Have lived in Winnipeg, MB, Medicine Hat, AB, as well as just outside of Dallas/Ft Worth, TX... have travelled to Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Zurich... you couldn’t pay me enough to live anywhere but small town Saskatchewan. Zero crime, comparable income to city living, people who care about each other and help each other.. TRY to convince me otherwise...

The problem with small town Saskatchewan is access to healthcare. Saskatchewan is different from Alberta in that it really only has two major population centers with extensive healthcare services. So it's a long drive depending where you live. As a kid in Saskatchewan for example even the nearest dentist was over an hour away. Fine in the summer but may as well been on the moon when the weather was bad in the winter. As you get older it's something to think about.

Hello Jack. Welcome to Saskatchewan. I was born and raised here. My Mother was an English war bride. When her relatives came here to visit they couldn’t get over how much space there is here. All of Saskatchewan has a little over 1 million people. When I went to England I couldn’t get over how many people there were there and not very much space. I got to see all the stuff I learned in history classes. England is a very old country and Canada is a very young country. I enjoyed this video. There are always pros and cons.

I’ve been to Regina quite a few times since I have moved here and it is such a great city. Hopefully we will see each other around in Saskatchewan!!

Having lived in Europe and now living in SK, the space is what I like here and it’s not just SK but the whole Canada. I don’t think I would have been able to build a house on an acreage in Europe unlike here in SK/Canada. And I love going to the lake in a cabin in summertime. As long as you can drive you can do more things in SK and waste less time travelling.

my husband and I are considering Saskatchewan just to get out of Ontario. Been in touch with a realtor and researching everything about province . We are ready to retire and just want to relax and take it easy in some quiet little town out there.

DON'T do it. I moved from Sask to Ontario to retire. There are plenty of small towns here to retire. The winters are way way better in Ontario and horrible in Sask. I remember January 1974. -45 degrees and a wind chill that made it -104 F. I had an old 64 Olds that I started up and it was running on 3 or 4 cylinders out of 8. I spit out the door of my house and it froze in the air before it hit the ground. My friend’s 12 year old sister froze to death 6 feet from her back door one winter. Fell in the snow, couldn’t get up and that was the end. And remember, Sask. provincial Income Taxes are much higher than Ontario's.

Take a look at Minnedosa, Manitoba. Heaven on earth. Population about 2400. Lake, beaches, ski hill, hiking trails, great people, etc.

Travelling by plane is easy though. Can be down to the US pretty quick. Quicker if you lived in Edmonton or Calgary but the people are friendlier in Sask. Winters you should get a 4x4 truck or an AWD suv.

10 years in sk first 3 were without vehicle . Moved to Toronto due to Job and Weather . Came back after one year as didn’t like to be there . Yes we have extreme winter -55 roads covered with snow for 6 month extra high UV levels but still I love sk don’t want to move anywhere .

The first complaint about how long it takes driving is stupid. Should we chop off land? Create new countries. Our country is huge. There are good things and bad things about it, but seriously? Of all the things to complain about you chose how long it takes to drive places. Thats not Saskatchewan, thats Canada as a whole.

He's from Europe!!! Different perspective, trust me. Europe is different. And when people loose much time in useless traveling, most Europeans consider that a waste of time. Unlike Canadians; who enjoy the scenery. Partly because you're used to it since birth, partly because the door limits, compared to Europe, are ridiculously low. Even highways, with Europeans have nicknamed lowways, because they aren't a high speed limit, but lots speed limit, and interstates are slow going for Europeans. I'm born in Europe, worked and lived in both continents, are both just don't understand the other side.

The cold is for reals - if you don't like the the cold, SK, is not for you. And transit is absolute crap - you'll need a car. In Saskatoon, crime is more on the west side and has increased over the last two decades. For me, I LOVE the space and the quiet - it's healing for the soul.

And.....I forgot to mention cross country skiing, ski-doing, downhill skiing, hockey games, rec hockey, street hockey, lacrosse, curling, snow boarding and wind surfing....not to mention snow shoeing.....or just plain bundling up and going for a walk in the clean, fresh, freezing air. Balaclava time!

So may i know which city/ province is better for work & living in canada.

I had been living in Saskatoon, SK from around 1997 to 2000. I kind of enjoyed studying there, meeting a lot of ppl Plus beer every Friday.

I visited Canada last month and traveled from Calgary to Saskatoon back to Calgary and got stuck at some mountainous dirt road and have to go through a wooden bridge..scary because I was the only car for several kilometers and felt more in danger. I’m use to the interstate system making road trips fun in the US. Also for a 6 and half hours trip, I only saw two major town along the way, “kindersley and rosetown” and they are very small town, the rest of the journey was just plain land

😂 I wonder where you went off the right path when you ended up on a “mountainous dirt road”! There are no mountains between the two cities, and the roads are all paved if you stay on them. 😅 Glad you made it! Perhaps it’s the Drumheller Valley you’re referring to, when you say “mountainous”.

There are dirt-roads around Dorothy and mountainous curves going down a valley and the worst is going through a wooden bridge to get off to the river to the other side…yes most of the lands are plain but that very area is scary, I wonder why gps takes people through there by default.

@@Mrs.LadeyBug go to your map and see Calgary to Dorothy ferry Bridge and you will see the curves and maybe not as mountainous as mountains but hills and valleys going through several of them plus they are dirt roads all the way, and that Dorothy ferry bridge is a wooden bridge with metal connectors above it. But once you get off the bridge and drive a little you get back to the highway 570.

The reason for #2 is #1. So many roads that it's hard to maintain them to high standards. And the reason you feel safe in Saskatchewan despite the high crime rate is because statistics are done on a per Capita (per 100,000 people) basis. So the small populations of the Cities reflect high crime rates even when less crimes are committed overall.

Hey, thanks for watching. It may be worth looking at some of the dealerships in Saskatoon to see if this is something they offer. I'm not sure how this would work though but it may be something they would offer. You could also look at buying a used car for those months and then selling it when your family move back. I think you can also find rent a car companies such as Enterprise- I think there is one at Saskatoon airport. I am not sure about how much this would cost though.

@@chinonsorita1008 I used to live in Prince Albert ( local's call it P.A.) It's a nice place, but it has it's problems like anywhere else. The west side was a bit rougher when I lived there, but that was years ago. The highway to Saskatoon is divided and even in winter is quite safe to drive. Keep in mind though, I've driven in winter all my life, the cold is no joke, it will kill you (preparation is the key). If you have any question, let me know, I'll try and answer them for you.

Good question, there are good places to study access Canada but Saskatchewan also has some pretty good places. I would recommend researching different courses based on what you want to study in Saskatchewan and then start from there. That way you will be able to see whether the course will meet your needs 😊 You may also want to reach out directly to different institutions!

saskatchewans an alright place but if you wanna move here just leave during the winter. go take a 5 month vacation when november rolls around. it feels like spring is just around the corner but its still so cold, windy, awful, depressing, i hate these winters

Could you plz share how did u land a job in Saskatchewan as an English man? I really wanna move to prairie provinces but it seems vast majority of the jobs are either in Toronto or Vancouver (for English speakers)😢

Thanks for watching! I work in Education, so I found getting a job fairly easy, although I have a special education and EdTech background which really helped. I also looked for jobs outside of Saskatoon and Regina to gain sone experience working in the province. With that said, I had to do some extra classes to get my teaching certification here. Not sure if this is helpful but I also had my PR prior to searching for jobs, and secured a job before I actually made the move. I actually delayed my move until I knew I could secure a job. For additional context, I initially applied for a 6 month contract rather than a full time permanent position as that can be difficult at first.

You might get a job as a dishwasher in a small resturant or maybe a janitor. Maybe pumping gas but most are self serve now.

It varies depending on where you live. In cities like Saskatoon and Regina it is better however in smaller cities, public transport is very limited. It may be okay in the short term but you would likely eventually need to get a car. Even in the bigger cities though (Saskatoon and Regina), you are limited to busses in terms of public transport. Unfortunately we don’t have metros like you would in other cities.

@@jackincanada163 As a Student, As I thinking to enroll myself into Saskatchewan (University of Regina) in Human resources management programme (2years diploma) that cost me around $15000 (fee of one year) Can i get a job within 2-3 months so that I can manage my expenses (livin' cost and 2nd years fee) I am not livin' in Canada (Currently in India) But As You are Living there in Same Location So it would be great if You help me out to have a Clarity of it... ❤️❤️

@@saritasuman7373 I would recommend contacting the University of Regina as they should have a student services team who can support you through the process. I believe you can work up to 20 hours per week on a student visa- I would research this as I am not 100% sure but I think this will allow you to at least work part time during your studies. If you do not have a car, I would also look at student accommodation or trying to find somewhere as close as possible to the university as the weather conditions can be extreme in the winter. Let me know how you get on! :)

saskatchewan is entirely full of small towns or pretty big towns so technically speaking, jobs here aren’t hard to find. really depends on if your taking business or something big where you should move to other places like B.C or Alberta. 😊

I've lived in Sask. my entire life. Can 100% confirm the roads are bad, during winter, the snow removal is abysmal, and public transportation is terrible. Only reason I'm still here is because the cost of living is very inexpensive compared to other provinces.

Yeah those are things here, but it’s really not that bad. I’ve lived here my whole life, I wouldn’t live anywhere else. We also have the nicest summers in Canada and it really is a payment for our terrible winters.

You might have missed Rider Express that covers most of Saskatchewan and goes to Edmonton, Calgary and BC 😅

I agree the roads are pretty terrible however that’s why people who live in the rural have a pickup truck or SUV. I once had a car here and boy I learned it’s not the best. I later switched to an SUV and had no real problems since.

Saskatchewan is primarily an agricultural province the bread basket of Canada unless your involved in agriculture especially grain production there isn’t much more to offer it is what it is ( why did you move there from London you should have moved to British Columbia or Ontario yes more Expensive but more on offer ) .

I moved to AB from Sask and I can say BC is by far the worst idea. Alberta has work, BC has nothing but expensiveness.

My mum and sister live in Foam Lake and I live in Moosomin. That is a close to a 6 hour round trip, and that doesn't include having someone ride my ass through the valleys north of Whitewood. If it is over an hour trip in Sask, you get tired.

I've been watching a few videos about Regina and plan on visiting around end of May or early June. How is the weather there around those months? It'll be a short trip, staying about four days. If anyone can recommend a list of activities to do it would really help. How is the night life? Have noticed watching other videos that after dark, evening, downtown looks really quiet. Does everything close early or is it more popular to visit the parks and wildlife trails? Thanks for any tips in advance, all the best

The weather will be sunny, around +20. As for things to do, you could visit parliament by the lake or take a day to go to one of the provincial parks nearby. I’m not sure about the nightlife

Night life in Regina basically speaks for itself. Average. Some clubs not too much, little more to do around May or June than there is now. They saying keep your nose clean and you’ll be okay usually applies to most cities, but sadly In Regina that’s not really the case, if you go out at night in Regina, be prepared for trouble to find you.

Summers are normally +20 to +30 can but can hit +35 or more. It’s a drier climate and can be quite windy at times and dead calm other times. Can get some good booming thunderstorms rolling though on occasion but pretty dry otherwise. We have the sunniest and some of the nicest summers in Canada.

Nights in Regina are like a grave yard. And if you see any native/aboriginal people, just run. I lost track of how many times I almost got beaten by natives...

Moved from Onterrible in 2017..Couldn't pay me to leave. Except maybe to a better climate in BC lol. Love it here.

CANADA as whole is big. Now saskatchewan i guess you are entilled of your opinion but i guess each province has pros and cons. Try to explore entire canada. I used to live in the north. Been to alberta multiple times, been to manitoba .i guess all you have to do is learn appreciate small things.

I live in Florida the winter

I was unfortunately born in Saskatchewan. The more I live here the more I hate this place. Not because the winters, I actually get seasonal depression in summer but it’s due to the lack of support for people like me. Living in rural Saskatchewan is hell, especially if you’re disabled or queer like me. On top of the poor mental health state, there is no mental health support system, a shit healthcare system (mind my language) and it’s an overall bad quality of life. I live in a dying town. Next 50 years it’ll probably be a ghost town. We have poor water quality, thankfully we can drink it but it’s bad. Food doesn’t get shipped out to us in winter because roads aren’t plowed, power grid fails all the time, etc. our infrastructure is so bad and this isn’t even in far North Saskatchewan. It’s worse up there. Our government doesn’t do a single thing about it either. After I’m done college I’m moving out north where I’ll have a better time. I refuse to live in a city but in northern BC I’ll at least have food, basic facilities like hospitals and a chance at life. I don’t have that here. I don’t have that in any of the prairie provinces to be honest.

Hey, great question! If you have permanent residency you should be able to move anywhere within Canada, in my case I definitely can live anywhere within Canada so I’m assuming it would be the same☺️ On the Canada website, it says: ‘Yes, you can. As a permanent resident, you have the right to live, work or study anywhere in Canada. However, if you became a permanent resident through the Provincial Nominee Program, the province that nominated you has chosen you to bring skills to their province’ www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1113&top=6

Everywhere in Canada is develop…this opinion is simply a comparison from one type of apple to another type of apple however they are all apples. Coming from the US I think I see myself really doing well in Saskatchewan without moving anywhere it depends on what interest me

We moved in Saskatchewan under provincial nomination program . But when husband’s company was closed due he was jobless for 10 months and everyone was saying don’t move as moving ll cancel our PR . I called the immigration office and he laughed on the concept that we can’t move he said we can move and work anywhere as we have PR. Only difference if ll make if we want to sponsor under the same program we won’t be to as we are not residing in the province .

I’ve lived in SK for 8 years now. Moving out of this province soon and I can’t wait. Not a province I would recommend to anyone

They got rid of the buses recently. That’s too bad. My guess is you’re in North Battleford. Near Some great lakes.

Get used to it buddy. The weather doesn't get better and the crime rate is not going to dissipate soon. Just be on the alert and be careful where you hang out at night. One great thing about our province is the friendly people. Everybody is always willing to lend a helping hand. Also, you will find that there is always some event, concert, car show, drama going on in Regina and Saskatoon. All you have to do is go online to find out. I would have thought one of your biggest complaints would be teaching our disruptive classes. Unless your discipline is akin to that of Margaret Thatcher, you're going to have trouble with classroom control. I speak from experience. Anyway, good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine. For sure we'll be avoided in a nuclear war. We'll just have to put up with the bloody fallout.

Saskatchewan kids respond better to tough discipline, especially us farm folk in the smaller towns. Our parents raise(d) us to be disciplined and stoic. If you’re softer on students, they’ll eat you for dinner.

Really, our winters aren’t anything worse than Alberta or Manitoba. If you want to see real cold, go to NWT or the Yukon.

Hes been here 6 months. Starting in january. Meaning he still hadnt even been herea FULL winter. He missed at least 2 months.

Yup everything of interest is too far away. Yea the roads suck. And yes it's pretty boring around here. Yes jobs are rare. Yes winter never ends! Meh not much crime really. Yes its difficult to get around.

Hey, thanks so much for watching! In my case, it was because I did not have a class in Social Studies and Canadian History, Geography or Indigenous studies. I have been able to get a temporary permit while I am doing these classes though. Just for context- I did a SCITT and a PGCE (top up) in England. Doing a SCITT added some complexities, so having the PGCE really helped. I did hear about some people applying to teach in PEI and then in other provinces because it seems to be a little bit easier to meet those requirements in PEI. Let me know if you need any support with this process :-) .

I have people help me in urban areas. Why do boring people in hick towns think getting help from neighbors or strangers is great or special? Many times rural people are bored or useless and a pack of them will approach without tools or qualifications and turn the alleged help into a social event.

It takes resilience to live in Sk - the Province has many positives if u want to discover them. I tire of ppl who have nothing but criticism for our fine Land of Living Skies. No we are not just flat prairie land - there is so much more that our Province has to offer. We offer winter & summer events - lots of diversity. Lots of options for outdoor activities. Sledding, skiing, sailing, swimming, camping, hiking, snowmobiling, snow boarding, museums, concerts, art, music... on & on. If u can't handle the differences that are unique to our Province I will gladly encourage you to move on.

Lol I lived in Sask for 15 years and I think social activities and quality of life in Sask are actually terrible. It cold, flat, no major festivals other than craven country jamboree which most young people dont wanna go to. The same social events happen every year. People are closed minded too and little room for career advancement if you are not working in government. This guy will eventually move to another province…just give it time.

Most people I grew up with wanted to move away because most people I know from Sask are in a rut. I left to Alberta and never looked back. Sask is depressing.

the roads in canada suck , and our ontario leader gave us free license stickier but does not fix the potholes . he did get reeelected though.

Well if the population is lower, that means there's less people applying for those jobs right? Should be easier to get a job? Try Vancouver, the population higher so you get get 300 applications for one job and then when you go for interview, there's 6 people sitting at the table interviewing you😲

Highest crime rate? You haven't seen Ontario I think. The highest and biggest crimes are there in QC and ON.

I was born in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan and I have lived in Saskatchewan all of my life. We are the only province in Canada that has twinned the entire highway #1 from east to west. Also I’m married to a Brit from the greater Manchester area hence the Ramsbottom name. Sure the weather can be harsh in the winter but we have no hurricanes very few tornadoes and no earthquakes…and no where near as much rain as England so stop your whingeing! 😋

Maybe if the city will develop more commercial businesses like food, entertainment and other fun activities to do,well the winter will be feel less,to feel warmer ofcoarse.. and this is only my opinion anyway. :)

Many immigrants come here to get PR and citizen, then move to other province like AB, some leave out of country for good.

OK I gotta chuckle, are you having trouble with too many people wanting into SK? Ngl, as a Montanan, if I go to other provinces than SK, I just make jokes about it, those Albertans love that lol

Sk is made for manly men, not soy boys. In small towns, we make the winter fun with snowmobiles and ice fishing, snowboarding. Summers are amazing with mud trucks and Quads, feasting on Grade A Beef, chugging ice cold beer. Brits are not made for our rugged wonderland.

I have to say your video started off great put after a few minutes I just stopped because you seem to be confused with your title and I think using Clickbait is a kind of stupid way to get attention. You actually moved there to teach. You should’ve just said that in the very beginning, so, your comment about distances and how far it is also it’s a little amateur because Canada is a massive country and you should’ve known this before you moved there, so do some work on your content and maybe use a title such as why I moved to Canada, and now regret it, rather than what your title is, sorry if you’re offended by my comment, but I like to be straight to the point when I watch people talking, I’ve travelled all over the world and I would never moan about the things you did when I’ve consciously travelled to a place

I guess before list bad things about Saskatchewan, you should know the rest of the country before making this video. You will have a big perspective about it. Long drives are because the country is big. Otherwise, go to live to Guatemala or Belize ! Small population, les income on taxes to repair all the roads, but it is cheaper than other places that you mentioned, here it is possible buy a house, the rate of crimen is base on population and what kind of crimen, some crime you can not notice, I lived in Alberta before Saskatchewan and There are places in Alberta you can feel not safe. Vancouver has too many drugs for our kids compared with any place from Saskatchewan.

SK is the coldest and most criminal province in Canada

everything is spot on mate, born and raised in SK. and i still hate it here tons of racism most likely because it’s farming agricultural people but SK past goes back further into its support for the KKK not surprising. a lot of First Nation aka indigenous people are good people don’t believe everything you’ve seen in movies/tv shows especially from the early 1960s-70s and so forth

1: Too much space? I hate crowds and most people are irritating. I like the sparse population. Want to go somewhere, drive there. Traffic isn’t bad. 2: The roads suck because this is a big area with a small population. There are more miles of road per person than any other jurisdiction in the world. Given that fact, I think our roads aren’t that bad. 3: There’s tons of things to do. In summer there’s swimming, camping, and fishing. In winter, there’s skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling. 4: There are tons of blue collar jobs. Maybe not so much for white collar jobs. Comes with the territory. This is the West, not friggin Toronto. 5: Winters aren’t bad. It’s the wind that gets you. I think it keeps the wimps away. Winter is no better in Alberta or Manitoba. 6: Crime rate? In the cities, especially in the scummy areas sure. Still, I would rather be in a city in Saskatchewan than one in BC or Ontario. Where I live, crime is non existent. 7: Public transport? Buy a vehicle like everyone else. Look at our population. We can’t afford that stuff.

You are so misinformed! Saskatchewan is not so so so big... CANADA IS SO SO SO BIG. Traveling takes forever. Airfare is expensive. Because Canada is huge! Do you know your geography at all?

Yes. It is the worst. No social life. People are pretend friendly. Everyone trying to get one of the very few jobs. The health system is an absolute crisis. Nurses simply ditching. No loyalty. People just over coddle dogs cause they have zero else.

I was born and mostly raised in Saskatchewan... people are messed up there. If they are not Roman catholic hypocrits then they are just judgmental. Taxes are 3rd highest in the country with the lowest minimum wage. Rent is no different than Alberta with no provincial tax. Everything is crown corporation do you have no competition with utilities so you pay what they want you to pay. All of this and Saskatchewan has every natural resource from the most usable uranium to oil to every grain seed needed. Makes no sense to me. That province and its people are all a joke
