    As an MUA, I can say, social media has given people COMPLETELY unrealistic expectations of what we can do. You’re 45 Karen, I can’t remove wrinkles 🙄 (No shade, I MYSELF am 45! Lol)

    I'm 45 next month too! I wish I'd been as into makeup when I didn't have wrinkly eyelids - I would love to have the experience of putting on eyeliner without it jumping over wrinkles or having to adjust for said wrinkles. Or to blend without wrinkles... alas I really got into makeup later in life and these are just things you have to deal with. I wish MUAs had a magic wand...but at least Karen has facetune (something I simply can't be arsed to learn how to use lol) 😁

    My husband Dave, who passed away in Aug last year, used to watch your videos with me. He really liked your personality and found that you exuded a calm confidence (except when you are doing scary videos with your brother obviously😄👻👻). What he really liked though, was that you weren't arrogant and that if you went into a video with a "preconceived" idea that something was shit😄 but after using it, you sheepishly declared "you know what, I'm not mad with that" or hands on cheeks saying "ooh, I think I like that", I would hear him sniggering on the bed next to me, pretending to not be listening. After I realised that he enjoyed them, I would shout to him that there was a new video up and he would lie on the bed and watch it with me😊. Now I watch them on my own but every time I do, I think of him💕. Keep being honest and candid....and drama-free, as the rest of the Pro MUA's embroiled in these petty sagas are just to exhausting to watch🙄!

The only makeup styles that work for my eyes are ones originating from Asia that don't require eyelid tape, because they use what little surface area naturally shows in the most efficient ways. If I did eyeliner the way I see many north american muas do it my whole visible eyelid would be black when my eyes are open. And I know because I used to try to do it that way lol

    "Giving the look of no makeup requires A LOT of makeup!" I had to laugh out loud at this one. I'm 68 and when I have all my "war paint" people will say how pretty my skin is, how natural I look etc etc. It's all smoke and mirrors, as you said. It's getting harder to make my face look even and all that jazz. When I do do it, it's a lot of work. I'm constantly learning. When someone my age looks at photos it can be really discouraging, face-shaming and body-shaming. Until I remember: Duh. Photoshop. I really enjoy your personality, you seem so genuine and caring. First time watching you. Your eye makeup is stunning!

    the first one is very interesting to me because it's similar to a technique called underpainting which was commonly used in old oil paintings to get more variation in colour and depth when they didn't have a lot of colour options. it's weird cos it makes complete sense to me but also I never would've thought to do it lmao

  • @Captain_Pink

    Ahh yes, a lovely grisaille. I need to get back to painting 😭🥰 I LOVE watching the beginning of my painting unfold in the grisaille stage and even though it's an outdated technique, I think we really underestimate the ability to edit and revise a composition while still in the stage of using either a grey or (my favorite) a raw umber or burnt sienna and white. And I REALLY think it adds to the depth of the piece, as well, but I think all beginning painters should be trained to work that way because you notice issues in composition, or potential improvements, opportunities etc in your painting without having to be beholden to hours of actual painting, color, brushstrokes and WORK in general.

    I have hooded eyes too (and getting more so, year on year. Yay 40s). Smith Deepak's chanel has great tips for hooded eyes! Recently I've been enjoying bright matte colours in a single shadow look. I particularly like acid green, as I have dark green pupils and they go well together. Using just one shadow, in a good formula and giving it a gentle blend at the edges. So even if it gathers a little in the crease, there are no travelling sparkles and it wears well all day. Even in a recent heat wave. Satins have also become a new friend. They are very forgiving and can be used all over without mattes.

    As an MUA I remember a thing my old-school teacher (he's been doing makeup since 91) told us: put makeup for the occasion - which means match your environment. To give you an example: If you have a mid day event somewhere in a park/ garden (spring/summer) do creamy makeup with sheer textures and that will look stunning. If you have to do a makeup for a magazine cover then you have to pack that makeup tight so it shows on that picture ( that will never look amazing in person because it'll be very intense). For me it's funny to see makeup pictures, knowing that my natural style of makeup almost doesn't show in pictures but looks amazing in person.

    As a photographer It is natural for my brain (as a sort of automatic exercise) to detect what has been done to a picture, it is normal for me to asume that almost all pictures are edited, can be as simple as colour correction. From time to time I talk to someone that is surprised that this or that pic is edited, and I remember the importance of making a disclaimer that a picture has work on it.

    With the glue for hooded eyes, are you able to blink comfortably? And generally, how long would it hold? BTW, Robert, your makeup is looking so damn good in this video!!!

  • @allxtae9366

    @allxtae9366

    2 жыл бұрын

    Depending on your glue, it usually lasts around 5hrs. Some super strong eyelid glues can last the whole day. Effectiveness may decrease if you have oily lids. If you have a lot of skin on your hood, it may be more comfortable to blink. But if your eyelid skin is really tight, it may be difficult to blink comfortably and you may have rather dry eyes as your eyes can’t close all the way. Some eyelash glues may irritate the skin so it is recommended to use proper eyelid glue from Asia instead. Eyelid tape is usually more long lasting and comfortable.

    The lighting issue is the same thing within the physique and fitness industry, where you want the shadows to highlight the striations of the muscles and the separation between muscle groups. You want a certain kind of lighting and at a certain angle to enhance the outlook of your physique. It’s a social media trap, but it’s also how you portray your best physique on stage by taking advantage of the lighting. I think that sort of lighting is called Half Natty Lighting. On top of that, photo editing is still done on physique competitors, but understandably this is to sell an image and to promote the athlete. At this point, what we see on social media we have to take with a pinch salt knowing that features are enhanced and edited to sell a certain image. Edit: The makeup hygiene part calls back to the video James did about the girls that got herpes from the lipstick tester in Sephora.

    What that makeup artist was saying is exactly what happened in the hair business. I started in the early 2000s and there wasn't Pinterest, filters, etc. As time went on, people started brining in these instensely unrealistic haircolor and "haircut" photos that were heavily filtered and took so many sessions and so much upkeep. People constantly wanted "haircuts" that are just layerless and waved professionally with an iron.

    Ok, on the reaction about PaintedbySpencer vid. Recently a friend who worked for a production company did casting for a dating reality show for a streaming platform which needed a lot of girls as talent. The girls come to the studio and did a video interview. Afterwards, my friend compile a profileof each girl consist of their name etc, few of their Instagram pic and their video interview. What's funny is, the upper management or her bosses who are 90% male, said that the girls doesn't look anything like their IG pics and critize her for her casting set up as in did she use the right camera, did enough lighting is applied etc and not realizing that these IG pics are touched, filtered or maybe edited added the fact that some of them may also are taken 100x before finding the right one or taken by a proffesional photograper or a perfectly lit situation or wheter its a full blown a pre planned photo shoot. In short, my friend was trying to portray the girls in the most natural setting as possible but still presentable since its a casting with the purpose of experiencing their real precense, profile etc but her bosses apparently was having this high expectations based on something which is not achieveable in real life.

    First off, thank you for posting this. Today was just awful, and I needed a break. Your videos are peaceful, lovely, and so positive, which is what I needed. Second, I cannot understand how anyone can use a tester! I once had my makeup done by a well-known makeup artist, and he gave me so many good practical, sensible tips. Most important? Don't use the applicators in the bottles on your skin, and clean your tools after. When I go in to try to match a foundation, if they don't have a window, or a natural light setting, and testers look dirty, I don't shop there. All of my own cream/liquid products-foundation, lipstick, blush, gloss...I have to put some on a mirror I use as a palette(until I can get to the art store and buy a few plastic palettes that I use for cosmetics). My cosmetics applicators only touch a sanitised surface. I immediately clean that mirror and store it for next time. My kohl pencils get sharpened, and misted with cosmetic sanitiser spray. Mascara I use disposable spoolies(I clean and donate them to rescues so they are worth the expense to me to bulk buy them. My eyeshadow gets a misting of sanitiser after use, and if I'm not using a palette for a while after sanitising it, I polybag it(probably overkill, but I've never had infections or reactions because of outside nasties growing in them). I once spent an entire afternoon making my niece clean her tools on camera before we did a makeup chat. I'm definitely going to try that primer tip though. So neat!
