The shifter mechanism isn't too hard to put back in place. Unhook one shift rod from the column, then move the finger that moves between the 2 column arms until it is connected to one of the arms. You should be able to reconnect the rod and shift gears then, at least until it hangs back up in gear.

I just got a 72 gmc long bed in similar condition as this truck
If you look in a manual it will show you how to adjust the shift rods on the column with a drill bit that fits through both of the rods and a reference hole on the column in neutral position with the adjusters on the transmission levers on the transmission. This is not that complicated and it fixes it almost every time so find that article and there you go.

My father recently got a 2008 4.6 liter Ford Mustang GT and I’ve been customizing it because of KZreadrs like you. You make not only me but a lot of people love restoring and customizing cars. This is a saying I always go by. Where other people see junk and trash, I see an opportunity to learn and have fun.

My favorite body style . My dad had a 67 & I learned to drive it in the hay fields when I was 12 ...
When I was a kid, my dad had a 69' C10 lwb Blue on White. It was a rust bucket but that truck held more memories for me than I thought when it was sold.
Easily one of the best vehicles I ever had was a really nice original longbed like that. Same powertrain but with factory tach and soft headliner, coil springs, and a really nice two tone paint job. I had the last payment on the dash and was headed to the post office to mail it when my neighbor's hunting dogs ran out in front of me and I hit a soft shoulder on a bank, rolled it, and mangled the cab. I always wanted to build one like that with a Pontiac 4v OHC six and a T5. It's pretty amazing how resilient those old sixes were. Not surprised at all that one cranked up and ran ok.
“Only suing the Insurance Company” is why my commercial insurance cost me $2500 a month..
I drove one of those (my Dad's) around 74-75. The column shift would occasionally jam and you'd have to get out and pry on the levers under the hood to get it shifting again.

I love that truck, the patina is perfect in my book, it would make a wonderful donor for a 454 that I know of, getting it out to Arizona would be a problem tho, I hope to see this project through! Thanks Dylan!

Just disconnect the second and third gear linkage so you'll have first in reverse without hang up and and disconnect and loop the heater core hoses so you can drive it around the yard
I all honesty great to see you putting out content on a Saturday and I promise you I'd make one out of two. Great Job 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

I think the issue with the trans is that the trans mount broke and bent something when that thing rolled on it's passenger side. Likely, the drivetrain flopped about a bit when it was on it's roof. That also explains the hood dent, roof dent and generally mangled state for the passenger's side fender, and why it was used for parts. It's probably what parked it.
OMG, Dylan on a Saturday & a Chevy! Great job 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

my old 74 car has an inline six like that, a GM250... it sounds awesome!!!
Back in the old days when the carb was mounted on the Exhaust manifold @Dylan McCool
So many things on my mind watching this. 1) I wish it was for sale. 2) I wish I had money in the event it was for sale. 3) IF it was for sale I wish it was closer to Texas. And more... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😒🤔🤔🤔 Awesome video! God bless you.
I had a 69 Chevy C20. Body rusted away and I sold it over a decade ago now. Sold it running. That thing was the most reliable and easy to work on truck I’ve ever had. Just wish I had gotten it before it had near rusted out. 3 on the tree with a 305. I installed a junkyard manifold for a quadrajet I had lying around and it could do burnouts no problem. Originally had a one barrel if you believe it. Dad always thought it was the motor but I knew better. Loved that truck.
While I'm dreamin', Dylan is out here living the dream.

Excellent video Dylan :) I learned on 1968 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck my one late Farmer friend of family in 1990's Navy Blue , Navy Blue Interior , had West Coast mirrors on doors, had 292 with 1 barrel carb Carter think was 500 CFM with Hand choke cable knob in dash work too , Manual transmission of 3 in tree , updated 1978 Chevrolet 15 1/2 ton bolt 377 rear end gears posi , 4 wheel drum brakes too, 7.50/ 16's studs rims factory with chrome dog dishs, fuel tank in behind seat , Am factory GM Delco radio plus antenna one speaker in middle too, 70 amp Alternator plus Generator light work too it , Steering wheel was Chevrolet type with chrome cap for horn switch too and slide back window too ! Chrome front bumper & back to but seat sat on metal pail on driver side Lol and for Gas pedal had Farmall clutch grip on to pivot arm in shape like this backwards T because rubber broke off but mounted on with small door hindge on floor ! But was only truck seen when had clean up brakes drums had Emergency brake handle hook for front and back wheels also factory option and no power steering or brakes too! Plus rad was rare of 4 core and truck suspension was heavy duty for 3/4 or 1ton type frame and called it 5/8 ton ! But was interested truck Dylan also this to Rock Auto sell Three in Tree also lube up Iinkage maybe need heat with torch too unstuck it !
That knob on the dash to the right of the fuel gauge is your manual choke cable
Seen these trucks in an add on facebook I believe. Good to see you taking tare of them

The 3 speed mr.gasket shifter is usually sold at AutoZone there is nothing wrong with the motor in that truck you have a good body right next to it there was more wrong with the fury but you fixed it.
Ordered myself a 2023 Ram Rebel. It’ll be my first Dodge. I’m excited!!
the mechanisum on the column itself where the rods hook to gets gummed up over time and needs to be lubed up so they both can slide up and down the column freely. those rods and that steering column NEVER WEAR OUT. lube it up well and then work each rod back and forth until the upper arms on the column move back and forth up and down the column. that should solve your problem unless your clutch disc is shot, but even if it is those rods and the mech. will still move as they should. dont give up on it! i drove this same same setup from 1982-1992 and gave it hell! lol,,,
Love your videos man keep up the great work with these videos they are super fun to watch

Dylan I really honestly enjoy all of your videos alot and I've learned alot of things from you that I didn't know was possible to do as I am a back yard mechanic for many years and I must say you are a very good teacher and watching your videos is the most best thing ever and I will continue watching your videos
Yep. I carried a 2x4 just for the clutch pedal and went under the hood to shift it when she got bound up. Adjusting or new bushings. Nice ol 3 speed on the floor is best. Love thos trucks. Frankenstein those girls.
The finger that moves the shifter arms on your column needs to be moved back into the right position. It may be easier if you unhook the rod to one side so you can get that piece back in alignment.

Hey Dylan I just wanted to wish you and your whole family Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hopefully many more to come
That old straight six got a nice Lope to her Sounds pretty Mean and Peppy @Dylan McCool
All the dents and the single miss matched door and all that patina give this truck some character
Merry Christmas Dylan
I’ve got a 69 C10 that same color! (It’s called Maroon Poly, and it’s the rarest color for 69 Chevy trucks). That two-tone isn’t original, though; they didn’t start that two-tone style until 1971 (I actually added the same two-tone to mine when I restored it). That truck looks to have similar options to mine, too: 3-speed manual, deluxe side trim, painted bumpers, heavy duty suspension (that’s why it has the 6-bolt wheels. It’ll also have rear coil springs like a newer Ram). It looks like the only major differences I can see between this one and mine is that mine has a 307 small block instead of a 6, mine has deluxe gauges, and mine has a black interior instead of the red one like this one. I’d love to know if this one has the wood bed floor, too. You’ve got a mighty rare truck there!
I decided to come back to this channel!

has a after 70s hood to, before 70 it was more sloped, gorgeous truck

Have you checked the linkage at the transmission? Some of the rod bushings are probably gone and causing it to bind. The clutch pressure plate or flywheel may also be broken.
Giver the beans!!!! cool lil truck even more bulletproof than a V8, Sounds good.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends
MERRY Christmas ❄️☃️🎄to you and your Wife. God bless ya. Love ya vids
I met Mr. Morgan, was working down in FL, Fort Myers convention center... he was doing a seminar for law and stuff about his son, but he was probably the most honest lawyer I've ever met in person.. what a wonderful man.. he's got a GREAT team working for him.. Trust is with Morgan, I will say that.. I have a picture somewhere
I have a big soft spot for those trucks! my dad had an orange 72 C10 long bed for 20+ years. I grew up riding around in it, and ended up owning it myself for 5-6 years. I miss it a lot, but it was about as rough as that one. Heres my vote, pull the 250 I6 out, freshen it up, 4-barrel and headers, slap a GM T-5 behind it and slide it in that gorgeous 68! then get some V8/trans combo for that truck, get tires and brakes on it, and just go have some fun! burnouts, dirt road sliding, who knows what lol. Great video man!

The shifter problem is likely the bushings at the tranny. Waste the entire setup with lube, and it may come back for you. At least enough to cruise the yard. Looks like you're gonna need an alternator as well, that pulley is toast.
The older chevy shift rods were bad about crossing up. We used to have to jump out and unbind them all the time. I had a 69 C10 .

I got a 74 Chevy stepside and it sometimes hangs up. Luckily, it isn't more than once or twice a year.
i bought my7 fathers 1984 chevy Silverado and that was in 2010 she had the 6.2 litre diesel in her 84 ,000 miles 4x4 we called her Indian Princess because of the paint only chevy i ever loved and that was his second truck his first was a dodge D150 SE and i bought her so he could buy the 84 her name was Tiger Lily because of the paint scheme both were two tone and very beautiful any way that 6cyl still has a lot of life in her pull the engine and sell the rest and another great video oh yes on the MORGAN AND MORGAN haha when i lived in florida every other commercial on the tv was morgan and morgan oh yes whats up with the 58 savoy i saw the hood up
Dude this is absolutely epic that you’re doing a 69 my 69 was almost exactly like that it had manual in the floor but was converted to automatic mines a long bed as well but the only difference is that mine is an arizona truck with absolutely zero rust love the content Dylan!!!!! Much love from AZ!!!
Old school all the way, Dylan your videos are awesome, I would love to have that old 69c10 . Dylan you are a amazing guy. Keep up the amazing work you do, your channel is amazing
Always Mopar but I like it all my father had a 71 GMC with a V8 loved it it was burnt orange or copper I think with some sort of name it had loved it I was little my friend had a Chevrolet pickup truck with a 292 inline 6 memories good ones
Engine runs supper smooth after the tranny and clutch are in Neutral Nice 6 cylinder @Dylan McCool
Good to see you
Give her life again. She wants it that’s why she doesn’t want to shut off. Keep up the good work.
I had a 65 short bed with the same engine back in 1985! Blew up one morning on the way to school! Rod went through the side of the block! They don't like 100 miles per hour very long! About 30 seconds! LOL
That does run pretty good. I had a 69 swb stolen back in 99 and I loved that truck

They are cool trucks, Im building a 63 right now!
One thing is good about the old GM 6 cylinders you can get the spark plugs in easily unlike the Dodge Slant 6
Love the videos!!
Nice job!
Good video I like the Chevys too I like Dodge too I thank you for the video a merry Christmas and a happy New Year's to you too
I am SO glad you don't taste the oil off of the dip stick like some do lol.
BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!!!THANKS DYLAN FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO,LOVED IT!!!!!👍🇨🇦🇺🇸❤🙏
Awesome always 👏
Very cool 👍 yes it was fun thanks 👍 Lee
Dylan, we have to talk about the definition of "like a brand new truck" ;-)
Hey Dylan: Just goes to show that you can't kill a Chevy... No matter how rough the rig is, if you can work it through, you will eventually start it up... From the home of PB Blaster Silicone spray... Cleveland, Ohio.....
This is the first time I’ve seen a KZreadr have a insurance company advertise
Watching the tires they were spinning. Love the saw blades always liked those. Poor Chevy
Easy Fix ! I had many Trucks with three on the column and the aluminum or pot metal collars break and not hard to replace.
Since ur a dodge man I'd be interested in the c10
I learned to drive stick on a blue 69 C-10 optioned just like that one. Daily drove it for over a year.
Do more with this truck please!!!
Great job. Good to see a Chevrolet
Having owned one...that 3 on the tree linkage was always bad. The bushings would go out...take off hard in first, go for second and it would lock between gears. Great motor...great truck..but put a floor shifter in it.
At least you got it started
The floor shifters are still available pretty easily Mr gasket makes one hurst makes one. You used to be able to get one right off the shelf at AutoZone. I think summit has a universal 3sp shifter too.
Sounds like the Exhaust manifold is broke on how loud the Exhaust is @Dylan McCool
Pretty cool old truck. Didn't seem like the frame was rusted real bad. She would be a driver.

You can get everything to put a floor shift into that from LMC truck. You can order it straight off their website.
Another good video!!!!
I love straight 6 engines :) i have an '84 c10 with an older 250, like a '74 or '75. It runs like a top.
That is why I love those straight 6 engines. They are just hard to kill. Glad to hear her run. I saw the fire truck in the background. Any more content coming on it?
Heck yeah what a awesome truck!!!
