Wild Poland - Europe's Nature Reserve - Full Nature Documentary

Ойын-сауық

Poland is one of Europe's largest countries by land area, and much of that is made up of stunning nature reserves. No other country in Europe has more square kilometres of national parks. Explore huge wandering dunes on the Baltic, thousands of lakes in the dream landscape of Masuria, gigantic river systems of Biebrza and Narew, mystical primeval forests and the rugged crags of the Southern Mountains. Poland's landscapes are as diverse as they are endless.

But my dad was only six when he came over, my grandfather was the one who told me stories. Sadly, he made the decision to drop a lot of the traditions to "become Australian". It was just after world war 2, and Australia was less forgiving towards Europeans who weren't English in those days. He did teach me to fish for trout, and forage for mushrooms and herbs though - which is why he would talk about the beautiful forests and countryside in Poland. He loved Australia, but I know he deeply missed Poland.

    Polish Bison was hunted for sport by Germans to almost extinction. After we gain independence we rebuild this animals until 1939 when Germans start hunt them down again. It is miracle that we still got them. Funny fact about 5 years ago one bison go throu to the Germany by Odra river and were killed next day. That was big deal in Poland.

    @@kleopatra6234 You got something completely wrong. These are two different species: "Bos bison" and "Bos bonasus" In the reconstruction of the European bison species "Bison bonasus caucasicus" and "Bos bonasus bonasus" took part, but not the American bison! Maybe you mean a hybrid: Żubrobizon ? Un 1924, there were only 54 European bison in the world, mainly in zoo gardens or held by european aristocrats. Only some of them were suitable for restoration. For example, a bull named Borusse was brought to Poland from Germany. Of course, there were also hybrids of żubr mixed with bison , but mainly lowland European bison were used with some admixture of the Caucasian subspecies.

  • @cetus4449

    @cetus4449

    It was the wars that brought about the extinction of the Żubr species. During World War I, European bison were killed in the Białowieża Forest by German soldiers, Russian partisans and Polish or Belarusian poachers. Another thing is that the Germans constantly show unusual bloodthirstiness towards any Żubr. Just a few years ago, German hunters killed a Polish żubr named "Wędrowniczek"( a "Wanderer"), which swam across the Oder river. It was an peaceful animal, which in Poland was perceived as a regional mascot. Scared by the sight of a large wild animal German citizens called the police and hunters who, after killing the gentle animal boasted to the media, posing for photos with the severed, blood-stained head of this noble animal. Bloody German barbarians!

My Grandard had a horse ( not to plough anymore as this one done with the contracted in tracktor ) , storks nest in his back yeard , black storks ( realy rare) nest in the forest nearby, he was using scythe to mow the grass around the house . I dont think I could ever express the feeling of absolute childlike innocence, safety and buitiful closenest with the nature that I have experienced on the farm. This was 30 years ago and even now when I drive throgh the countrisde and can smell and see it , it brings the beutiful and vivid memories. Pictures of nature are absolutely beautiful. At the same time, as a long time immigrant in Anglo -American country, I must say that Germanic and British people still have a tendency to portray Eastern Europeans as backward and primitive peoples. They still can't shake off their old colonial snobbery and "übermenschen" tendencies to portray different cultures, especially Eastern European Slavic peoples. In 2012, when this film was made, Polish villagers were fully mechanized. One can hardly find a farmer with a horse drawn carriage and a scythe. Poland is beautiful with stunning nature and modern technologies to deal with the resources.

    I live close to the Polish capital in Mazovia, in the nearby forest we have elk, lynx, wild boar, roe deer, foxes. Foxes and elks most often roam our streets, they are not disturbed by buses and cars, we have mild winters compared to earlier years, you can't even go sleigh ride, after 2 days the snow melts, it was always coldest in February, the temperature dropped to -20 degrees Celsius, I do not remember such temperatures for a long time, when my children complain about -10 degrees in winter, I laugh, because I was probably born in the worst winter and in childhood, I had a lot of snow in winter, unfortunately the climate has changed.Now we have to go to the mountains so that the children can go crazy in the snow.
