Haha Nick ! I don't think there's much I can tell you about Wagners ! It was a real treat for me to get to drive this one. They are apparently the only two here in England.
Nice to see these old machines kept alive. All part of history. Great video 👍
I'm 70 years old and grew up in the Portland Oregon area. Wagner is still in business. During the second world war, the company that is now Wagner was building machinery for the war effort. When the war ended the company needed to find a product to keep the factory operating. They came up with an ingenious tricycle front end loader called a "Scoopmobile". These were designed to be towed by a small dump truck and used by local road departments to clean ditches. When I was a child, Scoopmobiles could be seen everywhere. A few can still be seen in Oregon today. Later, Wagner merged with another company to become Raygo Wagner. Actually, the first ever articulated front end loader was also a Wagner. During the '60s or '70s there were two operations, Raygo Wagner (above ground equipment) and Wagner Mining (underground mining equipment). I was driving a chip truck last year, hauling wood chips from lumber mills to a paper mill in SW Washington State. The paper mill uses 3 Wagners to pile the chips. They rolled one off of the pile last year and replaced it with a new one. They appear to be big clunky machines, but many mills seem to like them for pushing chips.
Once again Mucker your due diligence was the difference between success and failure. I didn’t think it would start because there wasn’t a bird’s nest! Seriously, the engine sounded sweet proving it is sound.
Just one of those iconic sounds. When I was a kid and that’s a couple years ago now. Most of the cement trucks, all the city buses had 2 stroke detroits. There is a cement plant a couple miles from my farm and in the morning when the wind was the right way you could hear the first loads going out for the day. I’ve got to find an old dump truck or road tractor with a screaming jimmy just for the soundtrack.
Those two stroke diesel engines sound so good. Cheers from rural USA.
Dad drove a Commer lorry with a Rootes TS3 two stroke (underslung) engine back in the 1950s. They were fitted with a Roots type blower (different company) and required a different style of driving to the normal four stroke. Always high revving even during gear changes they would de-coke after so many miles sending a shower of sparks from the exhaust.
Cool video. Old Detroit's don't leak oil, they are just marking their spot. Thanks for sharing.
A Detroit on full song is music to my ears. My dad got his truck licence with a truck powered by a 8V-71. Even though they're a rare beast now I still love the sound.
its really nice to see these two again, I remember reading an article about 10-15 years ago about these two machines, its nice to see they're still being cared for and to finally hear one of them running
Welker Farms, on YT, in Western Montana have a Wagner, to go with the 3 Big Buds, they are planning to rebuild the Wagner, sometime. I figure after the sons get their new houses built. Side note, the original company is trying to restart the Big Bud production.
I had a ford 4000 bought it in 1976 35 HP used it in a haying operation in Montana ,great little tractor
Terrific video. She is a runner and sounds strong as hell. Be nice to see the old girl in a field. But it was a great thing just to see it run and moving. Thanks again.
Another great video, love seeing all the old school equipment on your channel, looking forward to the next one =)
Good to see different machines like that....really enjoy your will it start stuff.
Sounds the part. Reminds me of Dublin years ago when they had Detroit 2 strokes grafted into double decker buses.
Great video, love your “will it start” videos, all the better for being part of a range of topics on your new enriched channel. Hope you get a chance to see if the older Wagner will start. 👌
The 4-53 had serious dependability issues, now the cousin, 6-71, of which I had two, & you did a video about same, those 6-71's were practically bullet proof. This Wagner concept can't be mentioned while ignoring the Big Budd influence on 4 WD articulated power units, BTW, Big Budd is set to return to life this spring 2023

Big Bud only came about because of Wagners demise and the Wagner dealer Hensler's in Havre who were still getting enquiries for Wagners decided to build the first Big Bud.

Apparently John Deere had tied Wagner up so they were unable to build tractors for 5 years after the agreement finished.
There is something soul soothing about the sound of those old screaming jimmy's! Nice to see the old girl running again! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Always nice to see old tractor come back alive and being a 2 stroke makes it even better.
Thanks for the explanation at the end of the video about how the emergency stop caused the issue. I’m not a diesel guy but I always appreciate the opportunity to learn new shite from LM.
I notice she's got the essential ear defenders on board drove Terex loading shovels with the Detroit, site was 7.5k long you could here them from one end of the site to the other !!
Back around 1976 I had my first encounter with a 671 Detroit, in a conventional road tractor. And yes, like a dumb-ass, after moving the truck away from the dock I pulled the "Engine Emergency" knob to shut it down. Lesson learned.
Excellent video and a great result!
Great Video Mucka, bit of experience goes a long way when solving a starting issue. Enjoyed the process👍
Good methodical diagnosis.... Well done!!
Brillant video well worth a watch ,thank you for involving one of my local framer Tony Hopper a very close freind of is father cheers again Lord Muck for your content and some good friends
What great looking pair of old tractors. Good vid...👍
Well done Sir, glad to see you're as sharp as I thought you were . Myself not so bright I'm afraid, because I dropped back to have a look see at the above-mentioned earlier video, and thought I'd back tracked far enough to leave you're Lordship a note about a channel you may find to your liking. Ole 2 Stroker is the channel, nice fellow outta upper New York state Full-time diesel mechanic I believe he is, but dam fantastical about those GM green beast he is, and a growing collection of them he's got. Even an old race truck from the 80's that supposedly turned up to 800 ponies that he's going to try to bring back to the way it originally was looking. He's already got her running, and shifting once again after sitting abandoned for way to long. Just give his channel a look see if you would, as I believe you'll find things to your liking.
Cracking video sir, west of Scotland didn’t see anything that fancy until they started using Detroits for road building kit thank you for the education
Another great vid LM, what a machine, I luv the insert clips - always a good laugh, thanks for the upload
Your knowledge is second to none mate .I enjoyed that!Another great video .
Proper job that Mucker. Nice pair of tractors too and nice to see some 2 stroke action.
Fabulous diagnosis 👍
Superb video mucka. What a machine never seen a Wagner before they sound amazing.
Well done mucker, lovely sound off those two stroke diesels . Looks like a good tractor .
A cracking video, good to see and hear it running👍👍
Great video. I never realized before watching your videos that Detroit motors were used in UK. I thought they were mainly here in North America. And I’m really surprised to Wagner tractors over there as well. Same thing I honestly thought they were only really marketed in Canada and the US. My dad is 83 and has been in farming and running construction equipment since he was like 16 so he’s spent a lot of time around Detroits. He still loves talking about running a big Koerring excavator in the 70s with twin 6V71s😊
Brilliant watch as always. Had us in stitches with inserts lol.
That Detroit soundtrack was something else when it fired into life 💯👍 love it how the ear muffs was on standby hanging round the steering column cuz omg you wouldn’t wanna do a days work without them
Another cracking video guys,well done.
Evening Mucker! I had not doubts that you would be able to get that tractor up and running! Very nice looking Wagner and sounding too. Fenland Rob
Mighty job Kurt, Pat, Tony and Puppo, You know Your stuff, Fair Play👌👌👍🙏🙂
Wot great tractor Mucker great sound from motor,,,, 👍🚜
Brilliant video, persistence paid off!!!
Lovely sounding those Detroit engines they were used in some of the Bedford Tm trucks
you learn some thing new every day well done. cheers.
Great video always nice to see something a bit different
I ran across your video inquiring about the new Big Bud tractors I have a 4:53 myself it was in a 1980 1 ton four-wheel drive pickup it got 17 to 19 miles to the gallon with a 353 gear ratio in a standard Rock Crusher 4-speed looking forward to get it running again and see what kind of mileage I can get out of her. Thank you for the videos and look forward to dealing more of your videos so I can learn more about the Detroit Diesel from the center of the United States take care and God bless
sweet job Lord Muck, if only everything was that easy that 1st battery was lacking the oomph but percey verence wins the day and when she caught your grin said it all. would be nice to see both running
Great bit of history there, quality engine, needs a bit of work in the spring 🤩
Wow, that’s got to be one of it not the best will it start I’ve ever seen. What a sound that Detroit makes. You know your stuff there Mucker!

Mucker ! That’s a fantastic video ! Great crack great content wicked soundtrack ! And again everytime you play with a Detroit I’m a sucker to go se if any cheep forsale around here 😂!
Those Detroit two strokes sound great I wouldn't want to be driving it all day but still an epic motor and the Wagner is a rare old beast never seen one this side of the pond 🤔 great work getting her running sweetly a bit of the party favourite works wonders 😉 great post cheers 🍻
Another success, great to see you working on something again Mucker! Gotta love a Deeeetroit, but how could you work with that glorious racket all day?! I remember listening to a Timberjack with one in when the Forestry Commission were felling around the home and farm when I was a kid. Loved it then, still love it now. It just echoed through the forest.
Very good vid, never knew the link between these and the JD. Good job 👍
Excellent video as always what a sweet sounding engine nice 👍
Great video mucker and Well done on getting her going she sounded great
First time I've ever seen a Wagner. Looks a little like a baby Steiger. Very nice!! And sounds great too! 👍 👌 Great job getting her running again
Sweet running old girl! My uncle drove Detroit powered trucks for many years, he used to say you could pin a picture of a Detroit to the wall and find a stain in the plaster the next day. Really it's a bum wrap though, most just suffer from the old rubberized paper gasket materials of the day. I've seen plenty rebuilt with modern gaskets and they don't leak a drop.

Two strokes have a lot of pressure in the crank case to run so oil get pushed out.
Did something similar with my Oliver 1950. Just after we bought it I took it to drive it a little to see what they are like. After parking it I knew about the emergency kill well mostly and after I shut it down I checked to see if it worked. Pulled the switch herd a clunk and thought it works pushed the knob back thinking that is all that is needed to do to stop the emergency shutdown no it isn't. Few minutes later my brother wanted it started again it started but wouldn't rev and smoking like all hell shut it down didn't know what happened but my brother figured it out quickly and properly shut off the emergency shutdown. I got lucky it never gave us trouble from that mistake the only issue it gave us was losing power sometimes so did what most people do with a diesel low on power replaced the fuel filters hasn't been a problem since. One thing I got to do is learn how to adjust the governor I don't get enough RPM for full PTO speed.
Cool looking tractor, cool sounding engine with both being rare in the UK, great video Mucker.
I really enjoy the will it start videos , nice looking machine.
What a beauty them Detroit stroke diesel sound awesome!! Great video mukka!!
Our local power station had Terex scrapers …… I could hear them from my house four mile away. Sweet.! 🙂👍
Another belting vid Mucker, still sat waiting patiently for some Schluter content .............Do Well!!!
Brilliant what a tractor and what a soundtrack, years ago trucks had dietroit 2 strokes in also, sound all of their own coming down the road, thanks that was a good one.

Very Nice One Kurt Thanks again
Very satisfying, nice one. Job well done.
Now that was a proper treat! I didn’t even know there was one never mind 2 wagners over here. Guess there’s one of everything if you know where 🤔🤷♂. Great to see her going again.
That old bugger must be blowing it's knickers out after that mess.. Good video ole Mucker from across the pond.
Nice one Kurt, ran fine once you sorted it out. Great video. “You did well” ✊👏👍
Great video and just the correct amount of movie clips as well 😜

I think a lot of it came down to the camerawork 😉 I'd like to think he'd have had a laugh with us, it was a wonderful day, Thank you 😊
Sounded good great video. Let’s see you get them out working that’ll be a fantastic video 👍💭🚜
Another great video has always lord muck 👍
You done good, we didn’t think it was going to start. But it sounded good, well done chaps
Nice job. Another big thing, as I understand, is to use SAE 40 engine oil, instead of multi grade oil. Bus Grease Monkey recently published yet another video about a shonky workshop service on a Detroit Diesel powered bus (mobile home), this one including an oil change with 15W40. Nice to see an example of the first type of modern pivot steer tractor. I watched an Arsenalen video which included a licence built Pavesi tractor used by the Swedish army as an artillery tractor and had wondered where the first production hydraulic pivot steer tractor came from.
I know noisy and probably uncomfortable but wow I want one. Brilliantly put together video chief !!
As always another great and interesting video.
Great video, love the sound of the Detroit engine.
How good was that? Just brilliant. Thanks for the video. 👍
Excellent video Lord Muck :) old Yellow Wagner tractor in good condition and running nice too! Next got get Air Filter Breather out so no mice in plug air systems too! Also got get Orange next fire up too and see how runs !
Mr muck at his best. Now back int day the nck eiger had a massive Detroit in it and a chimney fire at night whilst tracking ment you didn’t have to light a fire up the intake on a cold morning. But tracking a 120 tt crane around with that engine sounded like you was rolling at 150mph. Good effort mate keep it up until your review
Interesting tractors is the drop box in the rear end just noticed the two propshafts. great vid thanks.
Congrats Guy's, u manage to get the Yellow Cricketer/W4 running and driving. well done lad's...
Another great video. I remember when BEDFORD used to put Detroit Diesel into the TM.

They developed that here because everyone was putting Jimmys in there own trucks to get rid of the petrol motors. Dodge put out the D5N 700 with a 6V53, only about 400 made. Bedford thought they had better try to keep up. Not many of them about either. The US trucks took over then. A lot of deaf old truck drivers about from those ‘good old days’. I remember seeing a bloke driving a D5N 700 with ear muffs on when ear muffs were uncommon for anything. Jeff
Hi Mucker, them D53 or any with the blowers always sound great, them tractors were all bare back I believe, anyhow thanks for sharing.
Was given a similar lamp at Christmas - has inter changeable heads including a flexible swan neck - found those pesky small screws nuts and bolts many times.
A Great will it run and drive , a nice bit of history and engineering. Well done Mucker 🚜👍🔧
Another great video. Would love to them running together. And even working in a field.
Where I worked in the 70's we had a Euclid loader the howl of which could be heard all over the site, and quite a distance off site, when it was working on the coal stack.
Nice to see something a little different, what a smart and interesting piece of kit. Can’t mistake a screamin 2 stroke!
Another great video. Really enjoy the 'will it starts'. I was going to suggest having a go with the Willy's Jeep in the background next, but it seems a bit far gone.
I remember seeing a big Scammel Agro unit I think it was Knight Contractors in the early 80s on the road with Detroit 2 Stroke coming up that hill on the old A 130 near Rayleigh Essex sounded amazing
Brilliant video you know your stuff Lord Muck
Love the sound of a 2 stroke diesel just the way she screams when revved 👌
Great video, great to see.
Great video, interesting machine👍love the note of a Detroit
The Wagners have a look of old airport tugs about them. Thanks for posting. A new make for me.
