Mendilibar, he won europa league with sevilla last year, hes in the conference league final with olympiacos this year after clapping emery's aston villa taking them to the club's first ever european final, and I know greek league isn't one of the top leagues, but olympiacos is the only greek side that is fighting for both a european cup and their league title until the last game basically, and its all thanks to that man. Sure PL is a different beast entirely, but Man U isn't really in a position where they can afford Pep or Ancelotti

Always see identical comments to this at the end of every manager cycle at United. Fast forward a year or so after the manager is replaced and the same people go "they should have given him more time" when the same thing happens again where the players don't perform.

As a Utd fan - i'm extremely aware that no matter who the manager is (pep, southgate, or ETH) - Utd are doomed to finish 8th-5th for the next few seasons no matter what. Pep could not get top 4 with this squad and medical department, absolutely not. What on earth is he going to do with AWB at LB?? Hence it pretty much does not matter who the manager is. Just spend the next 18 months fixing the long list of issues at the club above the manager (recruitment setup, director level football vision and coaching, commercial side, medical dept, training facilities, stadium) THEN plug in the right manager along with a star player or two. Until then, whoever it is- is essentially a caretaker. Just steering the ship while the ship itself receives significant repairs. We are basically where liverpool were when they had Jay Spearing. Or where arsenal were when they realised they needed to freeze out Ozil etc.

@@joew7854 I did, but I knew as long as the glazers controlled the club there was no hope in anything, it was pure despair. Just waiting for the club to go bust! Thankfully INEOs have control now and appear atleast half-competent. With them making decisions we can start to have ambition for the future.

These players have gotten multiple managers sacked. The players and the people above the manager need changing first.

This narrative that the same group of players have gotten every manager sacked over the last 10 years is nonsense. 15 players in the squad currently have only played under ETH at United. 12 have played under both ETH and Ole. 6 played under Jose. And 3 played under LVG. Can’t use that fan channel excuse anymore.

It's literally the managers job to get the players in line, get them working hard in training and getting them performing on the pitch. If the manager cant do that then he'd out of his depth.

As an Arsenal fan I obviously want Southgate to manage either Chelsea or United (sorry 😉) but as a pure football fan, Southgate deserves to be nowhere near a PL side. He does not have the credentials and he is a catastrophic flop. He's like a league one manager. Emery fully deserves a big move, but I want to see him stay with Villa. As for Emery, hes a solid manager. Loved having him at Arsenal although, it's sad how it ended. Right guy but at the wrong time i think. What he's done with Villa is incredible. My Dad is a Villa fan, so I've watched Villa A LOT in my lifetime and this version of Villa is probably the best I've seen in terms of an on-field identity.

Being a Chelsea fan i hope Southgate is chosen, i love a good laugh.

Jennings is right the problem United fans think they need to be top even when their team is poor .look at Arsenal they went out of Europe football they reset themselves United fans can't accept that and that why they will kip struggling.

What? They are the biggest club in the world even Pep would love to manage them, wouldn't surprise me if Klopp has already made a deal after his year off to become manager. Lastly, and more importantly, he is currently working in the UK so work permit shouldn't be an issue too.

I love it how folk like Rory, with no in depth knowledge of UTD, make these arguments for and against which manager can fix things. The PLAYERS are the problem. Until 60% of the squad is replaced with better, stronger players, no manager in the world can make UTD competitive. Take Southgate at Chelsea if you think he's a decent candidate.

I feel the only fix for this club is having fergie walk into the dressing room unplanned and teaching this group of players a lesson of professionalism and integrity. I feel it would wake the players up and humble them. Would love to see it.

I am sorry, and feel free to give me stick in what I about to say, but why does Zidane's name get linked to big club jobs like Man Utd and one point Liverpool. Firstly, he has expressed no interest in managing in England and doesn't speak English. And secondly when he was at Real Madrid he inherited a very good and experienced squad from Don Carlo Ancelotti. I question whether Zidane has the tactical acumen as Ancelotti, Guardiola, Klopp and even Arteta.

Southgate will most definitely get them relegated. As an Arsenal fan I would love it so very much if they do end up appointing him

I might be wrong, and appointing someone like Tuchel might be the fix we need. But if we did sack Ten Hag now, two years after his appointment, it would simply repeat the cycle we've had since Fergie left. How many two-year stints of mediocrity until we stick with a manager long-term? What if keeping the manager, and forcing the players to work for ETH, is the solution?

I think the new low is the confirmation of the depths of toxicity in how some players view Rasmus and how they actively play around him. I have never heard anything like it. And I do think there is some truth to it as all season there have been complaints about them not passing to Rasmus, not passing the ball down thru the channels. They are actively working against the club 🤬

Sadly, logistically it just dosnt make sense. INEOS are making logical decisions (so far). Hiring Southgate effective from late July (which realistically is the earliest he could start) makes absolutely zero sense. Southgate also rubbished the links yesterday, when there is no reason why he would lie about it.
