The Lord President of the Council carries the sword. He usually wears a black robe with gold embroidered laurels. Penny, who was the Lord President, decided to change up the colour and lady it up with laurels on the headpiece. She looked fabulous.

Dark teal blue was perfect! Black would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Excellent choice and great 1540s throwback on the headpiece, knocked it out of the park! Allow me to commend Penny on her devotion to duty by the extensive physical preparation for this role. That sword didn't budge a millimeter and Penny looked like a gliding angel the whole time.

Yep the heaver than the combat version sword was carried very well. Ceremonial weapons mostly are heaver and larger than those actually used in combat. And some of the stuff added to them is denser thus heaver than steel.

Teal color is the symbol of high heart. I love this color, it not blue no green, it teal. It means space of love. Blue=space, green= love, giving inconditional, like nature.

Did you notice that the fern-like design embroidered on her dress and hat were a motif from the old court uniform of a privy councillor that her predecessors in the office wore?

She was absolutely stunning and so digified. She was the best choice to perform this beautiful part of the coronation.

The most important part was, she did not steal the show. No flashing smiles for the photographers, no elegant moves. She did her job ... as a job, not a performance. No man would be allowed to dress in blue and gold (except priests, of course), so there's no comparison with her predecessors on that point. I will say, she looked the part and had complete control of the situation, though neither because of or in spite of being a woman, but because of her competence, disciplin and training.

She has a history of military training in the reserves and used the colour Teale to pay tribute to them. She also did plenty of press ups as training to be able to hold the historic sword aloft for 2 hours without flinching, she put much of the discipline down to her military experience standing completely still.

Being that I live outside of Philadelphia, I’ve never seen Penny before, but as I watched the coronation, I was very impressed with her focus and dignity as she exercised those duties. I am not surprised a bit that she has military experience.

Let's not forget Other MPs from across the House have served full time or also as Reserves after there time in the military and most of them where officers who went to Sandhurst for (Army) Dartmouth (RN) or RAF (I forget there officer training name), who paid for there education,The Tax payer, Officer Training Short Contract. Pot and Kettle. At least She signed the line. Most including Labour MPs have been to Oxbridge so do not try to tar one as if all others are working class 98%in there are all University Educated.

She was an incredible class act and her choice of fashion was top notch. She was absolutely exquisite and really shined in her role. Bravo from an average 🇺🇸 chick

It's her position in the current Tory government, if labour had been in power during this coronation it would have been one of the MPs doing it. She's technically part of the government and cabinet but she is not a secretary of state, she's the lord of the king's privy council. The role is the link between the government, the commons and the crown. Your point of her being a Tory is ridiculous, of course she's a Tory her role is part of the government, so it's a Tory in the role. My days do you ever stop and think to check your facts before you start to type or talk? Penny Mordaunt came close to being the Prime Minister of the UK after Boris Johnson. The appointment eventually went to Liz Truss, who made the spiteful decision to demote Penny to "bury" Penny by appointing her to what she thought was an obscure ceremonial office. She didn't evidently realise the prominence of the role in Accession Council and in the Coronation. Truss was as incompetent in her political appointments as in everything else.

Ms. Mordaunt was stunning in her role as sword-bearer for the king. She looked like a Valkyrie-Caryatid. That blue-grey outfit with gold classical wreaths was ultra-appropriate. Like every other aspect of the holy ritual, her performance was flawless and inspired.

She was the one I could not take my eyes off! She was perfection🏛️

I found Penny Mordaunt's role hugely significant in this crowning of a constitutional monarch. I was thinking throughout of her as the representative of the Commons, the vast swathe of ordinary citizens and voters, who are citizens first, subjects second. @conniehopkins6105 you may not know that our King reigns as a constitutional monarch, at the agreement of the ordinary people as represented by the government, who ultimately have control over the direction of the country. We allow the monarchs to reign reasonably (and beheaded Charles I who didn't), and don't allow any King or Queen to speak any political view, which only belongs to us voters. That limit on the King/Queen is what allows us to enjoy coronation spectacles.

Her outfit is perfect; Don’t really care for the cape dress normally but it fit perfectly with the bishops in chasubles and everyone else in robes. The tone was perfect and she did a fantastic job.

She carried out that role perfectly. Her choice of dress style and the colors were magnificent! The designer deserves an award! And the embroidery on the gown and head Fascinator definitely pulled the whole costume together and made the look excel a past gone era. Just gorgeous!

Her mother died of cancer when Penny was 15.

Penny was magnificent! Could not stop watching her. So glad to know she as in the military. So wonderful.

With steely steadfast strength, blue dressed and blonde adorned buxom belle - Penny - held a golden glow of fern and hair over the proceedings. She was proud and poised, her taste and elegance were flawless and that sword could not have been better carried and presented. She was stunning, and her performance was compelling from start to finish.

I thought Ms. Mordount’s outfit was stunning and now that I know more of her backstory, I’m even more impressed. Well done to her. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I also forgot to mention that Penny went to a comprehensive secondary school she is a normal person ie one of us. She also is the MP for Portsmouth.

She definitely caught my eye and impressed me with her appearance and her stalwart decorum and attention to the coronation traditional ritual. Well done!!!

I loved her outfit....classy.

As leader of the House of Commons her role is very significant as she represents all the common people of England.

Er, no. Her role was in her capacity as Lord President of the Privy Council, not as Leader of the Commons. In the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the sword bearer was the Lord President of the Privy Council at that time, who was Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 5th Marquess of Salisbury, a member of the House of Lords.

She holds the Office of Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons---two offices which are hers irrespective of the monarch. So the holder of the offices fulfills the duties which she fulfilled. You cannot bar her because she is female. Plus they were crowning a female so....

Very classy lady. I am in awe of her ability to hold that sword upright without wavering for so long.

Penny what a lady and so professional truly wonderful.

Penny did a superb job!!! As for her outfit....WOW !!! Simple, elegant class...

Also buried amongst all of that is the revival of the Arthurian legend of the Lady of The Lake that gave Excalibur to the Monarch.... Hence the aquatic colouration.

She pulled off an exquisitely beautiful rendition of Catherine Deneuve…nearly impossible to do for a mere mortal woman!

Her choice of outfit was both lovely on her and very striking, befitting to the occasion. The gold fern gave it just the right embellishment without being ostentatious.

I do not know how she could hold the Sword of State up for the length of time she did,she was amazing and dignified throughout.
