it depends on how formal u speak and how much u want to express. if u try to speak like an essay with all complete and grammatically correct sentences and rigorous logical reasoning and full detailed explanations, of course it sounds more complicated. but in real life everyone speaks in a more concise and informal way and we dont always need to explain why we make a certain choice. while u can say "can lah" in singlish when ordering a meal, we can simply say "yup" in english instead of doing a ton of nonsense compliment for the food to show we want to eat it.

Singlish is very unique with combination of Old British and America English blended with Hokkien, Cantonese and Malay accent. Singlish is consider a languages widely used by Singaporean, PR and foreign workers. Singlish should be officially register as new language unique in Asia.

it's true haha. I like Singlish but as a foreigner I find it's a bit difficult for foreigners because they mix up the english with malay and many dialects of chinese. let's say in a sentence they can use hokkien with english but in another words they will mix it with teocheow or mandarin or cantonese or even malay. the participle they use to end a sentence even uncanny for some people. maybe some neigbouring tourists from malay and indo can understand about the term of -lah and whatever but they even cannot fully understand the whole singlish.

It's ok to find Singlish confusing at first. Honestly speaking, it's not really something that can be learnt in a class or textbook. Only real life interaction and time can truly 'teach' someone Singlish.
