2:05 Used to be a fentanyl and meth addict, I'm over a year and a half sober from it now. A big reason opiates and fent got so popular was because of the opioid epidemic, over prescribing opiate pain med got more people addicted to opiates in general, and know a few people who ended up using fent because an injury, then because the withdraw is so bad ffom opiates they turned to finding fent on the streets. Let me stress how deadly fentanyl is. Heroin addicts didn't used to die this often this frequently, because they knew what they were doing and would only overdose and die when they got careless and did too much. With fentanyl you can do waaayyy to much even if you're trying to just test the dope. Where I'm from they sold them in stamp bags, and each bag contained 1 dose of fent and sold for $4-$10 per bag. If you have a tolerance, I've seen people do 14 bags all at once and just get high. I've also seen people with no tolerance shoot 1/6th of a bag and almost died if there was no narcan in the house. One reason I got into hard drugs is because of people exaggerating that "One hit is all it takes to kill you" which is technically true, but when you do coke occasionally, maybe some molly and smoke weed, you get the idea that it's being exaggerated. Fentanyl is the exception. It can and will kill you if you're not careful, and it really is only a few grains of fent that it takes to kill you. A $4 bag of fent really does have the potential to kill 5 people, and it's a pain to get off of cause once your body is addicted it feels like you're going thru a mega flu and your whole body is in pain, cold sweats and all that, which is why people stay on the drug even when it almost kills them and makes them miserable

Anytime I even have a passing thought about what it would be like to try a chemical addiction I think about the redditor SpontaneousH, who wrote about his experiences trying heroin and in his arrogance it taking away 6 years of his life, all of his friends and family, and him still suffering from the effects. That series of posts was more effective than years of D.A.R.E.

heroine deaths would mainly spike when supply lines become clearer either from smugglers finding new ways or law enforcement letting up. users who had been dealing with cut product would OD when it suddenly became purer and didn’t know to lower their dose. now OD numbers basically just reflect how much fentanyl there is in the market

Ironically, making a sports anime is a possible way to get the youth to be interested in that sport in particular. Japan had that happen with a manga (that became an anime later on) called Slam Dunk, their interest in basketball grew a ton when it was being published (in the 90s) and the demographic of young Japanese people playing Basketball increased significantly. If I remember correctly it is still one of the most played sport there. It is a bit of an exception tho because there, "anime" is what's watched instead of western-style cartoon. So it wouldn't become as mainstream for NA kids.
