2.7 ho makes more power and similar TQ while achieving similar mpg. Little less. Don’t see why they would need to offer the dmax. The 2.7 is also forged from factory and has similar characteristics as a diesel. Low compression/high boost. It’s a great little engine.

Wish I could've held out for a Colorado but I ended up with a 2022 Silverado 1500 Custom, pretty much identical engine and it has been like living a dream. The engine should not be underestimate, and the gas mileage has been great! Be wary, heavy throttle = high boost = worse MPGs than a V8.

The Tacoma is still old school, mechanical wise. Care Care Nut did a great video, going in depth on what makes the Tacoma so reliable. Only time will tell if GM built a lemon here, or not. One thing that is nice about the new GM engine, is how large of an 4 cylinder it is. That should help it last longer, although with turbos on it...who knows.

The 1st and 2nd gen Taco are solid (aside from 4.0L head gasket problems). The 3rd gen has not lived up to the reliability standard set by previous gens. Between the terrible transmission tuning, the engine tuning that makes it feel like the engine might stall out at intersections, high pressure fuel pump failures, cheap imported rear diffs with terrible gear whine (and leaks), etc... the 3rd gen is referred to as the turd gen for a reason. Even CR rated it least reliable midsize truck for like 3 years in a row. The 2GR-FKS was a downgrade from the 1GR-FE. There are way too many 2016 and 2017 Tacos with blown engines owned by veteran members of tacomaworld. A concerning number of blown engines IMO.

@@karlschauff7989 Yes I don't have much faith in the new generation Tundra. I have a 2008 Tundra with a 5.7L V8 engine with almost 300,000 miles. It is bulletproof. I seriously doubt the twin turbo engine will last that long without some very costly repairs. And the 3rd gen Tacoma is still reliable. There is a guy on youtube who posted his 3rd gen Tacoma with 300,000 miles already on the odometer. He claims he has had very little issues. I definitely trust the Tacoma over the new generation Tundra. It is the only reason why I got a Tacoma over a Tundra. Had they kept the 5.7L V8 engine in at least the base model, I would've gotten a Tundra. The turbo engine garbage will be the end of Toyota reliability.

I had a Taco that I was lazy and didn’t do the timing chain when I was supposed to and around 165,000 miles it decided to go, but didn’t fully, it would slip lighting up the dashboard but I was miles away from my mechanic and, because I’m a butthead, I drove it another 150 miles and it still kept going. Not well, but didn’t let me down. Didn’t damage the engine at all and my mechanic said that, while what I did was stupid, he’s seen other Tacomas go further with slipping past-due timing chains, even broken teeth, stretching issues, as in get them done BUT again just how indestructible the Taco/Helix is. The Chevy you tried that and bwahahaha nope. Not even bashing the bowtie, I owned a K20 for years and it was great but indestructible it was not.

The biggest thing the Toyota has going for it, is the absolutely massive fanbase and therefore aftermarket availability. You can turn that truck into anything you want it to be. That said, this new Colorado is very interesting, although it has to have cruise control, and a spray in bedliner. Those are must-have options, IMO. This new 2.7L motor is intriguing, I'm interested to see if it becomes a cult classic one day. Maybe I'll go drive one this weekend.

I have a 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 with the Duramax Diesel. There isn't a Tacoma in the world that could compete with it in towing, hauling, or gas mileage. Tacomas are fantastic trucks, but they are not work trucks. My Canyon has nearly double the payload, a full third more towing capacity, and gets 29MPG highway. The new Tacoma won't be much different than the current Tacoma. That's just how Toyota rolls. FTR, my wife drives a Toyota Sienna and I considered the Tacoma when buying my Canyon, but it just doesn't stack up.

A philosophical question for the TFL crew - with the massive delivery delays in the 23 Canyon/Colorado halfway through the model year, and the 24 Ranger and Tacoma re-designs out later this summer (Ranger reveal in early June), is it going to be better at this point to wait for the 24 Canyon/Colorado to do a true pairwise comparison with the 24 Ranger and Tacoma? I would like to order a 23 Canyon AT4 (BTW nothing on the lots yet here in New England to even test drive, Canyon or Colorado minus a few Chevy WTs), but if I'm going to wait 4 months from the order date and maybe see it in early September, wouldn't make sense just to wait and see what the Ford and Toyota re-designs bring to the table?

That in itself is something money can’t buy in the Colorado. That said, $40,000 plus didn’t even buy cruise control or a bed liner! The Tacoma obviously doesn’t need a bed liner by virtue of the composite bed. If GM was going to compete it seems they would at least make a bed liner standard. No cruise control, no bed liner, and going head to head against Toyotas reputation for quality? Really? “No go” for me. I found it annoyingly small both in the cab and in the bed, but the absolute worst aspect about it was how slow it was. Living in Texas, and driving mostly on the highway, I think the Tacoma is dangerously slow. It is the best selling... my response to that is neat... so is a McDonald's hamburger. The only reason to buy the Tacoma, for someone who uses a truck like me, is the resell value. I had the Tacoma for 11 months, and couldn't wait to get rid of it... so the resell value did help me out in the end. I got rid of the 2018 Colorado because after 30,000 miles the transmission started to bog down shifting from 2nd to 3rd... so unless they scrapped the old 8 speed and re-engineered a new transmission, with the help from literally anyone else who knows how to make a transmission, I'd never buy another GM product with one in it.

That's not a fact anymore the last 2 years but their prices keep climbing high still. They're really overpriced for what they offer as trucks. They're still low on payload and towing numbers. They're just living of their past good quality (excluding rusty frames, beds and some other issues). Too bad cause I'd love a Toyota HD truck or a "world beater" new Tundra but I don't see it happening. Tacoma is still more reliable but terrible on gas for how small it is and not real improvements. I’ve been driving a 2022 Tacoma trd with 16k miles on it for the past 3 weeks I’m not sure why there so popular I get they look good and it has some cool features but at idle it sounds like a diesel the transmission has slipped on a hill and everything feels cheap

It sells well because of reputation and resale value. It's definitely not the best midsize truck for many reasons.

The curb weight on the canyon / colorado is between 350-600 lighter than the Silverado . Fully loaded Canyon 65,000 and fully loaded Silverado is 90,000 what’s the better deal , Canyon/ colorado is all grown up now and the best bang for the Buck as far as I’m concerned , awesome truck

I ordered a new Trail Boss as well. Tacoma has reliability behind it is why it out sells Ford Ranger. Possibly will still out sell the rest. Colorado is very popular right now so we will see. I like the looks and performance of the Colorado over the Tacoma BUT will it hold up as well?

The Tacoma isn't the sales leader because it's the best truck in the segment. It's the sales leader because of perception. Is that deserved? Who knows. The online groups would tell you otherwise.

    Andre how’s the cruise work?

  • @NatesHomeTours
    @NatesHomeTours Жыл бұрын

As Much as I like the Colorado, (and I am planning on buying one next year), I can say the headlights on that are abysmal. No new vehicle should have halogen headlights, period, no matter what the trim level. The lack of cruise control was a real shock. For 41k that should be standard. The other thing I don't agree with is the engine. I'm sure it has the start stop and no way to permanently shut it off. So you have a turbo charged engine that requires exhaust to run the turbo and already that give a slight lag due to needing to build pressure to spin it up. Then you shut the engine off and have no pressure at all and have to wait for it to start and then build pressure. Not a smart idea. Plus the extra wear and tear on the starter. Just think you are pulling a trailer and have to come to stop and you forgot to hit the dissable button on the start stop. How slow are you gonna be getting going again? Especially if you are on a hill.

With a good running system it's pretty much instantaneous. Turbo lag is almost a non issue with this engine, and let's face it, the reliability of all vehicle isn't what it used to be.

Should do a comparison at 100k miles when the taco still runs easily and the Colorado is on engine #2. Be willing to bet the Colorado will stretch timing chains like every other gm product on sale.
