I'm so happy for you Emmy!! When I lost my sense of smell I tried using a method where you smell 4 to 5 different essential oils every 2 hours and fortunately I recovered my smell in two days. The moment I started smelling roses I literally cried of joy, I thought I would spend months without smell like I've read in so many comments. Hope to see you happily tasting again!

@@jacquesc0usteau that’s not guaranteed. Some people from Covid have lost their senses of taste and smell entirely. Some rare and unlucky few have also had a side effect called Parosmia which develops after they regain their senses. It basically makes everything that is fragrant as food taste and smell like burnt sewage juice and faeces. It has actually ruined these people’s lives. They can barely eat because to eat anything is like trying to gag down a bunch of things you found at the bottom of the toilet in every conceivable way. It’s horrific for them. It’s one of the most horrific side effects of Covid for some people. They’ll never enjoy food or eating again. They’ll only ever taste and smell sewage and poo again.

I work in the fragrance industry, so needless to say, I almost had a nervous breakdown when my sense of smell got jacked up because of covid. It was not something that came back “overnight”. So many times I thought I would never smell things the same again. It was very slow and gradual. Actually almost a year after I got covid, I was still smelling SOME things differently. So, it can be very slow in returning and you might notice that even after many months, certain things might still smell alien. Thankfully, two years later, I can confidently say that my sense of smell is 100% back to normal, and I have an even higher appreciation for this gift.

Hey Emmy, my sister had Covid. I did find some techniques to bring back smell. Eventually your body will recover, everyone’s different, but I found an simple method that did help my sister. It does help to continue to smell things even if you can’t, your brain is elastic and can form new neuro pathways to help restore scent. So maybe several times a day, have an assortment of scents to smell, and repeat this process. Slowly you’ll begin to start smelling and then taste will follow. Ultimately my sister had to just let her body recover from loss of taste and smell, but trying out a regular method of smelling familiar things did start to work, even if just a little bit.

Hi Emmy! I love your channel! I watched a taste expert in a video recently, and she said that exercising your senses can help bring them back quicker. Essentially, she recommended using essential oils to try smelling different smells, thinking what it's supposed to smell like, and trying to trigger memories of those smells. I don't know if or why this might work, but I just really wanted to help if I could. Best!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if she hasn't regained it by now she more than likely never will or it will permanently altered. The reason why we lose our sense of smell and taste with covid is the inflammation in our sinuses destroys the neurorecptors. We do regrow these neurorecptors over our life which is why our sense of smell changes over time. However the covid may have ended up destroying all of hers. I would be surprised if it comes back. I wish her luck, it sucks to be without smell.

Hopefully watching & can’t wait for the outcome! I have heard about the burnt orange, but haven’t tried it… I tested positive for Covid 12/28/21. Was very sick for the first 2 weeks of January 2022. Lost my sense of taste AND smell. It’s been ONE WHOLE YEAR now, and it hasn’t returned 😞 I can finally OCCASIONALLY, sporadically smell or taste something. But mostly what I can distinguish in taste is salt, sometimes spicy, and if it is in the item, citric acid. BUT, I’m still here and that is what’s most important! I do hope they both fully return, because I am a “foodie.” I have always ENJOYED food… the smells, all the ‘tastes’ and everything that goes with it. I hope yours returns soon! It’s unfortunately a very different situation. The loss of taste and smell with covid is neurological (the nerves start working incorrectly) not physical like with a cold (getting stuffed up and blocking smells). You would be able to feel the sensation of spice though, just not the smell/flavor.

It's not your taste buds. Your taste buds can taste sweet, salty, bitter, and umami. That's why those aren't affected by COVID. The rest of tasting is actually done by your nose.
