I think a big reason that smaller European guards haven't succeeded is that they tend to play like more traditional point guards and lack the scoring punch required from heavy ball-handling guards in the modern NBA. When Campazzo played on Denver teams guarding him on pick and rolls would go under the screen and dare him to shoot pull-up jumpshots everytime, which he was always very hesitant to do. Teosic was a better three point shooter from what I remember but that's definitely why Campazzo didn't last. Edit: I'm aware Vezenkov is a wing player I'm just referring to the other European players who didn't pan out mentioned in the video

I don't think Vezenkov is failing; he's adjusting. The NBA is a faster game than the Euroleague and Sasha has commented on this several times. Also, his teammates are still learning how to utilize his talents because he can definitely shoot. However, he's a bit slow-footed and not a great defender, but once he learns Mike Brown's defensive scheme, you can tell he has a high BB IQ on the floor and he'll be fine on the defensive end. Likewise, there are many times teammates don't see him cutting to the cup or miss those simple plays off a screen that you showed here. They don't know what he is doing and you can see him explaining this to Sabonis or Fox. I think this year is a grace period for him to learn and build chemistry with his new teammates, and then I expect him to explode next year and be ready for a bigger role IMO. He's not failing.....he's acclimating and adjusting because coming to a new country, culture, team, and a new game is not easy for anyone. He'll be a great player by next year!

Turning to the EuroLeague alone to scout for talent is massively outdated now. Because of the way the EuroLeague is set-up not every great player is in the EL. Out of the 18 teams, 13 of them are permanent while the rest are wildcards and champs from EuroCup and ABA League. So, most of the great clubs from Europe's national leagues play in the FIBA Champions League and FIBA Europe Cup (after they began in 2016) where all clubs have an equal shot at promotion or relegation. Nowadays the EL clubs, who are by default richer, typically pillage players from the other clubs after they've proven themselves in the two FIBA leagues, but by the time any NBA scout could look at them in the EL they're either much older or they're comfy staying there. Another thing we've been seeing lately is that when said clubs fall out of the FIBA Europe Cup, they opt for the EuroCup as their second option. If NBA teams want to scout of young talent that are actually hungry they need to pay attention to the Champions League, Europe Cup, Spanish league (ACB), Turkish league (BSL) and ABA League because that's where most of the prospects are. The teams should have people on payroll overseas whose part-time job is paying attention to that year-round. I want to see every NBA team or their G-League affiliate sign overseas players every year, not every few years.

All teams in Europe can play in EuroLeague. It's a myth that they can't. Teams like Zenit, Monaco, and Virtus came from not even existing or playing in second or even third national divisions to EuroLeague within several years. It's a complete myth that not every team can be in EuroLeague. They can. All they have to do is spend a certain amount of money and have a good arena, and then get some good results in whatever league they are in. The will even take teams that are just a few years old. Also, the Champions League and Europe Cup also have wild card teams and also have teams with contracts.

Hard time for Sasha receiving multiple DNPCD for some Kind of reasons: 1st Mike Brown this Season values Defense more than Offenes (without success so far). 2nd Trey Lyles playing very well of the bench lately hitting 3s beeing physical, drawing charges etc & eating up all of Sasha's min ... 3rd Kings doesn't draw up many or call many specific plays mostly rely on some kind of motion offense what makes it very hard for any new Player to gel in imediatly..it takes time on the floor do so especially for a player like Sasha who needs to be found by his Teammates in the right spots to succeed. All in all rite now he's the odd man out :( but i'm still optimistic that can change within the season he needs to be pationt and wait for his shot ...Lyles injured himself last Game so he might see another opertunity soon...also it was told Kings are open to trade Harrison Barnes what would open up a lot of min at the wing ..another option for sure is Sasha himself can be part of a trade sending him to a team with less ambition to instand success where he finds more freedom and minutes to adjust his game to the NBA but i think thats not very likely after Kings pushing so hard for him whole summer...i think Monte McNair still has a lot of faith in him succeeding in a Kings uniform

I am a clippers fan so I watched a lot of Teodosic. I feel like his failure was more due to the situation of the team at the time. The clippers signed him right after the CP3 trade. He was good to start the season, but after Griffin was traded, the direction of the team did not mix with his talents. The team gave up on the season for the future when he was signed to help with a championship run. In that following draft, the Clippers drafted two pgs, SGA and Robinson, with back to back picks. With Pat Bev still on the roster, it was over from there. If Griffin was never traded, they could have made a solid 1 2 punch.

He just needs to adjust to this team style of play, even if he had gone to Real Madrid or generally to an other team(Euroleague or Nba) he needs time and some "green light" from his coach. It's difficult for a player of any level to be such productive, in a short 10 minutes of play, such as in 25+ minutes.. Also coaches belief on players is really important on new prospects, the players need to know that coaches trust them and they can let them play without switching them for making a turnover or a bad shot.. I believe especially for Vezenkov that he needs just the green light and probably he can be one of the best role players (even a sixth man).

Vezenkov is definitely not the best defender, but he is a very smart player with deep understanding of basketball and of course a very good offensive player, so it’s very unfortunate that Vezenkov is doing only DNP and definitely not something that coach Brown should be proud of. At the end of the day Brown chose him after he travelled a lot of times to see him in Greece, talk with him personally etc. and he actually promised to Vesenkov that he would have a serious role in the Kings. We will see in the future, maybe he manages to adapt, if not Olympiakos would gladly take him back

Sasha's defence was suspect even for the Euroleague standards where he mostly played at PF and SF positions (not a swingman as stated in this video). NBA PF's are too strong for him to defend while most SF's will be too fast. He's a great perimeter shooter but the 7.25m 3 point arc will definitely hinder that so it al comes up on scoring vs recieving.Unless he finds a good fit on some other team or upgrades his game, he looks like another euro player who's weaknesses make him a bad fit for the NBA...and that's not bad actually

Kings fan here 👑 I think he hasn’t gotten enough opportunity to show his game off yet. When he does get minutes it’s a very small amount where he seems like he needs to prove he’s capable of getting minutes like Keon Ellis did a while ago during garbage minutes. This causes sasha to just shoot the 3 ball recklessly. I think when he plays he does fairly well on defense which surprised many Kings fans. Unfortunately for Sasha and the Kings, right now isn’t the best time to learn how to play the style to satisfy him like the Olymipiacos did but time is on his side.

He’s failing because they won’t play him. He should be playing a lot of minutes with Sabonis with his off ball movement but I knew it would be an uphill climb for him when the Kings brought back both Harrison Barnes and Trey Lyles. Since Huerter fell off the face of the earth, Sabonis has lost his favorite dribble hand off targets. Sasha could be his guy but I don’t see it happening now. He’ll probably be traded at the deadline. He’s looked good. Surprisingly it’s his shooting that hasn’t quite come along yet. Most everything else is better than we expected. Even his defense

He is more evidence to show that having useful skills is far more valuable than just being an all around pretty good player. There are lots of guys in the lesser leagues who are better 1 on 1 basketball players than a good chunk of the NBA, but they aren’t good enough to do it in the league and their support skills aren’t good enough to justify keeping them around. That is why Davis Bertans has been in the NBA for so long and made so much money while Mario Hezonja is stuck in Europe.

There are quite some differences between European Basketball and NBA. In NBA the ball handler ends up 1 against all or 1 against 2 or 3 in a drive. You shoot 3 pointers from as far as you can. Regular season is less important in NBA. After every loss in European regular season there is a small or big crisis in the teams. Pressure gets higher as months go by. 10.1 points per dribble means that there is a team effort for constant ball movement, the rest of the players clear the path for Vezenkov in this case and you shoot fast without losing time for dribble. Team plan is more important than personal statistics in Europe.

One reason why EU MVPs not always work in NBA is that they have to renounce to their star role to become undervalued in US. JC Navarro is a great example, his style was and would be now perfect for the NBA, but it didn’t work also because NBA lifestyle is harder to digest for an European: distance is bigger in US and is less perceived by Americans (for many American friends working at 2h car distance is a good deal, for Europeans is crisis), and personal life was the major constraint for Navarro back in the days. Easier for younger prospects to adapt to it.
