Albion, Bedford, Commer, Dodge, Maudsley and many more, once a common sight on British roads. Now their factories are housing estates with maybe a road named after them as the only reminder of what was......and yet.... there are many people like Matt who manage to keep our transport history alive with their diligent searching of parts be it from donor, NOS or remanufactured. I think it's the passion we have to preserve our heritage and I'm wondering if that is what upsets LubeTube so much? If so Carry On.

All of the Matador vids are now popping up in my feed and im chuffed! Cant get enough of them right now. The style of lorries you guys have are so different than here in the US, and it's brilliant. Theres a certain style about them thats unique yet robust. Being a history buff, particularly about WW 2, seeing those vehicles still around and being brought back to life is fantastic. Love watching you guys working together. Cheers from the US Lord Muck!

Great video! Love to see these Matador’s. Always wonder if my dad drove one. He was a driver in the RAF in WW2, stationed in Norfolk, Suffolk, India, Burma and Aus. Unrelated, while stationed on USAF base, the base commander lent him a Jeep and fuel to go to Solihull for the night for his mum’s birthday! How he managed to find his way pre A14 with no road signs? Don’t know!

Does anyone remember seeing naked bus, coach, and truck chassis, being driven from the chassis builders, to the coach, or truck cab and load-space builders. The driver would be complete, with goggles, big duffle coat, perhaps a crate to sit on, and not a lot else besides trade plates. As a 76 going on 77-year-old, I can tell you I know how the bodywork on that Matador feels. The big difference, is that can easily get new boards and fettled ironwork, boy do I feel jealous. The dog wants me to get some rebuilt legs, to give her better walks, without moaning and groaning. I would quite like that upgrade.

I bought an Airfix AEC Matador kit in about 1969. Later that year, the man over the road co-opted me to be his dogsbody for his DIY projects. He had been an apprentice at AEC Southall after WW2 and he had huge cans full of nuts, bolts, split pins and lord knows what else which he had acquired at Southall. He taught me how to decorate and bunged me a few bob for my efforts which augmented my pocket money. When he would go out with his wife, me and one of his daughters would spend some "quality time" on the sofa. Her Dad used to talk about the Matador from time to time but he mentioned that AEC dropped the name- as a matador's job was being a killer- but I don't know, more likely AEC just stopped making them.

When I was a kid once or twice we got driven up to London- on the A4- the Old Bath Road before the M4 was built. We used to see men in raincoats, gloves and goggles driving a chassis up the A4- they were testing some vehicles out of AEC, Southall. They may have been driving them to Park Royal Vehicles- AEC's sister company for a body or just testing them out. The Good Old Days.
