If I were to take a stab at trying to explain the effectiveness of Joe and his crew walking in that stylized slow motion, I would say that it very effectively establishes a major theme in the movie: professionalism. When they leave the diner and walk out into the world, they do so as a unit. And they do so using the villainous right-to-left screen action, only they do so boldly and confidently. They're unopposed. They're no longer squabbling over tips, deciphering song lyrics, or reminiscing over an address book. They're men on a mission - they're even wearing a uniform, for crying out loud. This is a team. We don't yet know what it is they're trying to accomplish, but this group of men looks very capable of achieving their aim. Then in the very next scene one of them is bleeding out and screaming LMAO

I believe that's the point, that they all wish to be professionals but in the end not a single one of them are actually what they say they are. Besides Mr. Pink, who gets killed/arrested for being a perfect criminal. Another theme of the movie: crime never pays.

Means it went wrong. Like you said; they look very capable, then we cut to one of them bleeding out and screaming bloody murder. Something went wrong...

The credits song has the recurring lyrics: "Doctor, is there nothing I can take / to relieve this bellyache?" Orange is shot in the belly, and begs to be taken to a doctor.

I know. I am glad you spotted that. Personally, I found this guy's review to be silly and way off in some areas. Reservoir Dogs is a masterpiece of independent filmmaking. Rarely does a filmmaker deliver such a work of art in his first effort.

Absolutely. The ending builds to an insanely tense climax that cuts off immediately leaving us to ponder while a haunting yet happy Harry Nilsson plays "Coconut".

the end scene is so powerful, so many lies coming out at once, the gravity of the consequences hit all of the characters

Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino film and one of my top 10 favorite films of all time. The characters, the writing, the plot, everything is just incredible. The performances are fantastic as well. There’s a rawness to this film that his other films don’t never have that I love with Reservoir Dogs. There’s a lot I can say about this film that would be me praising this film, but I want to end my comment by saying thank you for the video man. This is truly incredible.

I think Pulp, Dogs, and True Romance are his best by far (Jackie Brown is great too) and I hope his last film is a period piece taking place in LA in the 90s. Like those other classics of his. 90s crime noir LA is QT at heart.

This movie gets better everytime I watch it. I had not watched Reservoir Dogs or Pulp for four years! Reservoir Dogs is such a great first film for the 1992 new director Quentin Tarantino. It paved the way for future successful projects like well you all know all QT movies are damn good! My personal top favorite is the Hateful Eight. Though I love all his movies.

stuck in the middle with you juxtaposes the light heartedness of the song with the gruesome torture of Mr. Blonde. It shows just how twisted his character is while he twists and turns to the music so nonchalantly. I think that's why it works

About the ending. You can hear Mr. Pink after he exits with the diamonds. The cops yell to freeze and he says hes been shot. So he for sure makes it out but is most likely arrested. Very professional tho

The acting is pretty great. Harvey Keitel, Chris penn. you don’t get actors like those guys anymore

The credit song is to break you out of the insanity and let you know its a movie. I think it is perfect.

The end credit song was supposed to symbolize their trip to the islands. Joe mentions during their meeting that after the heist the will travel to the Hawaiian islands and his attitude will lighten up.

One of my favorite films of all time

I am very squeamish when it comes to gore and blood and after hearing the torture scene be hyped up by not only KZread videos reviewing this, mentioning it in passing, but even shows and film referencing the scene as unsettling and gruesome, but by the time it ended I was like "that's it?!" It was kinda like a bad rollercoaster or a shot.

Also Mr Blonde is Vincent Vega brother also. From Pulp Fiction.

I feel like the last song might be made to represent mr. Pink's character how he was there and he tried to fit in but the deeper you look into it the more you find out that he doesn't belong if might fit well considering quitting put in some color imagery in the back of the warehouse kitchen to also indicate how the pink bucket of liquid was by itself and the orange and the white buckets of liquid or with themselves

You are CRAZY!!!! The use of "Coconut" by Harry Nilsson was PERFECT to haunt the closing credits of that abrupt ending. Perfect song, bad ASS ending.

Mr.Pink was the professional but sadly he did die. After he makes off with the diamonds if you have the subtitles on they announce [sirens in the distance] about a minute after he disappears you get another subtitle [distant gunshots] I’ve watched the movie a handful of times maybe 5 or 6 after last night but that was the first time I caught that sadly I think Mr.Pink was the distant gunshots 😅😂

He survives. Yes, there are gunshots, and you can hear officers screaming “drop your weapon” or something like that but you can actually hear Mr Pink responding to them and it’s heavily implied that he gets shot but isn’t killed and is then arrested

I think mr pink died. Only because you could hear gunshots outside when he leaves with the diamonds after the 3 way stand off

Reservoir Dogs is definitely not above criticism, but I do like the ending song. They were talking about going to Hawaii afterwards... I think mr pink is in Hawaii; that’s it.

Another thing to support the theory about Mr. White, Pink, Blonde, and Orange representing the different kind of criminals is the way they all escape the crime scene. Mr. White being the old time criminal makes sure he gets out with his partner alive. Mr. Pink being the professional makes sure that he achieves his goal of stealing the diamonds, and even stashes them for later, showing that he really knows what he's doing more so than the others. Mr. Blonde takes a cop hostage after killing a bunch of people, showing that the diamonds were really just an excuse for him to commit acts of cruelty. Mr. Orange gets shot showing how inexperienced criminals can put themselves in great danger by not quite following protocol. Another thing I think is worth mentioning is that each of the main 4 have a polar opposite on the team. Mr. White is extremely empathetic, contrasted by Mr. Blonde who shows clear joy in the displeasure of others. Mr Orange is inexperienced, contrasted by Mr. Pink, who keeps his cool throughout the entire ordeal.

I love this movie!! I do think PF is better, but RD is superb!! The movie has great dialogue, great acting, and great tension that’s very nicely felt throughout it! The movie is really thrilling despite the fact that it takes place in mostly one location!

In the official screenplay there was a CUT title card at the beginning of the film that said something along the lines of, “One of these men is a cop, and at the end of the story, only one will survive”. So I THINK that Mr. Pink gets away, at least that was the feeling I got from the screenplay.

Mr. Pink gets arrested at the end. You can here the cops yelling at him and he gets out of the car after it finally stated just as the cop arrived and says to them after they yelled for him to get out “Don’t shoot! I’ve been shot goddammit!”, though I’ve never heard a gunshot fired whenever I watched that scene and listened closely. Anyway, he’s arrested and police are yelling at him in the process, asking him things like “Did you shoot a cop? Huh? DID YOU SHOOT A COP?!” Mr. Pink gets away in the sense that he’s the only one who lived, but he still went to prison for some time.

@@bigman2890 He lives, you can overhear at the end when Mr. White has the gun to Mr. Orange head/around the time that scene starts. The script has it too, iirc; he is most definitely shot and arrested, no clue what happens after.

the opening scene is Tarantino's way of crowing about the awesome cast he was able to assemble on a shoestring budget.

Everyone theorizes that Pink survives, and in "canon" goes onto be in Pulp fiction. Seems funny to me, when him showing up in The Sopranos seems more practical. He even gets out of jail in the series!

I enjoyed the video, hit a lot of awesome topics. One that I either missed or didn't hear in the video is self realization and the danger of perception. Note* Who suffered the most in this film? POINT: Mr. Orange, through out the film (arguably most of the time during the heist) was Mr. Orange (not a cop). The least self realized. Evidence: Orange allows Mr. White to kill multiple police officers (this doesn't happen in any semblance of reality). He shoots a civilian (and was acting as if he was going to shoot her more till White got a hold of him). He adopts a smug grin and walk (like a gangster) as White has his back (after White kills the cops) and they are walking towards the car scene. He likes these guys, especially White. At any time, Orange could have aided the cop during the torture scene. Instead, he let the cop get absolutely fucked up (lol). And only, when I believe he recognizes his misdeed as not being true to himself (cop) and develops a hate for Mr. Blonde, does he act responsibly in any shape or form as an officer. There is a correlation between the self realization of the people, and the level of harm/death these people take on. Mr. Pink, for example, is the most self realized of them all and walks out with his life. This offers complete dichotomy in the film in showing those who know themselves and act accordingly, are able to move forward! Beautiful film, one of my all time favs, just watched recently!

Interesting analysis. However, Orange was acting the way he was because he was undercover. That meant acting the part, as his handler had taught him to. Everything from the "commode story" to him joking around with the other members was all part of his cover. When they are in the car en route to the warehouse, one of them mentions "that cop show". Notice how, for a brief second, a look of apprehension flickers across his face. Him shooting the woman was a reflex response, and he could never have helped Marvin Nash, the cop, because he was unconscious at the time.

When my son acts up i say: "Brandon! I need you cool! Are you cool?" And he chills out. Lolz!

Idk if you were paying attention to the film, but right before the standoff at the end Joe tells them Mr. Blue got killed, hence the line “Dead as Dillinger”. So no, Mr. Blue got killed.

Its also funny he used the term dead as Dillinger ironically the guy that played joe actually played john Dillinger 47 years earlier in the 1945 film Dillinger

notice how when mr.blue walks back in with the gasoline, the singers sings pleaseeeeee, which i think fits perfectly. that has to be what the cop is thinking.

The ending scene was hilarious!!! As is lime in the coconut... that's why it's the perfect song!

People often mistake the fate of mr pink, but after reading the script it really is an unanswered mystery which Tarantino is a big fan. In the script it says Police (o.s) Freeze! Get out of the car and lie face down on the ground Mr pink: don’t shoot ! That’s it

I have to disagree with you about the end credit song. The theme of music is portrayed in the movie as the sounds of the 70’s, a radio station. While fictional, and while other songs seem to fit snd Lime in the Coconut is the only odd ball out, isn’t that most like real life? Ever listen to an oldies station and jam out to some Van Halen only to have a curveball like Lovely Tonight come on right after and kill the vibe? I feel like the end credit song only capitalized on the randomness of a real radio station.

Wild guess but I think Coconut at the end had to do with Mr. Orange's gut shot. The line "Is there nothing I can take to relieve this belly ache" makes me think that, but it's the only connection I can make.

This movie gets better every time i re watch it. Really good movie for QT’s for first time directing. We owe it all to Reservoir Dogs for kickstarting Quentin T’s career

I personally prefer this movie over pulp fiction in my opinion.

Mr Pink gets arrested after he walks out of the warehouse at the ending. When Mr Orange tells Mr White he is the cop, you can hear Mr Pink in the background trying to start a car just before the cops rush him (Mr Pink begins hurling insults at the police immediately before the police enter the warehouse for the first time)… if I remember correctly.

Final song fits perfectly imo

Mr. Pink does indeed survive. If you listen super close at the end, you can hear the police officers shouting “get out of the fucking car” and then noises that sound like Steve Buscemi being pulled out of the car and forced onto the ground. It’s pretty safe to assume that Buscemi lives. I think that he might even be able to smooth talk his way out of the situation, so I’d guess he doesn’t serve a large sentence by placing off all of the major crimes to Blonde, White, Blue, and Brown, serving maybe 12 years, though this is just my own speculation.

He killed or attempted to kill one of the cops chasing him. Unless he had dirt on the judge, I really don’t think he’d have got 12 years.

pink got caught by the police, at the end of the movie if you hear closely ypu hear an engine starting, and you hear him screaming something to the cops, I assume he got arrested

Flat out one of the best movies of all time!

I gotta be honest w you Man halfway thru this review and I’m disagreeing with everything except the fact it’s a great movie lol. When ppl get mortally wounded I’m pretty sure they’re more likely to be going into shock. I find the car scene extremely cartoonist & over the top but that’s Tarantino. Also - I think the opposite about the music. He makes these men very human, mostly likable & relatable we never know their real names. They could be our neighbor, our dentist, our grandpas, these are ppl living double lives. All of us are capable of crime we couldn’t imagine ourselves committing under certain circumstance(when the cop shoots the woman in the car), the music can be whatever you want it to be & the music he chose compliments his cartoonish humor. Just sharing my opinion & im not a movie critic so no disrespect!

"That scene is eerie" Ear-e ? cmon !

A great movie, showcasing much of the witty dialogue and stylized action that Tarantino would later be famous for. It is, nevertheless, a far from perfect movie that has somewhat aged. In the Internet connected world of today, the very idea of not being able to get in touch with someone via smartphone is just inconceivable. Nice Guy Eddie is the only one with a mobile phone; that huge thing resembling a brick. If they'd made Reservoir Dogs today, there'd be no storyline based on the aftermath of a diamond heist gone wrong. There is also a continuity error. When they're in the car on the way to the warehouse, where they'll be given their color-coded names, Eddie says "I gotta go with Pink on that one." Except how could Mr. Pink already be "Mr. Pink" if they haven't been given their aliases yet? The opening breakfast scene is interesting in the way it foreshadows how the movie will play out. Pink doesn't believe in tipping and makes a solid argument for why he thinks so. It is this logical pragmatism that sees him survive the bloody carnage of the warehouse shoot out. (I believe he is arrested by the cops.) Orange is quick to point out that it was Pink who didn't tip, suggesting that he is the undercover rat. Blonde asks Joe "Do you want me to shoot this guy?" White responds "You shoot me in a dream, you better wake up and apologize." Both men are joking around, but it is a harbinger of the animosity that later develops between them.

I think I figured out the last song, I think it’s supposed to represent Mr.orange. He’s the lime in the coconut that stirred everything up. He’s the cop pretending to be the criminal and how it messed it all up. The last song seems out of place but that’s cause Mr.orange is out of place and it plays right after his death and the movie cuts to black. It might be a stretch but I think it kinda works lol

Budget is not important, the well use of Budget is the important part.

You spent the first ten minutes of this video saying the dialogue was for worldbuilding, and then saying you weren't sure why about everything else. How is this an analysis of the movie? It's barely an analysis of anything. You literally say you 'need to do more research' at 9:59 - so why didn't you do that first. You put the effort in before make the project, you don't say you will while you show people what your plan was.

i see too many ppl saying mr pink didn’t die. it just makes sense that he dies. what’s so special about him? he wasn’t “the professional one”. he was a pussy. never stood up for anyone but himself and throws away all sense of morality to save himself. i’m not saying all the characters are the same, but he is not special enough to be saved or to have a different fate than the others. it ONLY makes sense if they all die. they crumble and that’s the most logical ending.

Mr blonde is more of a sociopath then a psychopath. Sociopaths are the people who enjoy chaos which is different to a psychopath. :)

I'll give you guys a little hint. Mr. Pink's real name was never revealed. Buscemi is actually the same Mr. Pink character in King of New York or Fargo. I was told to watch them both and figure out which one but I probably never will. Anybody else have a guess??

It's the most impressive debut since Citizen Kane. Not Kubrik nor Fellini or Bergman started like this. Eraser Head comes close but still.. RD and PF are the most impressive one two punch ever. Unfortunately It was all down hill from there.

I was looking forward to watching an analysis of my favourite movie but this is bad. For the first 2 thirds you're talking about the intro walk and the music and the only takes you have on it is that "you like it and don't know why". That's not an analysis. With the music you said it just fits without really knowing why it fits so well. Be more assertive if you're making an analysis. Don't be afraid to come off as objective, we know you're just a guy making a video. The part where you talked about the different criminal types was better but still. Be more assertive

It's an extremely overrated film. Just watched it. Tarantino is a child with a camera.

i just watched it. didnt like it, the dialog was bad and they didnt sound like real people. the story is unimportant and the characters barely get developed. 2/10
