Are use an up-and-down motion when trying to form a bur it Speed the process up quite a bit I tend to get knives sharpened within 15 to 20 minutes

Great video! I got my feet wet with water stones, and then a DMT guided system. The DMT guided system taught me to be a really good free-hand knife sharpener as the guide makes the process of a making or cleaning up perfect secondary bevel easy, and most importantly it teaches you what it feels like to grind out a perfect bevel. I free hand everything with the exception of raw, no bevel and badly beat up edges. Then I use my DMT. Doing research, I am convinced that a paper wheel system is the best way to go for high quality edges in a fraction of the time it takes to manually grind out an edge. I already have a leather power strop set up using a 6 inch grinder. I make my own stropping wheels. I use this exclusively for most of my knife maintenance. I only occasionally need to pull out my diamond or water stones. Again for speed, no better way to go than paper wheels for cutting and leather stropping wheels for maintenance/finishing. Good luck!

from complete new and dull, I can understand covering the handle. 4 MINUTES is what one of the ''WE employee guys'' does with his sharpening service. But he's doing household kitchen types, runs right up to a 1000 grit and is done.

I’ve considered purchasing a professional sharpening system for my shop, but they usually require 3 phase power, which my shop lacks.

Thanks for watching Roy. My current WIP (Work In Progress), are the left-handed frame-locks. That and I'm now developing a gear type back-spacer. Which may or may not be the video for next Wednesday, depending on if I can finish the prototype. I'm a Left Handed Maker BTW. KIT

I would recommend not drawing a burr until the 600 grit stone. It will save a good bit of metal and the 50/80 grit stones leave very large chips in the apex. I also noticed that your initial grind on the blade looked like a tanto but after sharpening, it looked like a spanto. Was this intentional? Tantos are usually sharpened in 2 separate sections to retain the angle change between the belly and the tip ( yokote ) I apologize if I have sounded rude.

Anthony Waldrep ya that ruined the blade imo. Way too much material removal! The low grits were not necessary at all, I would have started at 400 (I have a wicked edge). The only tanto I have sharpened with the WE I did in 2 steps like you said. It came out perfect and didn’t change the edge geometry.

It’s no longer a tanto, you grinded it down. You have to treat tantos like two separate blades so you don’t round them like that.

Thanks for your feedback mosley. Yeah it is not a tanto anymore, but I think I’m going to get a motorized sharpener like a catra so I can spanto the tanto a little bit faster.

Got to be something better than that to sharpen with on the market. I would choose the cardboard wheels over that.

I’ve been looking a lot at the Tormek T-8, and Catra. I’m not a fan of the cardboard wheels, because they generate heat on the cutting edge even when using wax, and the loose grit is super bad for my machinery in the shop, but they are a fast system. @@GillianKnives use a little more wax and less pressure should help you on the dust in your shop. Another thing is move your sharpening grinder away from other machines. Maybe even outside of your shop.

@@GillianKnives my problem is that I carry traditional pocket knives like Case or Schrade. 3 bladed knives like our grandfathers did. Therefore I think I would have a problem clamping them in the Lansky because some of the blades are small. I am thinking the spyderco triangle sharpening system would probably be my best bet. Any suggestions?
