I loved the new set up. So elegant and the way they framed the winners was beautiful. Having said that, I agree that the set up contributed somehow to Will Smith psychology in that it was close to reach, whereas high stairs it would have been more intimidating and self conscious as well as self reflective of his own actions as it takes an effort to go up there. Also it invites more respect to whoever is up there. Also the usual stadium seating would have been more difficult as it would break a pattern if Will stood up. Or even like last years, tables in front of them would have made the actors feel somewhat protected and a longer effort to stand up. But Will Smith was given vip seats on the front, their own separate space and they were OPEN and exposed to everything on stage. The special treatment encouraged him as well. It doesn't justify him though. It was a beautiful elegant set up but a free range for Will's fragile psychology at the time.

Anger and grudges is all coming from the devil, and I am proud of will for being able to admit that what he did was evil. Saying that it’s work of the devil does not mean he’s putting the blame on him. It’s still his fault for not holding back and he did already say that you need to smile and act like everythings okay. I agree. I've seen both performances and Garfield gave a career defining one. But I would have been ok with either nominee winning except for Smith. (and not just because of the incident, but because in my opinion it wasn't the best performance, he won because he was overdue).

That speech really slaps, I can't keep this win out of my mouth.

I feel kinda sorry for him. Will is probably one of the biggest actors we know and this was his FIRST Oscar and none of that mattered in that moment because of that slap. I just think it’s so crazy, this was this man’s most important moment probably a moment he’s dreamed about forever and you can hear in his voice and just everyone’s face that they know it doesn’t matter and the world won’t remember that night for him winning his first Oscar. @@kipwalker3455 That's the question, since most of previous Best Actress winners usually tend to present the Best Actor category and its declaration of that win of a category, every Oscar ceremony. So, probably, this has either got to do with Frances Mcdormand's personal decision or the Academy's decision.

I assume that Frances was busy. As for who gives it out next year, probably some Hollywood veteran will be given the honor. Maybe they can convince Jack Nickleson or Daniel Day Lewis.

Will, you deserved your award DEFINITELY but you now need to lay low and hopefully it will boil over

I was sickened with everyone that was there, they did nothing but gave Will Smith a standing ovation for assaulting Chris Rock on national television, these are the same hypocrites that complain about violence all the time when they virtue signal it but they promote or glorify violence in movies and condone Will Smith’s actions for he did, when they did that, they had lost all credibility and that took away so much from them, they not only condone it but they encourage it, hollywood are spineless and a joke, Chris Rock should had got a standing ovation for handling the situation well and kept his composure!!

Andrew Garfield gave the best of the best. So the oscars should be like the "The Academy of Life time Achievements "

I totally expected Will Smith to win this award as soon as I watched King Richard cause I thought he gave a phenomenal performance, I not defending his slap towards Chris Rock but he should never have his Oscar given up because of it, voting was already decided long before the incident and let’s be honest, slapping a comedian on live TV is FAR and away not the worst behavior any Oscar winner has ever shown *cough* Harvey Weinstein.

The police should have been called, Will should have been led out in handcuffs and charged with a crime. He should have been found guilty and he should have been made to serve the community in manual labor in public. That message would have been seen by kids throughout the country., This message is, "Be a big-shot and the laws do not apply to you." "We" have no right to forgive a crime that was not perpetrated against us.

I was always wondering when Will Smith would win an Oscar. He did for King Richard. But it left a bad taste in my mouth after what happened BEFORE he won the award.

that beginning though, I literally thought I'm having a stroke or something, just clicking on a video and boom there's Samuel L. Jackson yelling around, that music and that dance going on

What bothers me is that it's evident that Will Smith only won this Oscar because of his career as a whole and not because of the movie itself, King Richard Is Good But No Masterpiece. My supporters were for Benedict Cumberbatch or even Andrew Garfield. 🏆🙁🙁🙁

You can tell will smith was still conflicted from the slap based on the fact that he was the only nominee to clap, showing his lack of presence.

Pay attention to the background and watch closely : One of the greatest movie makers ever, Denis Villeneuve wasn't standing and wasn't clapping. I respect him for this. Kevin Costner wasn't happy about it too. No one should clap for Smith.

I do think he went through A LOT during his career. A lot of abuse and mistreatment. And it all overwhelmed him that night.

Academy, next year we want to see all the 23 awards during the broadcast, great movies are what they are because there're very talented people that work very hard, especially off-camera and sadly they don't receive the amount of recognition that they deserve. I feel so sad and sorry for all the workers that worked for a lifetime dreaming of one day winning an oscar and when the moment finally comes, they'd their speeches cut off from the live transmission.

I really wish things had been different. I use to say, “I’m the next Will Smith.” Now it just feels different. Happy for his win though. 🔥🔥🔥

Giving this a like solely for the Pulp Fiction reunion.

A lot has been made about those present who stood up when Smiths name was called. But the ovation was one of the shortest for an acting winner in recent years - even Casey Affleck got a longer ovation. Also I think a lot of people got to their feet in order to make a run for it in case the guy went full psycho again.

At last !!! I wasn't the only person who thought that this was not gonna be posted by the Academy because of you know what.
