Wild Mustangs of our West by Mustang Meg March 2020

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Cold and snowy moments for the most part with a little bit of sun thrown in, March 2020 trip brought some fun moments in Oregon's south east corner. I traveled with my longtime friend, Alice, of Pony's Wild West Images... you can see us at the very end, after the scroll of credits. :)
Remember- I'm not a videographer, and video seems to be an afterthought to my MustangWILD photography... but spliced a few rough motion clips so I could "take you all along" on the mustang trails to see what it's like in the high desert. A bit shaky bc it was often dark and windy and being new handheld camcorder- with a bit of a learning curve.
Alice laughed at me bc when there was action around us, she said I looked like a double-armed outlaw- with my Canon in one hand and Camcorder in the other- shooting frames of different action moments in opposite directions.
I suppose all I needed was a duster LOL!
I hope you subscribe to my channel to get notified of new videos. And to read the journals and see the images from my various trips recorded since 2011-- Like my fb page and ride along the mustang trails journals, and stories with me on Mustang Meg! www.mustangmeg.com

This grouping has good color.... Colorful, blend into the horizon.. Those horses who do not are pushed to lower areas, and end up dead or the back yard of a Rancher looking for handout..

hiya Meg....first time seeing your channel...thumbs up !! So are all those horses roaming on Government owned land ( I scrolled through the video and missed much of your text inlays ) and if so are they protected from someone coming in and rounding them up for their personal property ?? thanks .... 1FM Lake George, NY * don't see wild horses in this neck of the woods here ....

Hey there 1FM- Thank you and welcome! Yes, they are on government lands put in place for their management since the 1971 Wild Horses and Burros Act. And yes, it is illegal for anyone on those protected wild horse and burro lands to capture wild horses, outside of the BLM agency. Thanks for the question. For additional info- There are about 177 Herd Management Areas in our ten western states, and they are on BLM lands. It is their policy to remove horses on ranges considered in excess every 4-5 years, and offer up mustangs for adoption. Those not adopted, go to Longterm Holding facilities. Our Oregon BLM on this particular treasured herd- the South Steens of the SE corner of the state worked directly with us known as the Oregon Mustang Group (OMG) - and in 2016, 2017, 2018 Conducted 100-horse bait-trap gathers (utilizing their regular/natural waterholes, mineral areas, or areas where they baited it with hay. They removed 1-6 year olds which are easier to adopt out and returned the nucleus of the family bands. We in turn, helped advertise through various social media pages the SSteens horses available for adoption. I personally advocate for on the range population suppression techniques through contraception first. But for those which have been removed, we try and help them to be adopted. For those wanting to adopt, google 'adopt wild horses blm'.

I have a question if some could help please. I hear about how important hoof care is when owning a horse. When they are in a natural and wild state do they naturally get ground down ? How does that work ? Thanks. ❤️🐴

Is there somewhere I can find out more about how these bands work? What about the bachelors - are they young colts pushed out by the stallion? Do they eventually try to get their own mates by fighting with the stallions?

Nevada is a palomino stallion (aka Nevada band bc he's the band stallion) and his lead mare is Cheyenne from the Steens mountain region in SE Oregon. They've been together for over 10 years. I invite you to go to my facebook page Mustang Meg and do a search on Nevada and you'll see all kinds of content on him. Congrats. I also have a video of him here on my channel of him moving his band of mares and foals, called "Snaking".
