It's hard to choose a Daytona 660!

What other bikes did I consider before choosing to buy buying the Daytona 660?

    The only reason i went with the daytona 660 over the Street Triple R was the fairings. Both have enough power for what i want and it would have been nice to have the fancy IMU's but i do a lot of highway riding and a naked bike just doesnt fit my use case. So far so good, the daytona has been everything i hoped for and wanted.

    Yes, my Daytona 1200 is great on the highway for the same reason, much less tiring than a naked. Congrats and enjoy the new wheels!

    Fairings rule. I don't do much in-town riding. I've test ridden naked bikes and it seems urban commuting is the only place they shine. For road riding, I want more of my weight on the bars. The windblast on your chest riding a naked at speed pulls even more weight off the bars and front tire. Reduced weight (Normal Force) is reduced grip. No thanks.

    Hi Terence, great breakdown of the competition list. I'm happy to say that I got my Daytona 660 a few days ago and I'm loving it (US knows that Daytona has 0 doors :)). I discovered long time ago that sport touring bike is my cup of tea. Sporty posture and the way the bike cuts thru air allows my neck to stay relaxed during the ride, especially at higher speeds. Yes, head is in clear air, but there is no need to tense up upper body during a ride. And, yes, triple sound is intoxicating.

    That's great you got yours! My old Daytona 1200 is in a similar setup in that the fairing allowed me to travel at speed on a two day 800km trip which would of been totalling tiring on a naked bike. This new Daytona will be a practical bike in that respect. Cheers and enjoy those new wheels!

    Great video. I purchased a '24 Ninja 650 in January, and took delivery of the '25 Daytona this week. For me, there is enough difference to have both. The Ninja peg-to-seat was too cramped for comfort, but the Kawasaki Ergo-fit seat boosted distance by 30mm, adding more foam (and comfort) in the process. This also put a bit more weight on my wrists, making the triangle much more sporting than stock. Next, ditch the horribly stiff stock Dunlop tires for a more compliant carcass (Power 5) and it is a great do anything bike. With 4g tank, I have 220 mile range. Sport touring with emphasis on Sport. The Daytona seat to peg is already good, and I find the bars to be perfect for an all-round sport bike. Smaller tank and a more powerful motor yields say 180-190 mile range max. Less once I finish running-in. I like my aftermarket Power 5 tires more than the stock Power 6 tires on the Daytona so far.

    Great to have the choice of two and thanks for the detail. How do you find the handling on the Daytona Vs the Ninja? Do you think the Power 5's improve the Daytona?

    @@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff The Daytona feels like a more substantial bike; almost 25 lbs and an inch longer wheelbase will do that, but the rear suspension design feels similar, more progressive than my 22 CBR500R or 23 GSX-R750. (Yes, I've been buying bikes; almost a problem). The Daytona handling feels better the more throttle I use; only 441 miles from 2 rides thus far, but I can see myself replacing the tires with a Bridgestone Hypersport S22 (the new S23 is supposed to have a bit stiffer carcass compared to the S22) as the S22 will probably be the sweet spot for how I want to use the bike. I swear I can feel the grooves of the Power 6 under braking, and the Power 5 would eliminate that. All this emphasis on water evacuation. . . . that's what the Road 6 is for, leave my sporting tires alone, Michelin. :)

    @@GripEngineering Buying more bikes is never a problem, just an affliction! 🙂. That is interesting what you say about the Power 6. I do find them to be excellent (ridden in the dry now) but get a longitudinal imperfection in the road and it does struggle to know what to do with it.

    The ZX4RR was a bit too compact for my 5'11" frame, but then the lack of torque down low would make it more of a challenge for normal street riding. Neither of which are an issue on the Daytona 660.

    Price isn't that much of a factor for me right now and the Daytona is still on my list. I have a single (Dr. Z 400s) and a twin (an African one,) so I think I need to round out my stable with a triple. It's either the Daytona new or a 1200 rr used... or a Ducati Supersport....which isn't a triple but just because. They're all pretty bikes. I might wait until next year to see if they come out with a "race" package with exhaust and all that jazzy stuff that rings and whistles

Some people would look down on it, but Kawasaki knows how to make a fun bike. If I got another ninja it would probably be another zx6r tho. The bike with the SAD FACE

    A common response for many. With our smaller twistier roads cruise is not as important but I can see how it has a bigger impact for some geographies.

    @rightwingsafetysquad9872

    @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff For me, it's not necessarily about the geography or road characteristics. The bike already has throttle-by-wire and ride modes. It would be trivial to simply add the buttons for cruise. The rest of the electronics are already there.

    It's definitely more than a trident in a frock. The engine is very different, riding them back to back they are like chalk and cheese. Why would you buy? Yes, the 765 has a heap of extra power and 6-axis IMU, great adjustable suspension, lighter etc (i made a video on this exact point) but the 660 is cheaper to buy and insure, has a full fairing, is intentionally simple in its design and A2 capable. It is a tough choice, I will admit.

    Do you use different volumes when speaking or do you just yell at everyone all the time? Some days, I yell (GSX-R750). Most of the time though, I speak in a strong, but modest volume and the Daytona 660 and other bikes in this class are the perfect tool for the real world.
