Why You Should Be Worried About Facebook's Metaverse | System Error

On December 6, Facebook was sued for its role in facilitating the genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
The Facebook Papers revealed how the company chased profits - often at the expense of safety.
So can we trust Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse won't become a tool for misinformation and surveillance?

The “””poorly””” socialized people are the ones studying human interactions so they can make great things before the “””normal””” people even know they want it. The core of the problem is Facebook needs the information bubble in order to maximise monetisation from online presence. Unless you drastically change the underlying algorithm, no amount of policing will help. This change would automatically halve the company's revenue, which is why it will never happen.

The general term of metaverse (not Zuck's own "Meta" and attempt to monopolize on it) may prove to be an exciting and well integrated piece of technology and CREATIVITY for our current systems. If it does not remain free (which we struggle with in this regular 3d reality across the entire planet) then we will notice it to a LARGER EXTENT I believe. The digital realm of gaming has been virtually unscathed by advertisements and money grabs (enter World of Warcraft followed by its predecessors). Yet, if "gaming" consists of too many unpopular real world monopolies and or CONTROL tactics, there will be an uprising to protect our identities and individual rights to the constitution and personal sovereignty. I believe this is a struggle we are CURRENTLY playing ▶️ out, and the end result is yet to be determined. We will need to stand up to ANYONE and ANYTHING who attempts to break our democracy, who attempts to own us and our information. Ready Player 1 is real, The Matrix is real, 1984 is as well. Value your rights, your worth! We can do away with corporate greed owning us, our politics, our very way of being. Steer the course, love 💜, and question everything you're being told! This is the war of information age. Nothing is as it seems. Hopefully we will figure out this ethereal space before we head into another- the metaverse. F off Zuckerberg! Creative love ❤️‍🔥🏞️💙 will put you into the ground!

In my language, the expression is a colloquialism, not intended to be taken literal and is often used in a joking context. FB flagged it as "incinting to violence". I've been blocked two other times, for very similar reasons. Made an appeal everytime, to no avail. They don't even bother to acknowledge they are wrong. They couldn't spend even half of their wealth if they tried. Do they really think this is what the world needs? If they truly think they're helping anyone other than themselves, I think we all need to re-think how we view intelligence. At the end of the day, Facebook and Google have proven time and time again that they shouldn't be allowed to control a market and it keeps happening. These guys are allowed to operate any way they choose so we either have to put a stop to it or just stop complaining about it.

@@young98-cc5ls We are not intelligent. Innocent people got stabbed at the capital in November 2020 by according to those who got stabbed, BLM. Even a black woman who called the whole group out was one of those attacked and the media wouldn't report the truth of it because it wasn't the narrative to be used and used to use minorities for their votes. Yet the "insurrection" had not a single person killed other than a single baited attacker who was found to be with a bunch of antifa. Unless you count more than one cop that witnessed the whole thing and got "suicided" or had what was called a "natural" heart attack due the "trauma." Like cops have never faced trauma before the is so dumb you're not intelligent if you fall for it. Sure, that's what happened, an insurrection where a million others in diverse unity stood around and sang worship songs and listened to Trump call for PEACE while it was going on and that group and Trump are to blame? Really? Tell me more? Try to do it without repeating what you heard is true or using edited clips with narratives over them. I didn't even like Trump till 2020 when I saw what was going on against him that WASN'T REAL. Funny how the "full" videos showed the whole thing was baited with paid, some even confessed to it and they were willing to go to jail by being truthful, and most Trump supporters had to fight the people trying to attack, full video shows this, while security was told to LEAVE and they LEFT AS TOLD!!! Wake up and prove your intelligent enough not to fall for this stuff. There was an attack, but it was on our intelligence. Notice how this is trending with fewer than 200,000 views but actual truth with a million views in a day can't even make the trending list and gets removed swiftly, if you're falling for the above video as pure fact and not fact mixed with prop a gan da to push cen sor ship, you're not intelligent, your controlled, baited, and used. Just so people understand: in the metaverse (which is just a glamorous name for VR), we move our bodies and heads. This data about why, when and how we move and how we react, can then be used by governments in the real world, through surveillance cameras for example, by pairing it with Artificial Intelligence, to predict how we will behave even before we have taken the decision to do something. And secondly. There is no agency in charge or otherwise that is genuinely “interested” in investigating and controlling or “policing” organizations like Facebook, because they know at the end of the day that organization’s such as Facebook are and have always been essential to control mechanism’s such as, but not limited to nation states. And lastly controlled opposition is a business plan not a deterrent. if they really had a problem with organization such as these they would be eliminated and not allowed to exist as has been the example time and time again when something doesn’t serve a desired public Narrative.

I think that sometime soon, maybe in 50 years, we're going to look back at how we use social media at this moment, in a similar way to how we now view people that smoked cigarettes in the past. people used to think cigarettes were fine, it wasn't until later that medical science caught up and realized what was happening. but now it's a psychological issue instead, and as our knowledge in that field advances, I think we're going to discover just how deleterious social media is to our mental health. then we'll be shocked we didn't have the common sense to see it at the time, the same way it seems so obvious that people should have known how bad smoking was half a century ago. just a guess.

As a south african, when we experienced the July riots this year, misinformation and false claims were sent through Facebook and other social media owned by Facebook. This caused mass panic and infighting. I saw this with my own eyes.

do you think FB is responsible for the post of their users? do they have to check every post for the truth? dont anyone realize this is riddiculous? how can anyone do such massive investigation upon everything? it the fault of the people trusting the sources/posters not FB, cmon have some common sense, if this doesn't sink in, then no wonder you and your fellow SA people are so easily swayed by just simplistic misinformation

@Yashik Rupnarain, please accept my deepest condolences and apology for the greed that Facebook is. Unfortunately, real news needs to be reported by UN-SPONSORED network (my fave is LINK TV) The independent network just report what happens and where. Corporations control our airwaves for the most part. It’s obviously pure greed. The huge majority of Americans citizens are aware now. Peace and blessings to South Africa🇿🇦

You don't blame the tool used by criminals. This is similar to when the gvt used 911 to tap into phone calls. This is the gvt's way of getting more access and control over your Facebook and personal data.

@@themisterier why do people act like software becomes some wild uncontrollable creature? You realize software has to be constantly maintained, right? It is developed and maintained by people 24/7? Do you know what software is? They have MORE than enough infrastructure to take down harmful stuff that causes literal wars but they care more about $$$. They already take down sooo much but they ignore critical content on purpose so people visit the site more. You could make the argument that Facebook shouldn’t be responsible for illegal pictures but tell me how many times have you seen illegal pictures on Facebook? I doubt ever. But if this doesn’t sink in, no wonder you and your fellow Facebook loving people are so easily self absorbed into your own ass to think you know everything and that everything is as simple as you think.

Same here I am not on any of those and have never been but I am not so sure about myself since I use WhatsApp which is a very cheap medium of communication for me and I have no choice but to use it so I think somehow they will extend that to WhatsApp and maybe even KZread if possible. Anyway I don't understand how this whole thing works so I am just making wild assumptions though I feel the safest people are those who never use any online platforms.
