The Tatra Mountains - Wild at Heart | Full Documentary Episode 1
Ойын-сауық
One of the oldest forests in Europe grows on the Tatra's slopes. Nowhere else in central Europe do so many bears live so close together. But what is it that makes this environment so attractive to large predators?

My son and his Slovak wife and four children live in the High Tatras. She is a member of a conservation programme for wild life and apart from other things, she is on a team who once a year is their job to count goats in order to see how they are flourishing. Many bears stroll down to the hamlet where they live and try and raid the bins when they wake up and are hungry but there is still deep snow around. My son often films them right outside his door. The Slovak National Park is also a marvel of nature and species. All four of my grandchildren are expert skiers and skaters as my daughter in law used to be a professional ski instructor. I am due to go and visit them in a couple of week’s time and temperatures can go down to -20 up there, so am all ready with my thermals and thick socks! I’m looking forward to some clean alpine air away from London!

One of the best mountain documentary films I've seen.
This shows that not every country found it necessary to destroy all their Forrest's, rivers and wild animals!
This series is incredible and reveals Europe's wildlife and landscape treasures.
A beautifully produced video, with a narrator who speaks clearly and slowly enough. No harsh or loud music, love it! Thank you for helping get thru a difficult time by sharing this view of a part of the world i will never visit. 😊

Why this narrator pronounce the word "bear" and sound as if "beer"..I feel it a bit awkward.
Thank you for the experience, the filming was great, thanks to all who participated
I was introduced to the Tatras by Slovakian friend in the summer of 1992. I returned during the last week of the same year and spent the year end in these mountains. On New Year's Eve, I saw out not only 1992 but the former country of Czecho-Slovakia and saw in 1993 and the new Slovak Republic. A most beautiful setting for a historic event.

There are so many amazingly beautiful places in Europe. We don't have to go far to see beauty, we have it all here. Thanks to the people that dedicate their lives to preserve them.
This is great. I'm loving learning about and seeing images of our European natural areas. The information about the effect of the flood on the riverbed is fascinating: how it created new sand banks which provided bare soil for willows to grow.
When I was young I used to think if running from a bear I’d climb a tree. Imagine my surprise to learn they are better tree climbers than I am lol

What a beautiful place.the narrator asks early on "what does this place have that makes the bears want to live here?" I think personally that it is what the place doesn't have that makes the bears want to live there. Humans!!! great work and cheers from NZ 🇳🇿

Excellent documentary...thank you for taking the time to explain the wildlife habitats and behavior, as well as the various flora. I wasn't aware there was such an area reserved for bears in Europe, so well done! Here in the states, bear populations have become so abundant in some areas they are sometimes considered a nuisance, which can be expected, as they are attracted to trash cans and bins.

Cattles attacked? yes. Humans attacked by bears? Yes, thats the nature. Am i afraid of them? Yes but it never stop me visit their habitant :) Mostly lot of people dont want to accept them but they dont understand, its a bears land.. we have cities and willagies, they have forests. The said about the growth of the trees from trash is not entirely true. A tree releases special acids which dissolve the stone. Then it starts feeding off the mineral substances that can be thus absorbed. It's far more complex than one would expect on first sight.

All wild nature is just superficially beautiful! Look what happened to the poor young male bear that got killed by an older male. Also, the deer that broke its leg and died, the mother bird that lost most of its chicks, the fish that got killed by a Kingfisher and an otter! There is nothing glorious about nature up close!!!😢😮

@@mm34639 I don't think the strong wind you mentioned (was it in 1998?) Or so, has anything to do with climate change. River Bela the only free running river in Slovakia only around few km long flowing down from High Tatra mountains shown in this documentary must had been filmed in 1997. That was the year with the abnormal rain fall which has amended the river bad. Accidentally I was there fly fishing Bela as I was nearly every Sommer weekends in 1995 - 1997. Returned there to flyfish after 20 years in 2016, just to find river Bela destroyed with silly Electrical power station, which they build on it. Why we humans destroy everything hard to tell.
