They will fight it tooth and nail but racism played a huge part in how Dahmer was able to go on a killing spree virtually in plain sight. I know it to be true because I lived it and was almost one of his victims. The racism from the Milwaukee Police Dept was so thick you can cut it with a knife. I was too young to understand racism although I was in my late teens my parents shielded me from a lot of those evils in life or at least they tried so it took me a while to catch and understand racsim like Black friends who went to public school. I am Black as well but enjoyed parts of life that a lot of Black did not get the opportunity back then. I did not know or understand until I got older that my life was somewhat sheltered and for good cause.

People used to not give AF about gay people. In many people's eyes, gays were less than and therefore not worth the time and effort that would be put into someone else's case. It was the same way with the AIDS crisis. No one wanted to help. And many people thought gays deserved to die, and that the virus was God's punishment to them. Then, if you add gay and being black on top of that, then police really didnt care as much. Even though it was the 90s, it was still very stigmatized to be gay.

I lived in Milwaukee at the time. I still remember the immediate outrage over the police response and conduct. The total abandonment of duty when they handed Konerak back to Dahmer was heartbreaking and disgusting.

Welll they dont have to watch. No ones putting a gun to their head to watch. Im glad this series was made. Truly glad. Im not into thrillers or true crime videos at all, but this series is showing me a lot how the justice system failed , and how deep someones mind can go to deep ruin. It also warns a lot of ppl to not trust anyone off the bat. I really dont get why ppl are upset this is made. Its different if this was on TV all over commercials etc etc on subway ads, but this series is just on netflix, and you dont have to watch it if it makes you uncomfortable.

I think its important we are made aware of true evil in the world and not all this panto smoke and mirrors we are Spoon fed by the media the majority if the time , I understand it can be painful and upsetting for familes to to have horrific family members murders brought up , and I do sympathise with them but on the other hand I do think its important we know the world.for what it really is , we are bringing our children up in this scary place and we should be made aware of the dangers., also the police shouldn't be allowed to get away with the failings of victims , if these documentaries were not made we would all be under the assumption the police did all they could when they let those men ,boys and familes down enormously it breaks my heart to think what they all.went through but it's made me more Aware rest their souls in peace 🙏

I watched the series on Netflix. I thought to myself several times how horrible the families must feel to have someone portray their loved ones and relive it all over again.

Can’t imagine being Dalmer’s attorneys & having to sit next to such evil all day everyday for this trial. Yuck! 🤮

I understand story telling, but NetFlix took unnecessary license. The story is tragic and horrific. The opening news scene wasn't true, how Tracy and Jeff met and that entire interaction wasn't anything like Tracy described it in court. Jeff apparently had cichilds not fighting fish. Jeff was already a tragic character. No need for embellishment. I will say I think they did a good job making him human. It seems like no one ever saw him and he was furniture. Having read some further information he was likely on the spectrum as well. Having seen more than one depiction of his story, he seemed a really sad fellow. Regardless who the culprit is, I think you have to show them as accurate as possible. He really seemed to be an injured soul, unlike Gacey or Bundy per se. They both relished the attack and violence. Jeff seems to just got caught up in his own fantasy. When you are alone, you turn inward and self destruction is often the out come. I can not imagine what any of these people went through. He seemed to have no concept of his actions actually affecting other people-at least in the big picture. I wonder how hard this was for his brother...he must be quite resilient. The guilt his parents experienced must have been off the charts as well.

I think having these depictions of the horrific acts of serials and thier victims give us insight as to why and how these damaged souls happen. I don't think Netflix glorified anything. If anything the victims were depicted very well.

Never seen such careless and uninterested police in my entire life. Every single day I think of that boy who was escorted BACK into dahmer's apartment. I wonder how they live with their conscience. If they have one

Had the judge did his job in the 1988 case and hit Dahmer with the max sentence, he could have saved the lives of those men/boys. Dahmer felt invisible after he was release from prison and his killings amplified.

I belive it all depends where you live also. I live in NYC, if you complain to the authorities about a foul odor ( smelling like rotten bodies) the authorities are going to investigate that foul smell. Years ago my elderly neighbor died in his apartment & it was in the summer. The stench was horrible. After calling the police the investigated & found out what apartment the smell was coming from They broke into the apartment & realized the man had been dead in his apartment for days, with the windows open. Other cities the authorities aren't that concerned & diligent about finding out thing like that!!!

I saw pictures of the young man that Dahmer took of him the night he was found wandering in the neighborhood and to be honest I would have thought he was 18 or older if I didn’t know any better! He didn’t look like a 14 year old baby faced kid. Now me saying that does NOT excuse the incompetence of the police. But just going by looks I can see how they believed he was older. That’s why checking proper identification is CRITICAL! you can’t go by what you see! The police should have known that

I was 28 vacationing in Chicago at the time this story broke. That's all people talked about in the restaurants and hotels. They couldn't keep enough newspapers on the street. This case will go down as one of the ultimate crimes against humanity for my generation.

Interesting when people say he should have been caught when the boy escaped his apartment, when in reality, he had many close calls that he could of and should of been caught in. Starting with his first murder, he had the cut up body in a garbage bag in his back seat at night when he was pulled over and the police officer even asked what was on the bag. Let him go. Then Mr. Flowers bringing the police to his house and the police believing Dahmer over the well-educated black man with no criminal record, THEN the boy escaping his apartment. Multiple police officers and agencies failed these boys and men. The bias they held is clear as day.

Its amazing how Dahmer looked so different in the trial than he did a year later in those TV interviews. I know the stress/relief/weight gain played a role but he genuinely looks like a completely different person in most photos/videos. Bundy was also a human chameleon in this respect...bizarre.

It’s so strange the young Laotian boy was sent back with Dahner by officers only to be killed. There were 2 months from that day until Daumier was caught. I’m sure there was a report of a missing Laotian boy why didn’t the police put two and two together? Plus - supposedly it was the boys brother who put dahner on probation for taking pics of him underaged.

That never made any sense to me either. The truth is there was strong racism against Laotions, and other people that came over from that part of Asia in the Midwest at that time. They weren't treated well at all. A lot of them were sent to live in bad neighborhoods they knew nothing about by government programs. Many of them didn't know English so they couldn't get hired easily. People thought they would eat your cat or dog because of their culture. They just were resented because of ignorance. I remember a Buddhist temple where I lived being burned down that Laotians went to. Nobody was reprimanded for it. They really were treated bad.

This happened pre-Amber alert, so a minor could go missing for a while without triggering a report. In a lot of cases the police would also minimize parents' concerns, telling them that maybe the kid had run away or was out partying and being rebellious (especially with teenagers) and having them wait and see if they returned on their own, before organizing a search. In this case though the lack of a widespread emergency alert system was absolutely no excuse cause -missing report or not - Dahmer was currently on parole for SAing a minor (the boy's brother) plus had a previous conviction for indecent exposure, all of which would've been evident if the cops had just bothered to run his name. It doesn't matter if the boy could talk or not, or if they could ID him or not cause it was Dahmer himself who was in the system, they'd at least have to take him in for questioning. Fact is they couldn't even be bothered to ask for a simple name check cause they didn't care about anybody in this situation (working class, POC, gay). This was a terrible judgment call, but it went beyond the bigotry of those two officers since, after watching this, there's obviously a systemic issue affecting the entire department enabling this. It's clear it wasn't an isolated, "bad apples" incident, it was common and there was no accountability.

I never thought about how the police didn't connect the dots even after the same boy they found naked and unconscious went missing. This seems absurd I can't make any sense of it.

The Asian boys' family used to attend my dad's church. Their sister died of cancer. This family went through a lot. Then the nerve of my coworker) defending one of the cops because she is the ex-inlaw. She was married to his loser brother. The cops didn't check the boy's ID nor Dahmer's. They would have found that Dahmer was a sex offender (went to jail for drugging the 14 yr. old boy's brother). The cop Gabrish even got. promoted to captain. Dahmer got away with a lot as a white male. He was even stopped with a body in his car during his first kill and the cop allowed him to return home (Dahmer was on his way to bury the body in the woods) because Dahmer lied and the cop said Dahmer reminded him of his own son. The cop could have been a hero but chose to be lazy. The 3 cops were lazy and backed Dahmer to help him get away because they didn't do their jobs (kind of like what is going on now). If no one believed in white privilege and the good old white boy's club, believe it now. One of the cops even became president of the police association. Oh, my god. Show less

The cops who stopped him with body parts in the car gave him field sobriety tests and he passed. He wasn’t drunk that night, they ticketed him for driving left of center or something. The “you’re a good boy with life ahead of you” bs was made up for the show. It’s true that they didn’t look into the garbage bags, tho, just asked him about it.

For many years ( before I was a psyche R.N.,) I had wondered what made Dahmer commit these heinous crimes. At that time there didn’t seem to be a reason, no emotional, physical, psychological abuse. The new Netflix series did a good job re: some possible reasons. It was insightful, frightening without too much gore. Acting was great. He got away with sooo much that I was astounded. Rest In Peace to the victims, kudos to the neighbor who kept calling, and my heart goes out to the victims families. Oh, hats off to the man who got away because he was the one who ultimately saved many lives. Forgive me if I forgot his name.

Being a former hospice nurse the smell of death is horrible- one body . How the grandmothers house didn’t gag you when you walked in amazes me! I feel so sorry for the people In the apt bldg having to deal with that smell . RIP to the victims

Let’s be REAL here for once… These officers weren’t concerned cuz it had to do wit ppl that lived a different lifestyle. These officers got way too many calls concerning the smells and strange behavior coming from Jeff’s apartment. I’m sure most of those officers didn’t WANT to do anything about gay men coming up missing, just outta the blue! POOF💨💨💨 AND FOR YEARS!!! WE ALL have heard ppl of the law say a dead body has a distinct smell. They went to his apartment numerous times. U mean to tell me they “ALL OF A SUDDEN” couldn’t smell a NUMBER of dead bodies???? AND he lived in a neighborhood wit a high drug and criminal rates. So y’all KNO the law wuz around. Look, these ppl didn’t care!!! Why is it these serial killers can kill so many, right under the laws noses. But they don’t get caught for years? Cuz they mostly kill ppl that live on the “Fringes of society”, so to speak. THEY DIDN’T CARE!!!

More emotional bs to fit your self victimization. Not all cops have been around decomposing bodies, I have and it is a very distinct smell but also smells like a decomposing animal. Most serial killers are very smart, charismatic and act normal so they don’t rouse too much suspicion. Not every this because of race as much as you’d like it to be.

One of the Konerak officers said he thought the smell might've been 💩 and he might've subsequently assumed that the 💩 smell was due to sex. As such they weren't gonna linger there.... The Netflix movie tried to allude to that when JD said sex gets "fiery" and "You how it is." Then the cop's comment to JD was "I certainly don't know. I don't know what you guys do... Now we have to shower..." 🚿 It's episode 2. Unsure if that was the true chat 3 decades ago but it's what the writers put into the script. The 💩 part was true and can be found in the trial files. It's in the files officially as "excrement", not 💩 of course.

What I appreciate are how the prosecutors are quick on the draw, no pauses, and straight to the point. No, ‘um’, ‘um’, ‘um’. The ums drive me CRAZY when watching some.

It makes me so mad that they fired the cops who sent Konerak back into his apartment but then they were reinstated with back pay by a judge. They should have never lived without hearing about their screw up every day.

Who gets wasted off of bailey's Irish cream and coffee. That should have rang alarm bells and supported the statement that he had been drugged.

Smdh...can't even imagine what his victims went thru!! 😢

Gotta have evidence to arrest and Flowers said they were drinking together. Dahmer was convincing and there was no evidence of Flowers being drugged by Dahmer. He was, but you can’t prove that without evidence.

Why do they take the victim’s back to the place/person that did this to them?

My uncle Tati says he worked with Jeff at Ambrosia Chocolate in the early 90’s like 90 or 91. He said that everyone knew to heat up their food early before Dahmer showed up because when Jeff heated up his lunch, it would stink up the place. I always felt my uncle embellished but after watching the Netflix show it’s seems more likely he was telling the truth

I remember hearing about this in year 7. And then I remember hearing he was killed in prison a few years later. This peaked my interest in true crime.

The judge seemed already decided on a decision all through this deliberation. Lol. He kept asking the stenographer to repeat everything the prosecutors were asking like he wasn’t listening to anything lol.

But the smell. I mean decomposing corpses… and the police didn’t feel like that was a little strange when they got the 14 yo boy back in there? They should’ve been in jail, right next to him! I can only imagine the scent coming out of there when he opened his door. In all the cases I’ve seen, this might be the most insane thing. He literally got away with the smell of death. And how in hell did it not stain his clothes?!

I was born in Ladysmith Wisconsin a very small town I still watch some of the stuff that comes up on KZread about Dahmer and it just blows my mind those poor families even his family his father and his stepmother I can't even imagine what they go through I just pray all the time for peace for those families that they have some kind of peace as they lay down their head at night and it's only through Jesus Christ, Joshua hamashiach Jesus Christ the Messiah the father God and the flesh

Must've been tough as a Defense Attorney to defend a person you knew was guilty. However due process states that every person has a right to counsel. This process was only to determine how much time he'll get and the money the Defense will get because of the obvious

His attorney seemed very sympathetic to him IMO in the documentary. She said she felt like his sister or mother 🙄 like that judge in the sexual assault case. He looked like them so they related to him more

This is awsome they finally released the full trial..I seen Tracy edwards testimony years ago that’s always been available on the internet but so good to be able to see the whole thing

I'm sooo intrigued that he got lawyers to actually represent him..they sat there with a monster!...I just couldn't do it!

That was a father daughter team. They were very prominent lawyers, or at least the dad was the time. Atty Boyle. I believe they did it pro bono. I met the daughter when I was working at the local mall. She came in the store during the trial. What my co-workers did not know at the time and still do not is I was almost one of Dahmer's victims. I did not know either until I saw his face on the news. I still live in Milwaukee. That area where he did most of his killing has faced some harsh times.

I feel so bad for that 14year old

He actually had been diagnosed with bpd and antisocial personality disorder. I have bpd and social anxiety. We come across " normal” unless we get triggered we then split. He did this for many reasons, one being afraid of being abandoned…one of the biggest fears in people that suffer from bpd. Please look up bpd if you want to have a better understanding.

Was it the hernia operation that caused him such discomfort that eventually led him to explode on others? Was it the emotional abuse? Was it because of the lack of control that he had in the house? There must be an answer! I mean a child doesn't just randomly grow up to become a serial killer and start killing n eating people, it doesn't happen that way..
