Well the paint would have to go. Got some serious cancer in the back quarters which is common. Gotta figure out how to unstick the brakes and would probably require either a rebuild or new calibers at the least and might as well get new rotors (does the 944 have drums?). Cheapest solution for the ignition would be a replacement as well as door locks and hatch. Center console is shot and would have to be replaced. Wheels will need a recoat at best. The back bumper is damaged and will have to be fixed. After that, you would be best to replace everything made of rubber under the hood and chassis. At that point, you could start to address mechanical issues that are no doubt to be found. Then, you'd have to ask yourself, is it really "original"? I mean, if you are a "matching numbers" person, more power to ya. Just the term "all original" doesn't hold value to a lot of people as, over time, and especially with a restoration, it is damn near impossible to have an "original" car without stretching the word unto lost meaning. Again, if it is your bag to love on some vehicles that are as close to showroom floor new as you can get them, that's great. You do you. Different strokes and all that. But between time, money, safety, and just sheer convenience of the job and the finished product let alone future maintenance it is rarely if ever worth it in my book to strive for a purest version of originality either by the end result or by the price tag afterward. This also isn't to say it wouldn't be a crime to mod the hell out of a car like this that is seemingly restorable shape... just that striving for purity often has several levels at best and has never been my thing.
This appears to be a rare factory delivered car in excellent condition and worth keeping together and restoring. Notice it has power steering which is extremely rare on an 1983 944. The engine is a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder making approximately 150hp.

Ahhh, the resilience of Porsche. Every detail, still almost flawless. I don't care what color it is, the details were not sacrificed and that's where the beauty lies. 😅
This car has been somebodys dream car but was left abandoned. It deserves another chance on the roads
You can check compression by connecting a battery and then jumping 12 volts to the starter solenoid. The starter will still turn the motor over, it just won’t start. Make sure you’re taking the compression readings with the throttle body fully open. Before cranking it with the starter, I’d pull all the spark plugs and put a capfull of oil in each cylinder and hand spin the motor a few times. That will help bring the rings around and make sure it’s not being cranked dry. Lastly you’re supposed to check compression hot. When you check it cold your numbers will all be a little low, but you’re mostly looking to see they’re all consistent… on a tired old motor that hasn’t ran in years I’d say within 20% of each other is fine. For a 944 I think you’ll want between 110-135 cold. Target would be 150 on a hot motor.

Definitely, restore it! The Porsche in gold color is so nice, and the interior is just really cool. Bring it back to life. It’s like seeing a classic we don’t get to see anymore. Just like it, a travel back in time. Also, the gold color in my opinion matches the overall Porsche color wheel. 😌 love it!
+1 for restore, love the gold, brown interior 😍 soak the seat rails in PlusGas and leave for a week, they should free up eventually 🤞
Next time you might consider using soft straps in the holes on the wheels to pull it, instead of doing bumper damage as you did, two straps, hooked together center of the car to the winch hook, no damage. Harbor Freight has cheap ones, rated pretty high, and different lengths that would save you time effort, and damage.

Watching WD detailing is awesome, i like to do car detailing interiors of cars such as mine and my family's vehicles for money on my off time from work. Car detailing amazes me for a new career opportunity
Really like your videos. My favorite color for a vehicle is silver. Scratches are easy to conceal and doesn't look dirty even when it is. The car has potential. I think worth saving. If it spins, it'll run. The rust can be cut out and body work done.
Omg…beautiful classic car. I don’t see rust or damage. Paint looks good & I think should restore back n get it running

The Porsche 944 has gained a dedicated following among car enthusiasts and collectors, and it is often considered a classic sports car from the 1980s. Its timeless design and driving experience continue to make it a sought-after model in the used car market. Nice to see that it was restored. 😍❤
Gold is a good color. My first vehicle was a two tone Gold on cream color 1984 Chevrolet K20 diesel pickup truck. Side note. Please restore this car. It deserves to live again!!!❤
That 944 is definitely worthy of restoration. My 928 was a basket case before I did a semi resto on mine. I can't believe how nice the interior and seats are in that 944. I don't think I've ever seen such nice stock cloth seats in the 80s porsches. They are normally totally worn or tore up. That car spent a lot of time in a garage before being abandoned.

@@EllenTheArtist Theres a lot to do before starting an engine that sat as long as this one has. Will need to go thru the whole fuel system, number 1 is to drop the gas tank and clean it out and flush all lines. Didn't pay much attention on the fuel delivery is carb or injection. If CIS, it get's expensive real quick as you really need to R&R all of it. There is no such thing as a cheap Porsche, lol.
These films are odly relaxing, watching years of dirt being professionally stripped away with appropriate chemicals and cleaners. I'd definitely keep the car intact and leave the engine alone. Sort the panel rust and lacquer, brakes, discs etc and get it back on the road. I remember these cars when new. Radically different to the iconic 911, but still great on the eye. Thanks for an interesting film.
I think the brown and gold is a perfect fit for this model. I would keep and get this one running and use your other car as parts car.
From what you showed us, this car looks too good to be a donor. It will be interesting to see how this progresses. And I love gold cars, although my favorites are the brighter 1970s golds.
Love the gold on this car. To be honest, the 944 is by far my fav Porsche. But white and green look great on this body style as well.
You're crazy if you want to pull the motor out of this car it's too nice get the VIN number go to the dealership and get a new key keep looking for an engine for your other car then you will have two nice ones
This car is beautiful! I'd use the one with the stuck motor as a parts car, or sell it and keep this one! Fix this one!! Keep it! Drive it! :)
This is actually a rare Porsche that you don't see anymore on the road, unless it's owned by a car fanatic or sitting in a car museum on display or in a collector's garage. But aside from the rarity of the car itself the gold does look pretty decent for it. The most overused colours though are Blue, Red, Black, White and Grey. I personally like when cars have unique colours, like Yellow, Green, Purple, Cyan or Midnight Blue.
Such a Nice car and colour! I actually love the colour both inside and outside! It should be saved. 😎👍🇩🇰

This car was outside? There are no dead critters! That’s amazing.
There’s plenty of ways to try before you cut the seats out.and as far as the compression, get a button starter and go to auto-zone and borrow a compression gauge.
This one would be best for restoration (and maybe the other one with the seized motor used as the parts car, lol) the body looks salvageable and repairable. The gold color would have been a much rarer option and would make it worth much more, after restoration as an original 944 ...
I’m an ex detailer too, retired now, l always thought Gold cars popped, liked them however my favourite colour of all time is BMW Techno Violet, what a gorgeous colour ❤

I always loved the 944. IMO the only colour for a 944 is black. I've seen a few examples and they look spectacular. Great clean guys. I love every one you do.
It's a 2.5 I-4 and it needs the timing belt changed before attempting to start it. Also, much too nice to use as a donor. Love the gold, perfect '80s hue
C7P Firestorm red, used to have a Scion FR-S in this color. Beautiful.

If it were up to me i would totally restore it to it's former glory. It's a really nice looking Porsche, plus the gold color is quite rare on these cars "at least i think" but looks great on it nonetheless
I owned a 1984 944 for 18 years. They’re fun cars. This one looks to just need some TLC to make it a great driver. It would be ashamed to do all this work just to gut it. Recommend you get it running and driving and do an LS swap with the blown engine in your other 944. There’s plenty of videos on how to do that.
I’ve owned 3 944’s and regretted selling every one. Truly fantastic, well-built cars with an incredibly balanced driving experience.
Any vehicle can look good in silver. My favorite
Beautiful car. Great job of cleaning guys. Have an awesome day.
I still can't figure out why this car ended up in the salvage yard. It looks savable. Big question for me is if the automatic transmission has failed. That might have been the reason it was taken off the road. I like the gold; it's more unique than most of the 944s you see on the road today.
My son’s first car was a 1986 944, red. It sat in a front yard of an older woman, who was widowed. Her husband was in the middle of an engine swap when he passed away. Anyway, that car sat under a pine tree for a number of years before my son bought it from her… doing yard work, dump runs and other odds and ends for her. That red paint in that car came back to life and looked amazing with very little work, a good wash and some spray wax. He sold the car for the value of the fusch rims, and bought an f150.
I had a toyota 1979 gold and was repainted white. My favorite is silver , no scratches covers dirt easier and easy to touch up.
I've owned 2 944s and loved them. I still think they look modern, although the insides are dated; one was white (boring) the other Guards Red that looked amazing once paint corrected with a ceramic on top. Because of the aluminum body rust isn't much of an issue and using mostly Audi/VW parts means that most spares are pretty cheap. I'd love to find one like this and spend time bringing it back to life.

Porsches original outstanding colours at that point of time late 70's till mid 80's metallic maroon.
Looks great considering it was in a field for 15 years, defo a keeper for the right person with Time and Money/

Looks like a 1982 Clydesdale Special! Rarer than a snowflake in a furnace!
I have watched many autos being detailed, and I think the dry ice method is the best and least destructive.
I would keep that gold car cause it’s actually pretty clean and you could sell it and buy a crate motor for your Porsche and still have money left over
I would have called a locksmith to make a new key.
That gold is awesome!! Anything other than gray scale or fire engine red!
Growing up in the 80’s I absolutely love the Porsche 944. They were all over the roads when I was a kid, and now you rarely see them.
That car has potential. If your mechanic is any good why not try to get that one running. Interior looked in decent shape.
I have to agree that this beauty should have a new life of its own. A perfect Molly Ringwald car. :)
The floorboards look good still after all these years.😊❤️
I'd love to know the back story about this 944 since these were fairly pricey cars when they were new. Personally, I would try and get it running because few cars say 80s style as successfully as a 944 Porsche. This car, and its gold color, screams big hair, glitter, and Calvin Klein Obession colonge!

I detailed cars 15 years ago and we were always taught to start on the top and work your way down. I watch detailers today and many do not start at the top, so just curious, has the industry found new research to do it differently?
Why don’t you just get this one running instead of all the work swapping engines🤗🤗
I'm curious to know why it was abandoned. Automatic transmission on a car like this is definitely not my style. I really dig the vids...keep 'em coming!!
The clear coat has peeled off the hood and not peeled off the roof (even though they were both exposed to sunlight), due to engine heat. Over the years the engine heat contributed to the breakdown/weakening of the clear coat. The sunlight finished it off...
Jim Rockford's firebird(s) sure looked good in gold.
I’m surprised it ended up in the junk yard. It’s body condition appears to be amazingly rust-free for a car of that age from northeast Ohio. Although that gold exterior isn’t my first choice for that car, it isn’t bad. It’s biggest deficiency is the automatic transmission. It should definitely be saved.
Would love to see what you eventually do with it. Will there be a part 2? If I could, I would salvage it. It actually looks great after the clean. I know we can't smell it and you'd need to strip it down to find out what else needs replacing but it appears to be complete. I would go for the salvage and staying with the gold.
Amazing just like the background track while washing the tyres....

A friend of mine bought one just like it about 10 year's ago, but was white, V-8 Porsche, was amazed at much of the design, and engineering that went into this work of art, fyi as of 1983, this was the fastest production car, and the darn thing had tubes in the electronics for goodness sake, hope ot all works out for you, a true gem
