DEBATE: Picking Man United's Next Manager! | Sunday Vibes

Спорт

On this week's Sunday Vibes, we run through our shortlist of managers to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford if he loses his job. With a lack of elite managerial talent available, reports this week suggest that Jim Ratcliffe and co. are sounding out England coach Gareth Southgate, but what do we think?
With Thomas Tuchel almost certainly leaving his post at Bayern Munich, is he the man to turn fortunes around at Old Trafford? Or should United be looking at someone younger like Ruben Amorim, who at one stage looked the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
We also have a few wildcard suggestions from the Bundesliga and Serie A - watch on to find out who they are!

Doesn't seem to be much interaction in the comment section anymore on these videos but I'll say what I think anyway. One thing that frustrates me about people analysing Ten Hag this season is that they expect a modern attractive style of play from Ten Hag while Evans, Casemiro and Maguire are our main CB's. They can only play a deep defensive line due to lack of pace. Then what? Oh apparently, Ten Hag should have changed things so we play a more defensive style and sured up the weak defence. So which one is it? Implement his own playing style of attractive high-pressing Dutch style football? Or sure up defensively and play more counter-attacking? Something United managers have been lamented for in the past few years. What is the solution because NOTHING is being offered?

I think the united medical team is not up to the standard of top top premier league medical teams and I believe INEOS wants to invest in the new upcoming replacement to Ten Hag and changes to the squad such as Michael Olise and a top-quality centre back like Todibo or even Araujo, which is a bit unrealistic and a defensive midfielder to fill in for Casemiro after he takes the cash at Saudi like Amadou Onana, Palacios could leave Leverkusen, Joao Gomes

Ten Hag has to play a different back line every week with midfielders consistently played in defense. Is it shocking to anyone a pairing of Maguire and Evans/Casemiro doesn’t do well? We didn’t score as many goals as we wanted with our only striker being a 20 year old in his first season in the league are we surprised? I think people think Ten Hag was such a failure this season because they had ridiculous expectations

Last year - manager designs tactics around team of misfits to focus on results - "he has no style of play" This year - manager introduces his original style of play that people were calling for him to be fired for after two games because the team couldn't and still can't play comfortably with the ball (missed passes and possession errors are not coaching issues - these are quality issues) Ten Hag is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He's brought us to three finals in two seasons, 3rd place finish in league and to champions league. The whole team has had a disaster season. But there is hope in youth. Look at the young players being brought in and coming through. Look at how ETH has influenced youth teams (a goal he set out on arrival) There's no upgrades on the market. Keep him for another 6 months and let him have a fit team with an improved background team and culture. And get rid of the deadwood and bloated wages.

I hope Man Utd do sack him because we could really use him back at Ajax, though with our current situation that might not work out either. The entire structure of the club that was in place when Ten Hag was here has disintegrated, and we've yet to find out whether the people we've just put in place will manage to bring back some semblance of organization. And it's this lack of organization that is exactly what I think is failing Ten Hag at Utd, as it has doomed many other managers with proven track records that have joined the club over the past decade. There's a reason Van Gaal advised Ten Hag not to go to Utd after all, and I'd say he's been proven correct... Even with Ten Hag having an excellent first season, there were already a few issues with his management, mostly off the pitch, which have exacerbated now that this season hasn't delivered the desired results. Most importantly his transfer dealings, as signing Antony for 100 million was the stupidest move he could've made. Casemiro, while good in his first season, was also too much of a short term option for Man Utd's project even if he had still been good this season or manages to recover next season. Then this season Mount, Amrabat and Onana not delivering on expectations is not a good look for Ten Hag's transfer record. And if I could've seen it coming based on only 1 out of 5 signings that were made largely on Ten Hag's input working out at Ajax, Man Utd should've seen it coming as well, and should've ensured other more capable people were in place to handle transfers instead. Then there were the Ronaldo- and Sancho-situations, which were not necessarily Ten Hag's fault, but were exacerbated by the coarse way he can come across. With Ronaldo being a crybaby in that embarrassing interview, he came out of it on top, but when his relationship with Sancho broke down similarly, I don't think his handling of either situation is looked back on as fondly now. Had someone higher up been able to handle these situations before they got this out of hand, I think that would've helped Ten Hag as well. I'm not going to say I'm certain Ten Hag would've succeeded had this structure been in place when he'd arrived, and I don't know if he's the right man for the job from this point onwards, but even if he isn't I think it's important Man Utd puts the structure needed to succeed in place first before thinking of hiring another manager and starting the same cycle all over again.

I do sort of agree, but at the same time, Tuchel won the league last season in his first season and in his second season the "drop off" is finishing 2nd to a Leverkusen side that have (to this point) gone unbeaten in all competitions and managed to get to the Champions League semi finals compared to Ten Hag falling to 8th in the league and going out bottom at the group stages in the Champions League in a very easy group. Ten Hags real mitigating circumstances are the sheer amount of injuries that United have had this season, but even then, for a lot of people the biggest issue with him is that two years in there's still no signs of a clear style of play. Ange, Howe, De Zerbi and Poch have all seen their squads decimated with injuries/absences throughout the season but all of their teams still have a clear identity in how they play. The only identity United seem to have is that they're porous and allow nearly 20 shots at their goal every game.

Play the youngsters. Let them have a run. Tell me, Mengi would not be good enough foelr now? Same with Bennet, Fish or Tyler Fredricson. Try them. They are a free punt. If they fail; it's okay. Move them on. LvG did that in so many positions. Rashford, Keane x2, McNair, Blackett etc. His issues are beyond the injuries. Our injuries as bad as they are, are only truly bad at 2 positions; decimating our CBs and LBs. No where near as bad as LVGs or say Sheffield United or Newcastle this season. Like Arnold above him, who is already rightly fired; he made our club went from 0 debt to other teams to 340m to be paid over 5 years. Arnold and ETH are responsible for it. As this is being 1/3 of our debt; this is also 1/3 of our interest payment. I.e. this makes it £85m paid to other clubs every year for the next 5 years. And don't go after our revenue; it is 3rd (or 2nd if you do not believe City's) at a quarter billion. #2 Biggest issue is on his stupid tactics that he insists on. Everyone can see that his 6-8-10 CMs are not working. It leaves Casemiro or Mainoo vs the world. Go to a 8-8-8 ala the 90s Italians or 6-6-10 in the 2000s. And in game, he simply is not flexible, except Liverpool at Anfield. #3 his signings. 3 signings good and right. Licha, Christian and Case, why was Mount and Onana signed; and the rest were utter garbage signings. 4) Him falling out. He only got legs to stand for Sancho. Clashing with CR7, Varane and Casemiro;all who in their combined 5 decades of professional careers never clashed with any other manager... SO MANY new faces and minds coming in at the top of the club with their own ideas, they need time to be able to get on the same page and formulate a plan for where they want to take the club. EtH, yes he's lost the plot a bit this season, but he is a good manager. Give him the summer to reset, the confidence of backing and my god hire THE BEST medical team and give him another year. Best of 3, he's had one good, one bad season. It gives the new regime time to settle in and can be using that time to draw up a proper, unrushed, shortlist with a clear plan in mind should EtH not work out next season.

Manchester United should really consider Maurizio Sarri. An experienced manager who has managed other big teams (Napoli, Chelsea, Juventus, Lazio), has Premier League experience, wants a return to the Premier League and doesn’t currently have a job. He won’t be ‘overwhelmed’ by the job and he is a great tactician who has improved every team he’s been at getting them to be defensively solid and keeping hold of the ball, which this Manchester United team desperately need to improve on.

@@mahmoodhassan-ei1ig One signing in particular hasn't worked ie Antony. With regards to Mount he's been regularly injured and so has Malacia. Personally didn't quite understand the Mount signing anyway and getting a new goalkeeper wasn't a priority. Then there's Casemiro who was great last season and this year has shown that perhaps he's past it. There isn't really a particular style of play agreed. It's really rather manic and disorganised.

How can you sack ETH? Basically not given any of the players he wanted. The list of players he's wanted is incredibly long and the players he was given instead are terrible. Most injuries in a season for the club in its entire history. Last seasons two pots candidates have both downed tools and their performance hasnt been even half of their previous season. The spend has not been near enough. The sqaud after Ole/Ragnick would have needed 309 million worth of talent to comepete, but then Pogba, Cavani,Ronaldo and De Gea all left for free. Club sale, Antony case, Greenwood case, Sancho issues all creating negativity and unpredictability. All that whilst dealing with the goalkeeper adaption, which has taken every new goalkeeper at United a year or 2, or they never make it. Next season with new smart and cheap signings, Onana only making 40% of the mistakes, key players back from injury, more expirienced Mainoo and Garancho, and United will easily get top 4.

Dismissed by everyone in seconds, then spend a whole 5 minutes discussing. Including letting the Chelsea fan drone on without ever asking would he have him as Chelsea manager. No passion, no push back. What a waste of time & oxygen. Switched it off.
