Will It Start After Sitting For 2 Months? | Cold Start

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I attempt to start my 1977 Chrysler Newport while it's below freezing outside and has been sitting for around 2 months. Will it start? I know I am a huge fan of cold start videos, but are you? Please let us know if you like these types of videos, since we have plenty of V8's to start up! Remember to like, share, and subscribe. It really helps us out :)

a 1977 Chrysler Newport was my first car back in the late 90's...I picked it up for $500, it was in excellent shape, it was forest green, had the 400, lean burn (power robber), did not have the wings on the windows or the rear defrost...however I did love that car...I grew up Mopar as well, and was the oddball loving the "C" bodies...thus far I've had the Newport, a 1974 Chrysler Imperial (74 and 75 came with factory 4 wheel disk brakes), and my favorite of all my 1972 Plymouth Fury iii (360 2 barrel, 727 Torqueflight, with the folding headlights...Beige with green interior, High back split bench). How I do miss that car...Hopefully one day I'll be back in a "C" body myself...lol. Keep saving them, there aren't too many C body enthusiasts out there.

I’m always so envious of these vintage Mopars. I have to settle for newer models like my current 2018 Durango. I would love to find an old daily for my 17 year old daughter. She’s become quite good at identifying classic and modern Mopar products. I had a feeling when she was 3 and was underneath my 2008 Ram helping me change the oil and rear shocks that she was a future gear head

Watched your video on the tour of this car, and I immediately subscribed 😅 Glad to see that you're preserving these 70s Mopar C's!! I have 2 of the Formal years; one's a 74 Fury Gran Coupe with the 400 Thermoquad, and the other is my 77 Royal Monaco "Bluesmobile." I paid only $5 for my Bluesmobile, so they we're practically giving it away!! 😂 My Fury is beyond salvageable sadly. Body is more holy than all of the Churches in America combined, but the frame is just perfect to be used on my Bluesmobile with the big block swap!! My Royal is rocking a rather tired 125k mile 360. I am going through the process of restoring the body on my Blumo as we speak, and the engine swap will be next spring. I am acquiring 74 front clip parts to make my car 100% Dodge without any Fury parts on the front clip. Hoping to take my Blumo to Nationals next year and hopefully run into you to shoot the shit and whatnot 😂

My 66 Coronet 273 2bbl is always hard to start after it sits over 24 hours. I believe it’s a combination of evaporation through the bowl vent and gas in the float bowl draining past the metering rods. I usually prime the carb to avoid prolonged cranking. On the other hand, my 74 Charger 318 2bbl will start right up after sitting for 5 months. It’s a freak; go figure.

My family has always been a Mopar family. One thing they taught me is never to free rev a big block...Chrysler big blocks have soft cams and can round the lobes...You can rev them, just stay out of the 4 barrel. Also, if the big block is a high performance with the dual valve springs...start them weekly, otherwise the lifters will bleed off. Fun fact, Chrysler timing chain gears were Nylon tooth, and were only good for 60,000 miles, they used nylon to reduce timing chain noise. I had to replace the one in my Newport on the ground in 7 degree weather with snow and ice on the ground...lol

It's not surprising it started. I can let my cars sit for several months. They always start. I just use some starting fluid to help them a bit. It takes longer than a new car to get them going because the gas has to pump up to the carburetor with a mechanical fuel pump, unlike an electric pump on a fuel injected car. One pump to set the choke. Crank a bit to get fuel up to the carb. Pump once or twice to get fuel into the intake (you don't want too much or it will flood). Crank a bit more - should start. The reason the car is running rough like that is because the choke is set too tight - the choke isn't opening enough so the engine is running too rich. It can be adjusted, or you just let it warm up for a few minutes, it will release a bit as the choke coil warms, and it will run leaner and run better. You have the electric choke warmer hooked up, right? Also, the Lean Burn spark computer (which I'm not blaming for the running rough situation - it's the choke) does not advance the spark timing until the engine gets to 120 degrees F. With 0 spark advance, if you try to drive it around, you'll see acceleration will be much less than normal. If you give it a lot of gas when it's below120F, it will tend to pop back through the carb or the exhaust. I'm not quite sure why Chrysler did this. I had a 77 Newport with this engine and Lean Burn and that was just how it was. I had to be patient with it until it warmed up. Then it ran much better. 10 minutes warming up is more than enough time in cold weather.

She's a keeper, I would remove the lean burn, I had problems with it on my '77 Cordoba.

Try some good old seafoam in your gas tank and through a vacuum line leading to your intake manifold. Get the car hot then pull a vacuum line from under the hood . Now let the hose suck up seafoam till it stalls. Let sit for 10-15 minutes . Reattach line . Restart and go for a drive at a good cruising speed . If your dirty you will leave a trail of smoke . Keep driving till it goes away . Usually takes 5- 10 miles . It works I swear by it !!!!!!

You just have to pump the gas a little? Im guessing that just floods the engine with some gas to start up?

Scotty hates Chrysler. That newport was made right around the time chrysler went bankrupt. Lee Iococca saved the company. So not the grand years of chrysler like scotty says. My mother had a 1974 newport. It was lime green. First car my parents had with a/c. Could pack up all the kidsin the neighborhood in that thing and take us to the outdoor ymca. Think it only got 8 mpg. Scotty hates gm too.
