Excellent comparison video. Thank you for taking the time to film and upload this very informative and interesting video. I hate to say it but if it was 1977 and any one of us knowing what we know now, we would have a fleet of these with all different options and different models. We would have a warehouse full. But it would be a beautiful thing. And I agree with a viewer who wrote a comment that demo derbies should be illegal and i agree. Stop destroying history. Preserve it instead please. They will never make these again unfortunately.

My mother had the basic Newport. I made a comment on your other video. Thanks for the great memories and for saving automotive history. The gas tanks in the two cars had totally different geometry, but you're right on how capacity was limited by space available in the body. The T&C tank is somewhat vertical in orientation. Think of it as a counterbalance to the spare tire. The Newport tank is more horizontal.

Hey great video, but I just want to point out a few things. The vinyl / chrome molding that's on the side of the car is not "door edge protectors". It's actually called "body side molding" and were probably installed by the dealer or the owner did it themselves as I don't see it on the option sheet. Door edge protectors are chrome strips that slide onto the edges of the door, so when you open the door, you don't chip the paint on the door edge if you hit something like a garage wall or another car. Your sedan has wheel covers, not hub caps. Hub caps only cover the center of the wheel (where the lug nuts are). Sometimes people refer to them as dog dish hub caps.

I think that the "door edge protectors" that you are thinking of were aftermarket. It was a u-shaped plastic extrusion that was sold by the foot at auto-supply stores that the DIY-er would cut to length and slip over the door edge. I remember my parents' 2 door C-body had these (in addition to "body side moldings")......almost a necessity as those doors were probably 5 or 6 feet long.

...hey, guys ..nice "head-to-head" with the Newport and the Town & Country... ...FYI, the optional tow package for the T&C featured beefed up rear shocks with automatic levelling control...a larger anti-sway bar to prevent the "tail wagging the dog" syndrome in which the trailer could actually cause the standard wagon's rear end to lift off the road and sway side to side ( a control disaster)...and also featured the transmission cooler and beefed up engine cooling ( bigger water pump)...a good idea when hauling an Airstream over Loveland Pass west of Denver at 12,000 feet... ...almost all tow packages were factory installed...though the dealer could do so for an existing T&C not so equipped... ...the Lean Burn module was a victim of its being the first large-scale electronic fuel injection system...and it was so unreliable that most Chrysler mechanics replaced them with standard carburators to keep the customers happy... ...and, though single glass front windows were standard...Chrysler execs knew that many of their older repeat buyers smoked and still wanted the vent windows to "vent the smoke"out of the passenger cabin... ...and lastly, the wagons got the slightly wider profile tires to provide better road handling when loaded to the gills or towing a heavy trailer... ...your Texas Newport shows how well preserved these C-body cruise ships can be without road salt/mag chloride... ...keep 'em coming, guys...snd enjoy the ride...

Hi ! Thanks for sharing these cars and all the details. I love your channel ,the content and the cars, especially that 73 C body you scored at the Texas Mopar hoard sale. You might want to photo the option plates for both these cars to see exactly what they were optioned with. ON some Mopar's, you can run the VIN online or write away for a full decode for the entire car, from order to build and delivery. If you need help doing this, I do all my Mopar's and have done so for 20+ years of my 40 working on Mopar's professionally. Yes, the road wheels are super sweet and a nice addition to any one of these. The wing windows are an odd-duck, I've never seen one with them in 1976/-77. 400 and the 440 were not that different in horsepower or torque. The Lean Burn may have something to do with the lack of performance in the 400, but I'd bet the wagon has better gears for the towing package I think I saw it had. Also look for a clogged catalytic converter, high manifold vacuum would be the forst give away. All told, both cars should perform similarly, my thought would be the Neport was faster but the T&C has more torque for towing down low. The Newport likely had highway gears 2:73 or higher, maybe even in the 2:50's, whereas the T&C with tow package would have had deeper/lower gears, think 3:23, 3:55, or 3:73. I don't think 3:91's were an option in this year car, let alone without the Sure Grip differential, but they might have been available on the wagon special order with the tow package and no Sure Grip. I'd really like to see the option plates on these cars and see how they are optioned. I'm looking forward to more of your Mopar content soon! Maybe a 70's Magnum or Cordoba. Rich Corinthian Leather, I didn't know they had cows in Corinth! Ciao! It is nice to see young guys and gals getting into the older cars, especially the cars that were not popular collector, IE A and B bodies. A '73 C Body Hard Top coupe, like the one that was used in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot during the Rabbit scene when Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges were picked up on the side of the road hitchhiking by a crazy doped out dude!. " I really love the motor in this car, it's FAST" or similar quote directly from the nut driving the doo- doo Brown C body coupe hard top in the movie. That car was fast and hiked up in the rear end. Good looking and good running C-Body!

If you look back, the 74 New Yorker looked like your Newport, and the 74 Newport had different tail lights...After 75, the New Yorker adopted the Imperial body style, and the Newport Adopted the New Yorker's body style...The top end options available were all adopted from the 74 and 75 Chrysler Lebaron Imperial, however the only option that was dropped was the 4 wheel disk brakes, available only for 74 and 75 Chrysler Lebaron Imperial. My 74 imperial had the 4 wheel disk brakes, they stopped on a dime, and the pumpkin on the rear end was massive, like the size of a stop sign...shape as well...lol. I believe it was a Dana. It was a nice car, unfortunately I had to sell it. Imperials were non poster cars.

Edmunds new car prices - gives all options and prices. Very useful tool; over the years I've collected 1969 through end of publication (2004?) I think I've got all the original brochures for Chrysler too, late 50's through the 90's or early 2000s. Odd that the wagon doesn't have a roof rack. Missing the 'T&C package' I assume. Chrysler offered 2 trailer packages - the upgraded one was reasonable expensive so am inclined to believe you got the trans & steering coolers, etc. with it. Nice thing about the T&C is the 50/50 slit bench; cost more on the Newport.

Hey Collin! Wonderful video, it warms my heart seeing a young lad taking a genuine interest and having a real love for the large Chrysler products. You have an excellent mentor getting you to speak of all the features and options for these cars. I too would have checked off Sure-Grip too, most of my vehicles have some sort of limited slip or locking type differentials. Yes, too it is sad many of these cars have met a sad fate. BTW, put on a manifold stove pipe to the air cleaner on the Sedan, you will find cool weather drive ability will improve, especially when damp, the heated air will help prevent carburetor icing. The sedan's compressor has what is called an inertia ring. It helps to dampen any vibrations from the large two cylinders of the compressor. These are very robust units. I really look forward to the continuing stories about the C-bodies. Thank you for posting!

I think you’re wrong about the Newport color. Read the under hood build tag for the code to see for sure. I would guess the wagon also had HD suspension since it has a factory tow package. The rear axle ratio might also be lower for towing which may explain the considerably better performance feel compared to the Newport.

Just ran across you video....liked/subscribed on first vid. You guys have a good presence/presentation. Our family took delivery (special ordered) 77 NY Brougham as I was getting my license in '77. I know a fair amount about this era of Chryslers as I was very interested in cars, as well my father worked for Chrysler at that time. The road wheels were a major favorite for my family.....they eliminated the chance of "losing" a hubcap. They did have trim rings on them but virtually unable to be lost during drive. Feel free to contact me on any random questions regarding this era of Chryslers....id be delighted to share any knowledge ive got or answer any strange or obscure questions you may have. One random thought on the "speed control" Chrysler was among the first to offer the "resume" feature. GM didnt offer that until maybe 79 in the Cadillac. Notice on older gm's there is just the "set" at end of turn signal. The lean burn system was sort of a problem even being new as it sort of starved the engine of fuel.....the technology was advanced but not perfected when introduced. Again, enjoy your channel and looking forward to watching more.....I would welcome trying to answer obscure questions.

An interesting option with newports, and new yorkers, you could order them with or without door posts...aka poster or non poster cars...the non poster cars, once all windows are rolled down, looked to have one large continuous window from fron to back on both sides...no door posts to seperate front from rear. I have also noticed that poster cars have higher ground clearance than non poster cars.

I have an idea for a show ....take that Newport now as is and get some 0 to 60 x 0 to 100 times using app on smart phone. Then A few inexpensive...as far as a Ball spinning on a flat earth goes....should wake it up.... take that 400 carburetor and replace carburetor with a 440 high performance 1 from 1972. Remove distributor replace with a direct connection high performance distributor and necessary parts for it. Replace the plugs and wires with NGK plugs in 8 mm wires. Remove belt from air conditioning unit. Check fuel pressure replace with high volume and high-volume hoses and also check for closeness 2 exhaust to minimize vapor lock. Time the engine go multiple times until you get the heat range of plugs right to fuel shouldn't be that difficult remove smog s*** if must do but I think you could just block up any hoses that are there many will connect right to that carburetor with PCV valve Etc. Get some good fuel you got to throw some ice on the intake throw some ice on the intake with some burlap bags. The plugs will tell you what's up its most important get that heat range right on that motor timing right then go do some 0 to 60 times 0 to 100 times using same app on your phone. Food for thought my friends.... enjoy the show ...you guys are like Peanut butter is to Jelly ...like Dick is to Asshley...like Mo is to Par....like Led is to Zeppelin. 😉😎 Well done!! Cheers bro's!
