Why Suffering Gave Me Power | Scott Hamilton | TEDxNashville

Suffering is something most people fear, want to avoid and always consider a negative experience. I feel differently. In this talk I share that suffering is something that gives our lives power, meaning and direction, and also reveals who we are in the process. Scott Hamilton is a testicular cancer, and three time brain tumor survivor. He won an Olympic Gold Medal in the sport of figure skating in 1984. As a professional skater and entertainer, he founded the Stars On Ice Tour and spent 18 years touring North America. In 1999 he became an activist in cancer launching The Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative to help people better navigate the cancer journey. In 2014 CARES became a dedicated foundation raising much needed funds in support of research to advance treatment options that teach the immune system to recognize and destroy cancer. Scott lives in Nashville, TN with his wife Tracie and their four children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Why suffering gave me power. No one ever says suffering gives them power. I like that.

I have been a Scott fan since 1984, I shared a love for Scott with my mother, who left me two years ago. I met him in 1989 on one of the worst nights of my life, and he made it more bearable. Listening to this today made life, again, more bearable. He is an angel to many and hero to me. Love you, Scott!

It’s so crazy he came into a restaurant I was working at in Nashville , fast forward to now I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor and see this Ted talk. It’s kind of funny looking back I had no idea I just met someone who was fighting the same thing as me. He is so kind and it helps me to hear others stories of survivors💜

BEST TED TALK EVER. BEST ANY TALK EVER. THANK YOU GOD, FOR SPEAKING TO ME TROUGH SCOTT'S MESSAGE OF TRUTH. THANKS SCOTT, FOR YOUR LIFE, ATTITUDE AND FAITH. Your talk has been such an apt word of hope in these dark times. Your suffering brings hope to many. May my own suffering be just as valuable and helpful to others.

Jesus lived a sinless life and then He suffered greatly for our sake. That is living love.

Jesus died for us while we were still sinners and didnt know Him or care at all about Him. He chose us, died for us, forgives and accepts us. He suffered for me and I will suffer for Him! ❤ “Honor Him.”

Actually, Yeshua said we would suffer, because he did! Paul talks about suffering which leads to discipline and obedience. But it depends on how you deal with it.
