The crying is definitely not fake, the guy clearly had an emotional breakdown that night, and his head was not clear. We all relate to moments like this where ur not thinking right because ur very overwhelmed. He definitely wasn’t overwhelmed by the joke, but the joke combined with his wife’s reaction was the tipping point (also indication his marriage had a massive contribution to his stress that night) This isn’t a justification at all, but it is an explanation and a somewhat understandable one at that. Just because someone does something wrong it doesn’t mean you demonise them, you should try and understand they’re perspective, still admit their faults and act accordingly, but understand it.

Every oscar speech has the actor always thanking his wife for showing support and believing in them throughout their life. Imagine not having a wife that neither loves or supports you. You can see Will Smith wanting to thank his wife for supporting but.... He doesnt. Because she never did. He mentions everybody else but only ever mentions her once. Very heartbreaking. Instead Jada is just smirking watching him cry. It's not the Oscar moment he imagined.

This speech will live in infamy not just because he should not have been allowed to stay in the room and give it in the first place, plus it was utterly self indulgent with zero remorse, it was the crowd reaction. If you ever doubted Hollywood types double standards it was on full display here with the clapping and cheering for him and his win. It was not a natural human response and was sickening to watch to be honest.

There is no 'double standard' on display. WIll was awarded for his performance in the movie, which is not directly connected to the slap.
