items on my late model Hondas; not just my opinion but based on cars taking action based on my signaling. My 24 Ninja 650 signals are also quite good. Thanks for sharing your work.
I just got the bike on Thursday and already rode 400 Kms :D love it so far!
Brilliant! That engine is addictive isn’t it? 😀
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff yes it is! Although, I'd like to ask you a question., I've been hearing this sound coming from the engine that I'm not sure is supposed to be there.. I took it to the dealer and he said it's all okay and that's how it's supposed to sound(but at that point I didn't pinpoint the sound yet). It's a takatakatakataka sound which is separate from the intake howl and the engine growl.. it is in sync with engine speed, comes with the clutch engaged. It's from the engine bay, not the chain or something.. went 400 Kms without a problem till now though. Any comments? Thanks Terry! :)
On further inspection I think that could be the sound of the fuel injectors :D
BMW knows their market. Modern UK congested roads are SO much more pleasant on a bike with a softer bottom end. The people commenting it’s gutless need to try it in bad traffic. A torque monster is great on wide open roads but PITA with any traffic. The latest model has little vibes, no more than any other high revving inline 4. I have both bikes to compare and they’re polar opposites which gives the best of both worlds. The seat cups you but an a tour I was fine with the M seat and a cover for all day riding. And this bike can really shift, you just have to rev it as it was designed - keep it above 5K rpm - it’s a sports bike on stilts. Always makes me laugh when people call it gutless sitting there in 4th at 40mph on 2.5K rpm FFS 😂
You’re dead right. It’s a fact of life we have to travel through towns and villages, a nightmare on a highly strung bike. Best of both worlds on this bike to my mind.
Thinking about getting one of these for a first or second bike (doing it late at age 50, but I'm more like a 30 year old physically). Great video.
I got a question, the headlights are just from one side? Can you make a fast clip or video about it?
It shall be done 😃
Awesome videos! Keep uploading videos of news or attachments from your bike!
Mines say lows battery when I just replaced it with a new one a few days ago
Great video. Thanks!
No worries 👍
