The scissor kick technique is still relevant today in the high jump because it is an important training tool.
4 Advantages of Using the Scissor Kick in Practice
1) It mimics a high jump approach at full speed.
2) It makes an athlete jump using a penultimate step.
3) It helps the athletes keep their shoulders away from the bar and torso upright during the takeoff.
4) Most importantly - It makes the athlete drive their knee.
The scissor kick used in practice prevents an athlete from diving into the bar during a Fosbury flop high jump.

    Good video. There are many out there that are not aware that the flop is derived from the scissor method.

    Hi.....I'm having trouble in high jump....my hips are getting touched at 3.10 ft with scissor technique. Can you let me know the best technique i can make a successful jump?

Make sure you have a consistent approach 2. Make sure your takeoff and takeoff angle is correct. 3. Driving your knee and allowing your jump leg to cycle through.

    This drill helps a high jumper drive their knee which is key to performing the “flop” or the back bend properly.

    @@highjumphelp8090 well, how not try to flop and exercise the knee ? using the scissor technique for improving the take off stage might lead to bad habits, the body movement just before and after the take off is not exactly the same

    We have found that athletes have a hard time focusing on their knee drive when performing a “flop”. The scissor kick allows an athlete to focus solely on the knee drive.
