    I would love to see a color theory tutorial for the eyes!! That stuff is so fun and fascinating and I don't think get's enough chatter. I.E.> Blue eyes- what would be complimentary colors on the color wheel? Monochrome? or Opposite on the color wheel? This is what makes me "explore" with makeup more~

    People don't watch tutorials because most of these "tutorials" are just MUAs putting their makeup on. Now THIS is a tutorial. Explaining how, what and where, no distractions, no annoying background music, excellent. You, Ali Andreea and Alexandra Anele are the only ones I watch who actually explain stuff while showing how. Keep doing those!

    That's definitely why. It's fun to watch but the novelty wears off when you try it yourself and realize it's nowhere near as easy as experienced people make it look. It's the same with all of the arts. Like it's fun to watch a pro painter show off skills but that just makes you want a Bob Ross to give you "happy little trees" steps you can actually follow. It can be discouraging to try things that look simple and somehow fail at every step 😅

    @@cherub73au I think he's doing that. I don't recall him saying in this tutorial, for example, to use the Patrick Ta palette, it's just what he has on hand. I think it's possible to follow technique with whatever you have as most products have the same color variety, coverage levels, etc. Like eyeshadow palettes for instance, I'm sure most of them have neutral browns, a black for smokey situations, and shimmery colors.

    It's so bizarre to hear that tutorials don't do better on KZread, because that's the only type of video I actually actively search for in the beauty-sphere. There's so much value in tutorials that expand on good basics as far as color theory, technique and product recommendations. Fun, trendy makeup is well and good, but at the end of the day, knowing how to shape brows and liner for your face in particular is always going to work. Hope these videos get a little more traction! ❤

Everyone is into the short videos and the digital creators the ones that make everything look so easy in like 30 seconds or less lol

I don’t really have an interest in advanced styles or techniques, but I still want to look pretty every now and again. Good in-depth tutorials about the basics are hard to find and absolutely priceless.

    I have fairly round eyes and I've realized a couple of things over time. The first is that going beyond my lid/into the crease looks odd on me. Very light colors can work, depending on the look I'm going for, but I usually skip it and keep color on the lid. The second is that I only line my eyes from the halfway point of my lid outward, on the top, and then maybe a third of the way in max on the bottom. It still gives definition but doesn't create the bulging look. Occasionally I break these "rules" if I'm doing something purposely dramatic or a costumey look, but they help most of the time.

I was never on beauty KZread back in the day, so i didn't watch all the tutorials for years to get tired of them and I can't be the only one. • @hazardsigns

    @hazardsigns

    A good way to start with a new palette that is overwhelming is to look at either the rows, the columns or the quads. Most modern colour stories are set out with one of these in mind. The easiest example I can think of is Lauren Mae Beauty's recent collaboration with Oden's Eye. She has a cool tone neutral column, a warm tone neutral column, her "pop of colour" column in the middle and then her all shimmer blues column and her blue look column. She specifically laid it out this way with two shadow looks in mind. I know this isn't as helpful with some bigger palettes, anything over 12 shades can be daunting. In those situations, I sometimes find myself playing palette bingo instead 🙈

    it's so fascinating to me to get your take on makeup artistry because I'm a classically trained traditional artist and it still amazes me how much they overlap, like you mentioned the way you hold your makeup brush affects how it works, which is the same thing you learn doing oil painting for example. definitely support more of these, well done! ♡

  • @LunarEleven

    @LunarEleven

    SAME! This really clicked for me when I saw a contouring video that taught underpainting! I've also felt like I have a transferable knowledge base with products- like how layering primer, foundation, etc follows the "fat over lean" principle. I see so many people reviewing products blaming the makeup for issues that are definitely caused by using, for instance, a water-based product over silicone or (especially) oil-based primer or moisturizer. And we definitely know our way around brushes :) Once you've dealt with cleaning brushes after oil painting, makeup is a cakewalk.

    I have a tip! The darker the colour of the shadow you're working with is when you're doing more complex looks with gradients, the smaller the blending brush you want to use. You don't want the gradient colours to blend into each other, you want them to stay separated enough to be (subtly) distinguishable.

    Sadly I think the "clean girl" look has kinda killed alot of makeup stuff in general, just throw on BB cream and a rare beauty liquid blush and maybe a halo glow bronzer and you're done, it's not alot to learn. So now it feels like it's just influencers discussing brand releases No offense to girls who like the style, but I kind of want the "clean girl" thing to stop being trendy just so content creators can be creative again. Because I remember in 2016 when smokey looks were in and there were SO many tutorials

My sister died last year from breast cancer and she left me all of her makeup. I’m just now getting back into watching makeup KZread again. We used to always watch the makeup channels on KZread and discuss the makeup and do each other’s makeup. ROBERT!!!! I love this! I love how you've turned your head away from the camera to show us the specific angles that you hold your brushes. I WILL be sitting in front of my mirror when I watch this again to test out my skills and play with makeup. I always think your eyeshadow looks amazing, but when I try it myself, I can't quite get the shape or the faded edges right. Now I have some tips! I'm a long time follower and I've watched and loved your older tutorials, and I'm so excited to see that they are back. Perhaps tutorials will be cool again when people see how much they can learn from a real MUA and not just every average person putting on makeup in their bedroom.

    Absolutely do more tutorials! I am always learning from you, and I love the little tips and tricks. I was so happy when you mentioned putting a little primer by the outside corner of your eye to help if it's tearing. The outside corner of my right eye always tears up, and it's so annoying. I am definitely going to try that :) Thanks, Robert!

    Awesome tutorial Mr. Welsh!!! So many "a ha" moments. The detail and demonstration of brush angles and pressure is incredibly helpful. It feels like I've watched hundreds of tutorials and this is a million times more helpful than the others. Please, please, please continue tutorials like this. There is an audience. I think people have lost interest in tutorials because they can't get the same results. It feels like this video is a one on one, personal tutorial with a pro mua. I would love to see more tutorials about the subtleties of brush angles and pressure, etc. I don't have much eyelid space, so I thought the answer was to get smaller brushes, but I still couldn't get good blending results. I will practice what you've shown today. Also, I am 52, (my birthday was yesterday!l), so the skin of my eyelids has changed. As a Pro MUA, I'm sure you have many tips having to work with all skin types, regardless of how many times they've been around the sun. I really love your channel and love you as a person! Thank you!! ❤️

    Really appreciate how incredibly detailed your explanations are! Things like how to hold the brush and what kind of motions to make with your hand don’t always get explained in tutorials but they can make a big difference as you demonstrated, so I feel like I learned a lot today 😊 Edit: the “pinky up” suggestion REALLY helped me, I’m always death-gripping my brushes and need to consciously tell myself to relax but it feels way easier now!

    I absolutely love this tutorial, I find it kind of bizzare that people don't really watch tutorials. I feel like even if you are an MUA or just someone who is pro at makeup, there's always tips and tricks that you can pick up from other artists. I'm part of the younger audience being 18 and I have always liked makeup but I could just never really do it properly I guess. Having tutorials is honestly refreshing considering most makeup content on Instagram and tiktok is just so quick and the process is cut out, you can't follow and replicate themselves. So I actually really appreciate this tutorial and I've definitely learnt tips that are going to make my eye makeup so much more clean. So please keep doing these Robert, they are really helpful! 🖤🖤🖤

    It's interesting how tutorials seem to not get any attention but makeup "hacks" are all the rage. I think it's because the latter tend to be shorter to attract those with low attention spans. Not trying to be mean because I can get distracted easily as well. Just noticing.
