I turn 60 next month. When I was 5 years old I remember my grandma pulling in our driveway with a brand spanking new red 1968 Cougar. She was showing my mom how the headlights went up and down. She'd take me and my sister to the movies, and shopping, and just cruising around in the summer with the radio on. I specifically remember songs from the Doors, Petula Clark, and The 5th Dimension on the radio. Looking back now, guess I had a pretty cool grandma.

Great video here Kevin and Angus!! With a lot of antique manufacturers (most often Fords on the channel), whether it be vehicles with wider tolerances within the valvetrain or the cast iron components or even just simple engineering designs, it is a testament to the builders that they were indeed built tough. Those 351 Windsors' live up to that definition.

Your solutions regarding the mechanics, electrical and fluids are phenomenal and your insights are far above many people I've seen. I grew up in a family of mechanics. My three Mercedes mechanic uncles took my 1984 Ford Ranger truck completely apart one weekend as a present to me and at 16 years old, if I wanted to drive, I had to put it together. I once replaced an alternator on the Williamsburg bridge in under 20 minutes, in winter in the middle of the bridge, blocking a lane. I love your videos. Keep it up!

A friend I know bought a 1969 Mercury Cougar. His is the XR-7, which is a luxurious version. Built in November 5th of 1968 at the Dearborn assembly plant. A California car that has no rust and was sold by Bob Phillipi Lincoln/Mercury in Oakland, California on April 18th, 1969. It's in good shape but just needed to be cleaned up to be driven around. The cars has all the toys IE air conditioning, rear window defogger, power windows, power locks, power steering, rally wheels, vinyl roof, AM/FM stereo radio, automatic transmission. Engine is a 351 Windsor with 4 barrel carburetor, dual exhaust, disc brakes. Color is Wimbledon white with black vinyl roof and black leather interior.

Mercury Cougars have a special place in my heart. My very first car in 1975 was a 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7 midnight blue with silver blue leather interior with woodgrain dash and every available option including power everything including windows. It had a 302. I had a friend of mine that had a 1970 with a 428cj, sadly it had been hit really hard in the backend. When I was home on leave I test drove a 67 Cougar GTE that had a 427 four speed manual from the factory. I should have bought it, I had the cash, one that got away.

Stuck clutches. Sometimes if you get the engine hot, so the flywheel gets hot, then drive round and round with the pedal wedged down they'll eventually break free. I've done this with tractors that have been sitting a long time with some success. The flywheel expands with heat at a different rate than the clutch linings do, sometimes it's enough to break them free.

One would think he would know better. Reserve the brake cleaner for the purpose it was intended. I cringe every time he does this nonsense.

Usually, we put the trans in the HIGHEST gear possible, 4th or 5th and try the shock method. You want to put load on the output side of things (clutch disk, trans, etc) not on the power side.

This car really is a "Cougar" to you guys. It's older than both of you! I used to work on Cougars in high school Auto shop in 1975 and 1976. I remember the rear tail lights ran off of a motor that turned the lights on sequentially and the front head lights opened with a vacuum pump. Finding the vacuum leak was a challenge!

Love the car, love the process. Freaked-out by the wind chimes and overcast sky in the drive-around shots near the end; thought I was watching the prelude to an ‘80s/‘90s made-for-TV nuclear attack movie 😆 Big Mustang fan so Mercury Cougars hold a special place in my heart. Great to see another one have a secure future 🤟🏼
