Wicked Edge Sharpening Demonstration - Shot Show 2020

After some discussion about the Wicked Edge Pro and Go systems, Clay went into how easy it was to re-profile and maintain knives using the Wicked Edge Pro. Carlos was pretty intrigued, and just for kicks, provided his custom Mini Sheepdog from Way Of Knife MI/EDC Gear House that still had its factory edge to see how it held up. The result was... in a word... SHOCKING.
Without giving to much away, all I can say is... 8 Degrees. You have to watch the rest of the video to see what happened to his knife!

  • @jamesbell8730

@@malcolmbeckett9802 Hi, in the video Clay showed how he checked for center or apex, a few strokes on one side formed a bure on the other, the blade edge is rolling the metal to that side, then he repeated on the other side the process, the bure formed on the other side. At that point you know your pushing the apex edge. Then working it side to side keeps it on center. The black marker on the edge also confirms it as the diamonds completely remove the markers color so the angle is true. It a great system, had mine over ten years, have been able to upgrade my system, change the blade clamp and rods.

Once you get the hang of it - which doesn't take very long - the Wicked Edge system will put a phenomenally sharp edge on your knife. Once you've found the right angle, resharpening takes very little time. Buy an angleometer too to get the precise angle for your knife. If you have knives that are worth a damn, go with Wicked Edge. Pricey and worth it.

Many get a soft rubber ball, or some bicycle tire tube and cut it to shape to protect the metal bearing at the end of the stone arm. Good observation on your part. For the cost of the sharpener you would think that they would have something like that in the kit. If they do into the future they will probably charge about 60 bucks for it. Have a good one.

I noticed when talking about each of the angles he altered the setting gauge to achieve the different angles on the selector. Does the setting gauge work independently left and right or are they set as equal adjustment all the time?

Just bought the WE 130, and love it. I really don't care about the cost if it sharpens to a quality edge and this it does, but there are a couple of points I would like to make as a pro knife sharpener. 1. It does cost far too much, end of story. 2. I don't agree that "chasing the burr" is good for the knife and certainly not necessary. Pushing a burr from one side to the other is just taking far too much metal off the blade and when you are dealing with a $1000 blade it is over kill. 3. The stones up to 1000 grit which came with the kit are all far too course so I rarely use them unless I want to do a hefty re profile. 4. I never chase the burr by sharpening up to the leading edge. To keep a knife with a sharp edge and plenty of metal always sharpen with strokes starting from the leading edge and traveling downward towards the base. I noticed the guy do the with the finer grits which was good to see. Great video none the less.

My cousin has the pro WE and he also bought just about every stone they have, he's got the money. He does upward strokes and WE told him the downward makes it sharper but it is so slight to really make a difference. I've seen a test done (if it was truly accurate) that proved this. Both were sharp but the downward stroke was a bit sharper. About the burr chasing, I don't know how you can center a blade by not doing that. Taking off more metal to achieve that is no big deal to me considering just how little of the metal it really is, but that's me and if you're getting what you like on your blades, that's great. I was close to ordering the basic WE but for what I was looking for in sharpening, I ended up with the KME kit for $225. I'm very pleased with it. Other similar sharpeners are cheaper and more expensive. To me, all are good for the money and it depends how much a person wants to spend to have sharp knives. The KME that's similar in sharpening as the WE, finally has given me consistent edges throughout and has given me sharper blades than I could achieve before.

I ALSO SPOKE THE TRUTH WHEN I SAID; "BUTTTTTTTTTTTT, IT IS WWWWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYYYY OVER-PRICED", BECAUSE, FRIEND, IT TRULY IS! QUESTION; DOES BENCHMADE USE ONE OF YOUR MACHINES?!! NO, THEY PLOP THEIR OVER PRICED BLADES ON A BELT GRINDER AND WHISTLE DIXIE WHILST THE SPARKS FLY! ARE THEY NOT """PROFESSSIONALS""?!!!!! I AM ONLY A WEEKEND WARRIOR, BUT LET US NOT BELITTLE SUCH UNPROFESSIONALS AS MYSELF, BECAUSE WITHOUT OUR SPENDING OUR MONEY ON KNIVES, ALL OF SPYDERCO'S, BENCHMADE'S, CASE'S, BUCK'S, KERSHAW'S, AND THE WEEKEND PROFESSIONALS CEOs AND EMPLOYEES WOULD BE WORKING AT THE LOCAL MICKEY DEES! I SAID EARLIER; "AT THAT PRICE IT IS NOTHING BUT A RICH BOY'S TOY!!!!!!!!!!!! I'LL STICK WITH MY LANSKY, AND I WOULD BE WILLING TO BET I CAN SHARPEN A KNIFE JUST AS GOOD AS THE WICKED EDGE!" - - - I STAND BY THAT 1,000,000 PERCENT!!! IF ONE IS IN A POSTION TO RECOUPE THEIR MONEY USING A WICKED EDGE MACHINE, OR THEY HAVE $600.00 JUST TO BLOW, OR THEY ARE GIVEN A WICKED EDGE MACHINE (FREE OF CHARGE) SO THEY CAN MAKE A KZread VIDEO ABOUT IT, THEN GOOD ON THEM, HOWEVER, I DO NOT SHARPEN TONS OF KNIVES, NOR WILL I EVER DO SO, AND I CAN USE $600.00 IN BETTER WAYS THAN TO BUY A KNIFE SHARPENER. I SUPPOSE NOW WE WILL NEVER BE BEST BUDS, BUT ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU CONSIDER MY POINT OF VIEW. YOURS TRULY, A FRUGAL WEEKEND WARRIOR.

That's not my sharpening machine. That was the companies machine being demonstrated by the owner of the company at a tradeshow 1000 miles from my house. NOT SURE WHY YOU'RE YELLING AT ME?

I didn't say I could afford one either. But Professional sharpening services use these...that is a fact. And they have money to spend on an efficient and accurate system.

I BELIEVE YOU DID READ MY POST, AND I BELIEVE YOU UNDERSTAND MY POINT (EVEN IF YOU DO NOT AGREE), SO, I THANK YOU FOR THAT - LORD BLESS!

The guy who owns the knife? Maybe you missed the fact that the two of us released 50 videos at Shot Show? Oh, and we're both KZread channel hosts? Maybe that makes me a Shill too? Maybe all of KZread is a Shill? Or do you relize it's the job of a KZread host and video presenter to guide the audience or our interview though a process? What exactly are your credentials anyway?

Thanks...don't worry...I have like 550 more videos. Why don't you go dislike the rest of them...it'll keep you busy for a little while. Sort of a ridiculous reason to dislike. Don't worry about it. Like it didn't cost me hundreds of dollars to fly out there...and literally dozens of hours to edit and post these videos? Your kind of ignorant in a way. I'd get the satisfaction of you wasting your time disliking all the rest of my videos. There are hundreds without a single dislike...so go ahead and spend the time to go dislike every single one of them. I'm sure there's some detail I missed...even when someone else all together is the one presenting. But if you ARE going to dislike, I need the reason why...I need to understand what it is that I do wrong on each one of these videos so I can obviously improve to get approval from each and every viewer as to not miss a single beat. Thanks for the constructive criticism...I'll do better next time!
