The negative motivational part to get your goals is defintely the better way. I watched an Andrew Huberman video on goal setting that proves you are more than likely to stay with goals if you focus on how you will fail if you don't do them. Anyway always love the videos they are super helpful . Thank you.

Love the video Owen! Long time fan, attended a few hotseats as well. One thing I actually found issue in is how to hold yourself accountable to continue improving after you actually achieve everything you wanted. 3-4 years of going out and building willpower landed me a girlfriend, 6 figure job, home. All happened right before cough cough year. Found myself getting very stagnant in times of comfort and struggling to get back to who I was before and to continue hustling. Love coming back to the og for getting me back on the right mindset 💪

Thank you Owen, I was just remembering a video where you said no matter if you have to work 10x as much to get to the same place someone else was given because you got to that place. Like it doesn't matter if you had to work 16 hour days for 10 years to become a millionaire and someone else was given a million dollars, you're still a millionaire. On the topic of willpower, this is so interesting how it intertwines learning and automated synaptic pathway activations. How it is frustrating to learn something new, but once it is learned it can be activated. The push and impetus in this process is also very interesting to observe. Thanks again Owen.

I like the pay money and punch in shoulder technique. I had a friend that had “approach anxiety” and on the beach one day, I said, “ f you don’t open, you’re holding my hand all the way back to the car hahaha. He opened. I don’t believe in Willpower….I believe in conditioned responses. As far as breaking loose of conditioned responses, I recommend command Z or undoing work that’s changing the structure of the brain and de-conditioning oneself. Also, doing anything different is restructuring the brain as well…whether that’s cold bath, hot sauna, learning jazz flute, juijitsu erc.

OWEN, you did a video a long while back, which was set on the East Shore of O'ahu and was centred on the topic of Depression and how for the guy starting out who is right at the bottom, its the same sort of process as when Bruce Wayne had to essentially lose his fear of death in order to escape from his prison. Just an opinion from a humble friend - but I remember that video was hugely popular and I think it could do with seeing the light of day again as it seems relevant. given Jordan Petersons stance about a month ago on Piers Morgan. I have it myself but not going to repost it for obvious reasons. You've don a lot for me, keep winning Tom Edit: I reckon if you shaved off the first 14 seconds, and did an intro of you now, it would transition pretty good.

Great topic!! Read the willpower instinct for deeper understanding of this element. I have always felt I could do a lot. Yet a lot of people feel that, as long as you have energy flowing. Now the truth is that reality feels REAL REAL when you push yourself to do something. Like getting feedback from your social interactions over and over again. Or running a marathon where your mind and body are against you, wanting you to stop for hours but you push through!!!! Never thought about it as willpower. I thought it was sheer consciousness strength. Willpower is a close accurate word for it I agree.

It’s already not so difficult for me to meet new people (bless RSD for that), but it’s already not so exciting for me either. Maybe, because I haven’t achieved my goals by taking massive action, or it’s simply comfortable for me to be alone at home (music is my girlfriend, as I say), or I’ve got deep issues that are complemented by the war in our country (Ukraine). Anyway, I continue forcing myself to say hi to strangers whenever I’m outside and inspiring by videos of the ex-RSD team despite of internal contradictions. I literally trick my brain to do so, as Owen says. Hope it’d be better someday, and I’d really enjoy the interactions. Wish you the same. Peace.

What I find is that I don't even need to give cash or be tapped on the shoulder if I don't approach because whenever I'm with a wing I just do it, it comes off as the easiest thing in the world, they can just stand there and watch and I would do it, but whenever I'm by myself I feel like something just stops me; what could that be, and how do I make myself go all in ?

It’s just like how Owen said it. Those are external motivations and they work because there is someone holding you accountable or some associated money loss. When by yourself you need to find that kind of motivation, Owen said to right down the cost of you not taking action, let the pain land when you write it down, that will be the motivation same as someone taking money from you
