I was at the White Sox game in 76 when Harry and Jimmy Peirsol broadcast the game from the center field bleachers where they had their setup. By the seventh inning, Harry actually had made a pyramid of empty Budweiser bottles stacked up and was singing away. It was the Bicentennial summer, serious party mode.

This is one of the best KZread channel's. Amazing work!
I love how David Letterman is doing the equivalent of me pulling up Will Ferrell Harry Caray impersonations on KZread but to Will himself.
I was under the impression that athlete was two syllables.
I'm sure my fellow Chicago fans recognized this. He keeps jumping from the Cubs to the St. Louis Cardinals. He did do 10 yrs with the Chicago White Sox prior to the Cubs. That gave him 25 years in Chicago. The same amount of time as his St Louis gig. Plus he was never let go in Chicago. Chicagoland loved him! Even if you were a Cubs fan as I was, Harry Carry was always known when he did the Sox. I think with the Cubs he was on WGN channel 9 in Chicago. With the Sox it started on UHF 32 or 44, but I believe it eventually was on both UHF and VHF. If your not familiar with UHF and VHF, no worries, just ask your parents or grandparents. They will know. 😎
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I went back and played the beginning again to be sure; the theme music as Will entered was "Basketball Jones" by Cheech & Chong.

I went to a Cubs Rockies game at the old mile high back in 97. I was sitting right above Harry’s announcement booth. In the 8th I hung upside down and was looking Harry right in the eyes, of course said “hi Harry, love ya man” about 4’ in front of him. He was on air, I was drunk, so was he. I said hi upside down, Harry looked at me , said hiya. Then shook his head like it wasn’t happening, turned and got back to calling the game. I spent my jr. High and high school watching the Cubs on WGN. we only had 4 stations and only the Cubs as a MLB team. He’s a Bud man and a Cub fan. Thing is, he drank bourbon in the booth, not Bud.

Twice Letterman said that Carey was with the Cubs and before that he was with St. Louis. I guess he did not know that Carey spent a couple of years across town with the Sox prior to going to the Cubs.
Back when late night television was worth watching
November 29,2019. And the Cubs eventually won the World Series... Harry Carey would certainly be proud. Will Ferrill (if I had spelled his name correctly) had done an outstanding job as Harry, too. Back in 1986,I had been much younger back in those good `ol days. No one ever would've thought the Cubs would win the big one. But back then,in *those* days, the Cubs had been a different team. Not now. Harry Carey had nothing to do with it. I'd never had been a Cubs fan ; I had never had much interest in pro baseball - MLB - ; even when the Astros won it........ But thanks for the memories, anyway,Harry.
His impression starting at 8:04 had me rolling! Hearing David laughing in the background made it even more funny!

Beautiful juist beautiful. Miss you Harry.
To my way of thinking Will is the more versatile and funnier Chevy Chase for SNL and the screen. Chase can write and he can elicit laughs as far as his persona can take it. Will's persona is more v versatile in my humble opinion and just as brilliant as Chase in his best situations, BUT, he takes it to other great places more and often. Will has given us a lot over many years and is still top-drawer good. Now, the actual Harry Caray w/ Dave interview is absolutely the best. I'm not even a Cubs fan and he's my man as far as baseball announcers go. A real gem that can't be replicated ever again.
The cracker jack bit actually happened, Will paraphrased a 5 minute tirade.
