What’s the backend of Major Bob from? Surely not an original Fordson Major backend because I doubt that 1,000rpm PTOs were used then, and if they were did Fordson really over engineer the PTO drive to withstand at least 6 times! the original design load specs?
@LordMuck

Just standard Super Major and Diesel Major components.
@Titan604
5 ай бұрын
For some reason the original fordsons had the engine running quite slowly for 540 rpm, which meant that they were not far short of 1000 rpm PTO when at full engine speed. On the new performance majors they changed the gearing so 540rpm PTO = 1500rpm engine speed, perhaps still a little slow for the engine but it did improve the PTO horsepower a bit and helped justify the "new performance". And yes, the Fordson is very over engineered, hence why so popular as tractor pullers!

@@martymartin2894 I'm not 100% here but I believe the PTO is running either a generator or a hydraulic pump. Doubt it...
Why would you need that power at the pto?

Large power harrows, bed tillers, large square balers etc etc

How does the test work how does it put pressure on the engine to get its reading thanks. I see now that it is connected just like a baler or something else would be, but it must be very heavy or bolted down so that it doesn't flip with all that power.

@@martymartin2894 I'm not 100% here but I believe the PTO is running either a generator or a hydraulic pump. Whichever one it runs is going to be under a predetermined load either electrical or hydraulic. They'll use a hydraulic pressure reading or electrical output reading and translate that to HP and torque. I hope that makes some kind of sense...
Do u ever at all get worried that one of them power plants is gonna spit something out the side when she gets brought to her knees 🤔..as you're standing next to it??

@@LordMuck We did get the 6499 in Australia We had a 6465 6470 all dyna 6 . Oh sorry the 74 series had the Fendt back end . I remember when Massey wanted the Hydrostatic back end from Fendt . Fendt told Massey you can Have the trasmission but you guy need to make up your own system to drive it . That came out at one of the massey training schools

So the machine puts an applied load on the PTO shaft so it makes the tractor work harder and the power it is putting out is what is displayed.
I hear the bigger nice masseys are sposed to be better. The ones around here up to 100 or so hp are built in China and they are junk!! My buddy can’t give his away.
