Why THIS Is The Most Dangerous Car Ever Made (R.I.P. Paul Walker)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, it’s a Supercar unplugged.
It’s one of the most exquisite ….. Shocking ….. And diabolical cars to ever leave a factory.
What started life as a secret underground project aimed squarely at taking on the unforgivable and brutal 24 hours of lemans, would ultimately be left abandoned by its maker.
That is of course until the madmen at Porsche stripped it down for parts, repurposed the technology, and gave the world the absolute pinnacle of analog supercars.
This is the AUTOMOTIVE LEGEND with a heart stolen straight from a Formula 1 racer.
A car synonymous with pure excitement and untamable personality
So much personality in fact, that, Jay Leno, The Stig and even racing legend Walter Rohl couldn’t keep it from biting them on track.
It has a clutch light enough to stall almost constantly without proper experience…. an engine imported directly from the automotive GODS
And a seemingly ILLEGAL lack of electronic assists
It’s brutal and pure, it’s beauty AND the beast
It’s the Porsche Carrera GT.

I remember the backlash of this car during Paul Walker's passing. The negativity surrounding the car was heard. I also remember this car being one of the most OP vehicles to own in NFS Most Wanted within that same timeline. Pretty weird time then.

I wonder how it would perform with something like a set of Michelin Cup 2’s? Tire technology has come a long way since this car came out.

I drove a CGT at LeMans Bugatti just after the launch. Without doubt the best road car I have ever driven, however the chassis created more grip capability than the road tyres at the time could handle. This led to the car having ‘hair trigger’ like behaviour in fast corners which required relatively high skill levels to manage. We were there testing the then new 911GT3RS which was an incredibly quick car at the time. The CGT was considerably quicker even in road set up. Tyre technology has now moved in considerably and these issues have been resolved. In my opinion, the CGT is the absolute pinnacle of the analog super car. It is without equal - but it requires a driver with decent skill levels to master it. Which - for a pure super car - is as it should be

See. This was always my feeling. There was no issue with the car. The issue was under qualified drivers. Porsche had a long history of making absolute weapons. In the right hands perfectly safe. Hell people crash their regular production cars at an alarming rate. No fault of the car. Solely driver error.

  • @krissolson7043

@@LexusLFA554 The Corvair was only slightly worse than other cars at the time. They were all terribly dangerous. The low cost and rear engine made the corvair an easy target to push for car safety improvements since it was easy for people to run out of talent in them while also being a lot of them out there. Any other car contemporary to it could have been the target if the Corvair wasn't there, but it would have been a harder argument to make with a traditional car.

I can understand the lack of electronic assists, wanting to make it a "pure", old-school sports / race car, but I wasn't aware that it had no airbags. That seems to me like an unnecessary omission. Sure it would have added *some* weight, but I'd personally consider that "necessary for a road car"-levels of weight. Seems about the same as driving a race car wearing a leather helmet just for the sake of "doing it like in the olden days". It crosses the line between risk vs. reward. But maybe that's just me...

Furthermore you discuss its competitors like the F1 McLaren, the Enzo, the Bugatti etc. The Carrera GT put Porsche back on the market and hypercar arena as the 959 was too limited in its production a la the Ferrari 288 GTO. I am in the minority. I love Ferrari but have never liked the F 40. I would take the Carrera GT anyday over an F 40.

3:35 never knew the v10 version of the porsche f1 project reached 760 hp. thats what williams renault and mclaren honda (the two very best teams from that era) were making at that time (1991/1992). very impressive number! don't know why it was rejected even by small teams. weight maybe?

Porsche never admit this car not safe for public road....feels like they don't want to waste the failed sports project and redesign it purposely release for public to cut down losses.(I prefer hard top for this type of chassis)

A Automobiles enthusiast and a hyper car driver knows a hyper car of V10 and a Rear wheel drive drivetrain can be driven only Racetrack or Tarmac road conditions only with minimal traffic but Porsche Carrera was completely built only for Racetrack conditions., today the hyper cars are made with All wheel drive drive train so that it can be driven on normal minimal traffic condition with less risk and better traction control., that’s the only reason why carrera gt was stopped to be a production car from Porsche.
